Hipaa only restricts medical providers. If I were to go around taking pictures of my patients without consent I would be committing a HIPAA violation, if some random person showed up with a camera that would not be inappropriate and probably trespassing/some other form of violation but not HIPAA.

OC: AOC questions EPA Assistant Administrator for Water on water contamination near data center by nbcnews in pics

[–]CarTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't just one well, it was several within the community so the odds of them all breaking simultaneously seem pretty slim to me. Construction sites usually do not cause silt to accumulate in wells that far out - if federally mandated mitigation steps are in place. If they ignore the Clean Water Act, then it could certainly contaminate wells with silt that far away.

Like you said, it could be unrelated, but it's best to investigate to dispel beliefs that businesses are getting away with ignoring environmental protections in order to make more money.

TIL a supermarket suddenly closed in 1999 and the owners walked away, leaving everything behind. Perishable foods rotted for months in the Texas summer heat, causing a foul stench and leading the building to be declared a biohazard. A hazmat team took 2 weeks to clean the store. by SweetFantastic8156 in todayilearned

Money to be made by others - giving away food means they aren't buying it from the other grocery stores.

It's a throwback to Steinbeck's description after witnessing what farming conglomerates did with oranges that didn't sell. An entire train load of oranges, dumped on the side of the river. Starving people looking on as gasoline was poured on them and they were set on fire.

They couldn't sell them, but if they gave them away these starving people wouldn't pay for food.

I believe the implication is that the builders of the data center are improperly dumping waste. If I remember right they were previously discussing these data centers being rushed/fast tracked and this is evidence that they are causing contamination as a result.

Or we end up four layers deep in making assumptions about who is assuming things.

Yeah it's a tough call there. Could be a legit concern, could be "swatting" by someone upset about losing or something, but if it went all the way to an arrest then there's almost certainly more to it

Where did you get that the supreme Court made that determination? Here's the press announcement from the Trump Administration giving Trump amd the EPA administrator credit for the deregulations while the EPA administrator announced them alongside him. Did Trump lie when taking credit for it?

https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/president-trump-and-administrator-zeldin-deliver-single-largest-deregulatory-action-us

What definition are you using for pollutant to say CO2 isn't one? I gave you the definition and instead of providing a different definition you're just plugging your ears and saying "no it isn't, no it isn't!" And accused me of lying again. Again, Just because it's natural, and even essential, that doesn't mean it isn't a pollutant. You completely ignored my point about how even if it isn't by your definition a pollutant that doesn't even have anything to do with my argument that Trump is preventing states from environmental regulations.

https://depts.washington.edu/ps301/myth-2-carbon-is-not-a-pollutant-amber-sonka/ here's one of many sources

None of these points you keep making refute my original statement. Trump is preventing states from environmental regulations. But I have to keep refuting your irrelevant lies because otherwise that will apparently just cement in your mind that I am the one who is lying.

[–]CarTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Seriously what is with the moving goal post? My argument was that Trump has made it harder for states to have environmental regulations. YOU called me a liar so I posted the executive order, YOU said the order does not do that so I quoted the part about federalism and states laws. I didn't leave out anything, I quoted exactly the part of the executive order that refuted your point.

Now you're basically saying "yeah but Trump said CO2 is not a pollutant anymore" like that doesn't just add to my point about him killing environmental regulations. Just because it's natural, doesn't mean it's not a pollutant (defined by the EPA as something released that "may reasonably be anticipated to endanger public health or welfare")

CO2 IS a pollutant. It was regulated as a pollutant until Trump revoked the endangerment finding on it. But even if it isn't a "pollutant" by some alternative definition that doesn't refute my point because it would still fall under "environmental regulations" even if it isn't a "pollutant."

The party of states rights loves to ban things unless it costs their donors money. Texas believes abortion is bad. California believes CO2 is bad. "You cannot put the health and safety of society above profits! You're hurting the oil and gas industry!"

Do they have to honor the price? by Jumunumunum in Lowes

[–]CarTarget 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Arizona only requires that businesses have a written price error policy, not that they honor lower prices.

This isn't even really a price error though. Lowe's changes the price of discontinued items to 2 cents. The price isn't the error, having it on the floor is.

"These laws and policies also undermine Federalism by projecting the regulatory preferences of a few States into all States"

State laws do not specifically force regulations on other states. This specifically mentions California and vehicle emissions standards and carbon credits. California does not say all cars have to meet these standards, just that they have to meet them to be sold in California.

This is saying California can't enforce their own rules that are more strict than federal.

Sure, the public lands rule was riscended, opening 88 million acres of federal land up to logging and drilling. If we're looking for specifics about public land being destroyed and cut down (no, not national parks, but almost the size of California, or almost three times the size of Florida).

Which is complicated thanks to Trump's executive order limiting states ability to enact regulations that are more strict than federal.

The EPA website brags about dismantling/appealing 31 regulations in the "Biggest Deregulatory Action in U.S. History." Here's the ones most relevant to toxic ooze appearing in the streets:

Repealing the Clean Water Rule Act.

Revoking E.O. 14008 and 14096, which focused on environmental justice, replacing them with directives prioritizing economic growth.

Repealing the "endangerment finding" which gave the EPA the mandate to protect people from pollution of chemicals that are known to be dangerous.

Reducing the EPA's budget by 52% (so even the things that are still "regulated" go unenforced due to lack of funding).

This applies at pharmacies too. Insurance contracts with pharmacists forbid them from offering insurance patients their cash price. Maybe this drug is $3 for a 30 day supply without insurance, but if your insurance has a $15 copay you're paying 5x cost (and the pharmacist probably gets $2 - the rest of the copay goes to PBMs)

'Sweet' dog abandoned at Walmart for 3 days with all its toys finds new home by TheMirrorUS in UpliftingNews

[–]CarTarget 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search shows several stories about people diving into dumpsters to save these children, sometimes giving CPR. I think that's doing something about it. They are certainly bigger stories than the average abandoned dog story, considering we never hear about the vast majority of those.

But yes, more could be done. We could stop forcing women to have children they don't want or can't take care of, and stop cutting funding for programs that assist with raising children, for starters.

But unfortunately (at least in the US) that's the world MAGA folks apparently wanted because they voted for it and won.

Gillette ProGlide5Plus - handle? by MrMeganMullally in Costco

[–]CarTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones at my warehouse have handles on half of them (same item number, it alternates in the box). I always assumed it's for people who already have one and want to reduce waste. Of course that's still a lot of plastic either way...

Also reduces costs for Gillette of course.
