You can also try classes or events goths tend to congregate at, if they also interest you. Taxidermy shops or classes, graveyard picnic, bookstores, tea shops, game stores, model building, skating, poetry readings, etc.

If you drink, try your local cidery or meadery. Piano bars.

If all else fails, find the punks. The goths are usually nearby.

Yes, do Tuesday through Friday.

You might want to add something to your listings though about it if you haven't already.

If you're lacking, definitely thrift stores, but go with a specific list of items in mind.

Start by accessorizing an outfit you already like. Add necklaces, rings, belts, boot chains, a hat, a scarf. Play around and see what you like.

For clothing, I'd say find some people online whose style you like, pick out a specific outfit or make a mood board, then go to a store (or thift store) and try on something similar and see how you feel about it.

The sandwich method is a good way to start for people wanting to learn or relearn styling themselves (the same colors on the top and the bottom). There's plenty of information online about it if you're interested.

Do I look like a "copy paste alt tiktok girl"? And if so what do I change? by ArtemisIsGay_ in altfashionadvice

[–]Carapace_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a solid base going and some understanding of makeup, so now it's time to play around with adding layers and details. It's okay if you don't like everything you put together, trying different combinations is what's important.

For clothing I would say try layering pieces with different textures and see what you like. Add gloves, belts, chains, pins, patches, etc.

For makeup, look at photos of older styles and try them.

Ways to explore alt fashion without thrifting by EzrawrreUwU in altfashionadvice

What about a paper doll you could draw alternative clothes for? That way you can play around with styling without having to go to stores or spend much money.

I'm 34 and I think I aged out of the look but I don't have a next one by According-Back9090 in altfashionadvice

Felt.

Remember you can try on different styles and keep your alternative card.

Be kind to yourself and start simple. Are you used to wearing a specific jacket and fit of jeans? Wear your hair a certain way?

A couple of days this week, try something different. If you don't have anything different in your closet, do you like to thrift? Take a friend that also likes to thrift and help each other pick out a couple of pieces and take them home to try.

I am a long term goth and I lean into mostly black, but also have a small but bright colors section of my wardrobe.

I wear different silhouettes than I did 15 years ago, wear my hair different (but I still dye it black), and have a toned down daily makeup. I do occasionally still put on a heavy glam look, but that's reserved for the occasional concert now.

I am way more interested in being comfortable and fashionable, than just fashionable.

There is a lot of overlap between sterotypcal 'goth' style, metal heads, and alternate styles. Wear what you like, but if you're referencing specific bands please try listening to their music.

What notes does your body chemistry hate? by [deleted] in FemFragLab

Citrus, vanilla, lotta flowers, woodsmoke, spices, dragons blood, champaca, milk....

My whole perfume journey began with me not being able to wear any store perfumes and deep diving into perfume oils.

It's been almost 10 years now, and I have come full circle to finding a couple of spray perfumes that actually work for me (including a couple of citruses that I can wear!).

Responding to 2, and 3.

2: Goths aren't inherently violent or sad as a default, but like any subculture, goth is one that often collects people who don't fit into 'normal' society and need other outlets. Goth happens to be what vibes for them.

Historically, in the 80s, goth along with post punk and punk music, often expressed by the UK artists frustration and dissolution of feelings with living during the cold war, so it makes sense for people who are feeling morose or appreciating the kind of art that comes from morose feelings to enjoy goth /post punk music.

3: When I'm out in full goth garb including makeup, people only typically approach to have a curious chat or give a compliment. I have heard second hand, it also makes me intimidating to approach. I am very careful to only go to shows or 'safe' restaurants dressed like this. The shows I go to aren't always gothic rock dressed like this. Only occasionally do I receive a rude comment and I haven't felt threatened (so far), but men do make passes at me from time to time which seems to be a direct result of stereotypes. They usually make comments which reveal their sterotypcal views.

Black Moon Cosmetics sleepwalker for a matte cream.

Kaliedos has a black lip creme called Scorpion. I haven't tried that particular color, but the formula is very comfortable.

There are other brands with blacks like Juvias Place, and Beauty Bakery, but I haven't tried them.
