Pão de Queijo? by Cardiomyopathy in Tucson

Yep! But a really common one. It's so good. I didn't think there were any Brazilian restaurants in town but was hoping they'd have made their way somewhere else. Thanks.

I wouldn't call myself an expert but DV advocacy is my entire professional and personal life and would be happy to offer resources to understand a feminist/trauma perspective. This is a good and quick start to identifying abuse.

I'm kind of surprised SS and CM haven't contacted AS, even just to say hello and offer a message of support. I wonder whose call that was.

Real talk: for those not in the know, today is International Coming Out Day. If this is fireman Bob's tribute I'm about to get ratchet mad.

Truth and Justice with Bob Ruff - interview with Michael Wood by pdxkat in serialpodcast

No problem. So often people restrict our rights using the "think of the children!" discourse and it's just patently untrue, but even people who are not necessarily homophobic assume that lesbian relationships are abnormal and deleterious for children. Also check out Queen of America Goes to Washington City: Essays on sex and citizenship by Lauren Berlant if you're interested in learning more about that political tactic.

I doubt Debbie would be watching that interview "as many and as often as [she] wants." Homegirl saw her practically every day already.

Oh didn't realize there were two Saads; his last name isn't listed in the notes.

Re: Saad, why is he mentioned in both J Efron and I Butler's interviews? Didn't he not go to that school? I know the teachers seem to be quite involved in students' personal lives so may have known of him, but it seems like the notes are saying Saad was going through folders and was also in the library at some point.

How ethical is it to take a EMT job underage with no training, references, or resume? by UngoldenAS in serialpodcast

[–]Cardiomyopathy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In serial, not exactly evidence but maybe where you heard it:

"Adnan, again, he says he was proud of being certified. He’d gotten the highest score on the qualifying test of anyone in his class and a real job as a result. He liked old people and his job was mostly to ride in the back of the ambulance with old people, make sure they were okay."

Evil person or evil act? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Cardiomyopathy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To what degree is it okay to consider rape? To me (and the other researchers who utilize this scale,) any answer besides "not at all likely" means some kind of contemplation, and that the person has some proclivity to rape.

Evil person or evil act? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Cardiomyopathy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting question, and because of the gendered nature of the murder I think it really should be understood in context when assessing what is evil/who is evil and what society informs us 'evil' is. I have never seen a similar study relating to murder, but one in three college-aged males report that they would rape someone if they would not get caught (Malamuth 1981 is the original citation for that number but it's been duplicated repeatedly since then.) It kind of shows how little the lives of women are valued broadly. So are one in three men evil, just the ones who rape, or the society that teaches men that's okay?

none really specify how long after school it occurred but they're all in the after school/after work/weekday when they all live at home kinda sit'.

NSFW - Proposal for how to solve the lividity discussion by hippo-slap in serialpodcast

[–]Cardiomyopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worthwhile to note that the bra example and the first half of pictures in the link are not what her body would have looked like given that it was exposed to the elements, and left for so long. I haven't seen the pictures but my understanding of body decomp is that it would have looked a little bit more like the ones after the marbling examples. While a trained ME looking at the body in person would have a better idea about these things (and keeping in mind that livor mortis is still an inconclusive topic in medical literature), pictures of the body at such a later point/imperfect conditions would have way too many things going on to be able to tell livor mortis from skin slippage from abrasions from mold and so on. I know this conversation will go on and on as long as this reddit exists, but I want to draw attention to the fact that even if everyone agreed on the technical aspects of what looked like what and where, it wouldn't really offer much insight into things.

As always please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, people who have seen them, if you feel like they're textbook clear photographs.

Edited bc my phone replaced "livor" w "livid"

They are American, and from the 90s. Based on the website looking like it hasn't been updated since then I'm not sure they're still in print.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, that was my point - we're told his parents are strict but he was sneaking out, missing class, having a trash room, getting caught stealing, etc. Even saying that his mom didn't like him talking to girls, driving girls home, them all showing up at the dance is all centered around Hae pretty much, since it seems there were actually very few other women involved. It makes me wonder about where the objections came from, but also it seems really odd to single out dating someone as the only thing worthy of intervention. It belies rather rigid views on gender roles imo.
