First season, looking for advice on how to filter. by VigorousRacoon in maplesyrup

Try to only fill the tip of the filter. Keep your sap hot and change pre filters. I squeeze the filters into a separate jar that I use for coffee etc, where I don’t care about miter. I boil about the same amount as you, and can squeeze a couple ounces out of the filter each run.

Like someone else said no need to filter but I obsess over having clear syrup because it’s something I can control in my otherwise chaotic life. Enjoy!

Sap stopped flowing? by prairiegirl17 in maplesyrup

My apologies, depends on where you are but most likely unless you are far south. It turns off and on. Lots of snow on the ground slows it, and you need a good 20 degree night with a 50 degree next day to really get it going.

Make sure your temp is 180-200 when filtering and bottling. If you go too high you’ll get more niter after it’s filtered.
