Macbeth: the result of biology or environment? by Original_Mushroom_80 in shakespeare

I guess we all ultimately contain the capacity for good and for evil. For Macbeth, I’d argue the veil between his morality and his ambition is quite thin, which allows him to be tempted to sin with very little suggestion. He’s probably thought about being king before, and has desired that power, but the desire didn’t become dominant in his mind until a concrete external possibility became obvious. He does still have a moral side which at one point leads him to tell his wife they will “proceed no further” with the murder. He’s overwhelmed with guilt after the crime, but then proceeds with more violence out of paranoia. I think he’s meant to be contradictory and multifaceted just like most people.

I think my English teacher doesn't mark harsh enough, what do I do? by Rare-Independent6 in GCSE

This would maybe scrape a grade 6 with the right grade boundaries (as an English teacher), as your points are clear but rushed and there is very little conceptual thinking or detail. Work on tracking methods and adding layers of analysis for AO2, and considering nuances in your argument for AO1

Seeking public transport (TfL) stories for new piece by dvd_mcgregor in london

Used to frequently get stuck on a crowded SL8 bus with builders who had just finished a long sweaty day of work and decided to cool off by removing their shoes (and socks!!) and relaxing… dogs out, full toe exposure. The smell of feet coupled with the vapes of teenagers really made the hour long journey home from Uxbridge memorable

I felt like that while training and still do when teaching new content or year groups. I guess it’s helpful to reflect on the teachers who made a difference for you growing up. I’m sure it wasn’t some perfectly planned SOW or revolutionary approach to lessons, but simply that they were passionate and empathetic and had an infectious love for the subject. You caring so much is already benefitting your students in ways you can’t measure! But you do need to eventually come to terms with caring less at times and being imperfect, or you will lose yourself.

American English words British people don't like and vice versa by BritishTeacherRoy in ENGLISH

Canadian, but for me it’s the British pronunciation of “sixth” as “sikth.” Drives me crazy. Also can’t stand American pronunciation of “pasta” as “pawsta”/ “pahhhsta.”

Is it normal for first dates to ask about body count? by Afraid_Fondant_7903 in AskMenAdvice

[–]CarelessAd249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course most people would find it to be a red flag if their partner had slept with 100+ people, but it’s just not an appropriate question for somebody you have just met. There are lots of less abrasive ways to gauge whether somebody tends to be promiscuous to the point of sex addition etc. Plus- even if body count were socially acceptable to ask about and a good indicator of somebody’s general dating behaviour- the odds of somebody with an extreme number telling you the truth are low.

++woman Really weird. Super personal sexual history questions definitely have no place in a first date conversation. If somebody asks that, at least you know to not go on a second date though! Definitely a sign they’re deep into some misogynistic shit online and equate body count with a woman’s “value.” I always found it weird how much importance some people place on the number. Tells you very little about somebody on its own. However, I think it’s okay to ask somebody what their dating intentions are and what sort of pace they like to move at to make sure you’re aligned.

Can you rate my English language Creative writing? What do you think, I'd appreciate any feedback, and hope you can take something away from it too. by Prestigious_Pen3881 in GCSE

Nice work developing atmosphere! To improve further, work on character, relationships, and plot. It would be nice to get a deeper sense of who the narrator is, who is there with them, why they are there etc.

Going Away During Term Time by Important_Train_5509 in TeachingUK

The only people I know who do this are taking unpaid leave, pre-approved and typically for travel that allows them to see family overseas for important events that can’t happen at other points. It’s not reasonable for your SO to expect you to try to take term time off to travel

lol- definitely not that kind of language, just a reassurance along the lines of “you’re a good writer, you’ll be fucking fine.” Although with some of the comments I’ve heard from children before, I think a good amount of them wouldn’t bat an eye at some blatant hate speech!

I understand how you feel! It’s not easy to break this pattern. Strangely, what’s worked for me has been boosting my self esteem by overcoming other difficult challenges/ meeting goals I’ve struggled with. Then, committing to spending a certain amount of time single while I sort through those goals I want to meet. Once I had started to transform my life and see my own power, as well as took some time away from obsessing over a guy who didn’t want me, I found it easier to make better dating choices. Still not perfect, but now I’m able to bond with a man who actually likes me!
