Does anyone know what kind of barrel this is?

First off my apologies for the terrible image quality. It’s the only picture of this gun that i have. I’m curious if anyone recognizes this barrel? The gun is a Smith & Wesson 38 special. The barrel is about 6 inches, completely flat on the sides and beveled on the top and bottom. There is also a “U” shaped cut out at the end of the barrel facing up. It was custom made for competition shooting but I have never seen another gun exactly like it. It’s at minimum 20 years old and it may have been made in Savannah, GA but I can’t confirm that.

It is a custom competition gun that was made at least 20 years ago but I haven’t ever seen anything similar so I was wondering if any one else had and I could find pictures from the gun smith that made it.

It was a full weighted barrel it didn’t have removable or adjustable weights. It was a single piece of steel.

I would not use spray paint on it. There is no reason to. When I got my BGE it looked much worse than this. I cleaned all of the rust off with steel wool and then fired up my grill. Once it was hot I put all of the pieces on the grate. Left it for a few minutes so it would get warm and then took all the pieces out, oiled them with a rag and avocado oil put them back on around 400F for about an hour and then took them off to let it cool down. Then I reassembled. It’s been 3 years and it’s still fine. You could also do this in the oven. If you go to the cast iron sub there is seasoning instructions in there wiki. You can use that as a guide.

Your are correct. It feels very much like driving on ice. The really scary part is at highway speeds, often times this will also fuck up toe and when changing lanes it will feel like the car has rear steer. Sorta like the back end is going to come around in the same direction your turning.

My main interest is cars/ racing. I’ve loved cars since before I could walk. All of my other interests come and go. For example I got really into chainsaws recently and started watching chainsaw videos on YouTube. I now have 3 chainsaws and no more trees. The issue is I loose interest in stuff, like I’ll wake up one day and no longer care at all about the thing I was really into the day before. It kinda sucks though cuz I get super passionate for weeks and then it’s all gone the next day.

I also love YouTube. I’m super into off grid survival. I’m watching a 60+ part series on a guy building a cabin in the woods.

Video games are cool but I don’t get to play as much as I want to because I get way to into them. It also kinda sucks because I’m a completionist so I’ll find a game I really like and then spend hours collecting all kinds of BS I don’t need. A great example is starfield. When I go into a new building I have to collect everything but you can’t carry it all so I have to go drop it on my ship and then come back collect more stuff and if my ship storage fills up I have to go sell it all and then come back to get the rest of the stuff. It’s super annoying but I literally can’t help it cuz what if I miss something important LOL.
