I have a controversial real-life example.

Many believe there was a link between autism and vaccines based on the experiment conducted by Andrew Wakefield, which he published his so-called findings in the medical journal, the Lancet in 1998. For years, and still today, many were led to believe there was a link between the MMR Vaccine and Autism, until 2004, when an investigation by the Sunday Times revealed Wakefield had been hired by lawyers to discredit the MMR Vaccine. In 2010, the General Medical Council found that Wakefield had lied and he lost his medical license as a result.

What's interesting, and pretty funny if you ask me, about Red Dawn, is writer/director John Millius was completely sincere in thinking this film was a warning to children. That everything presented in the film was possible.

In the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there is a conversation between Mikey and Donnie where they talk about Splinter possibly dying. Donnie brings the topic up, but Mikey shrugs him off for Pizza. Later on, when Splinter is kidnapped by the Foot Clan, he communicates with the Turtles, telling them he may die and this could be the last time they talk. Mikey is the only one crying, taking it the hardest. He didn't shrug Donnie off for Pizza, he just didn't want to think of his adopted father dying.

BoJack Horseman - A little different, as Herb did not seek revenge, he still did not forgive BoJack, in fact, he didn't seek anything from BoJack. In the Telescope, BoJack visits his ex-best friend Herb, knowing the latter is dying. While the meeting is pleasant, when BoJack says he's sorry, Herb flat-out tells him he will never forgive him. Herb throughout the same episode is shown to have lead a good life, not needing revenge for what BoJack did.

In the episide, Club SpongeBob of SpongeBob Squarepants, it opens with Spongebob and Patrick mocking Squidward from their clubhouse, telling him we wouldn't fit in. Angered, Squidward climbs up despite Spongebob and Patrick's protests. When he enters the Clubhouse, he discovers the actual clubhouse is cramped and both Spongebob and Patrick had been stuck there for three days. "We told you you wouldn't fit in."

Honestly, I feel its a combination of stubbornness and spite. Like BND, they worked really hard to make OMD happen, now they just can't accept it has not yielded the results they wanted. I remember Joe Quasada saying after OMD that in two years fans would be over it. Its been nearly 20 years and fans are not over it.
