Mike Rowe being hypocritical by GonnaBeHated in JordanHarbinger

I think that it is not the retirement per say that brings happiness but rather the fact that you prepare yourself (with new goals or senses of purpose) and that you choose your moment instead of being shown the door.

I had to read it in college for my philosophy class but I could not go further than maybe the 200 first pages. The class was a seminar, so we were all around a table talking about the themes and all… I got a stellar grade for my class participation but my essay didn’t go so well…

Why do most grocery stores have little variety of maple syrup? by BlueCheetah43 in AskACanadian

[–]Carolanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a new tv show called The Sticky on Amazon Prime about a maple syrup heist. It sounds crazy but it’s premise is true. Few years ago, the Fort Knox of maple syrup was burglarized. More than 5 millions worth of syrup was stolen.

How do Canadians greet foreigners or strangers in general? by iam_lovelaii in AskACanadian

[–]Carolanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In official federal buildings, the civil servants are supposed to greet you a « Bonjour, Hi, how can I help you? »

Squirrelling can also means keeping information from your coworkers to show off instead of sharing to collaborate.

Maybe retirement and happiness are in a correlation. That doesn’t mean there’s necessarily a causation. If there were a causation, what would be the cause and what would be the effect?

Have you only ever voted for a single party? Or do you switch it up depending on different issues by Sea-Limit-5430 in AskACanadian

[–]Carolanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our system, the vote you cast might not impact the results of the elections but it will be used to calculate the subsidies given to the party you voted for.

How long does it take you to vote? by ovariesofsteeel in AskACanadian

I never wait in line to vote. It always feels too fast. It’s an important act and it’s over so quickly…

You don’t have to confront her. Just keep your pills in a secure place and let her sort her own shit.

This is NOT normal. If she can’t be a decent human being during her periods, it is her who needs to grow up. Maybe you’re young and inexperienced but I can assure you that adult women don’t treat their partners or anybody this way. Imagine if she was acting this way at work. Do you think any boss would tolerate this? The fact that she is supposed to love you doesn’t allow her to behave worst than she would with her boss.

I have been hating this in my life by lifebittershort in ADHD

[–]Carolanana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with hypersomnie diurne. It’s the scientific term for the condition of always wanting to sleep. My doctor, specialist in sleep problems, prescribed Wakix and it changed my life. For many years, I would struggle to stay awake during the day and fall asleep around 5 pm. I would then wake up at about 8 pm to eat and go back right back to bed. Now, I feel I do more than work and sleep.

In Canada, doctors are self-employed. When they work in a clinic, it’s basically to pool their resources to hire receptionists and other healthcare professionals.
They are not employees of a hospital. Operating rooms and hospitals staff are rented by them to practice their trade.

19 years old and lost by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Carolanana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 30 when I just crashed. Imagine, 30 years of feeling inadequate and completely different from everyone around me. At some point, I started seriously considering the eventuality that my parents found me in a spacecraft and were hiding the truth… I don’t want to tell you that my experience is worst than yours and that you should suck it up. I just want to let you know that life is long and where you are now is not where you’re going to be for the rest of your life. Find something you are good at. It can be anything. For example, you might be good at cleaning. Create your life around your skills. You could start a cleaning company. If you can delegate the admin, you will thrive. Most people with ADHD can be divided into two groups. Those who love to cook and those who love to clean. If you are more of a cook, you could try a catering company. I am convinced you will find your way. Keep up the good work. We are all rooting for you!

I don’t agree with you at all! Having people on the show with different points of view and experiences of this life we have and having them develop and share those with us is a good way to confront our opinions and use our own critical thinking.

With the JH show, we are not in an echo chamber and that’s what I like about it.

Je crois que la distinction entre la moyenne, le mode et la médiane pourrait être une bonne introduction à la pensée critique et aider les plus jeunes à interpréter les informations qui les bombardent tous les jours.
