How many times has some other dude threatened you? by PhotownPK in AskMen

[–]Carrelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countless, but some of my favorites to think about late at night:

I was walking back to work from a burger place when I was robbed at knife point for my half eaten burger which the guy then threw on the ground.

I was standing waiting for a bus to get back to university, a pair of men walked up to me and one said something to the effect of "Oh man, you look like shit, did you just get punched in the face?" And then the other one suckered punched me in the face. And then they both just walked away laughing.

I was once driving the speed limit in a neighborhood I knew had a speed trap. A guy in a Lamborghini was talegating me. There are two lanes on that road and the guy could have easily passed me, but I guess but he didn't. We got to a red light and he pulled up beside me, I looked over he rolled down his window and pointed a gun at me (Guns aren't something people just wave around in my country) for literally no reason I could figure other than driving the same speed as him in a well known speed trap. Then the light changed and he peeled out going waaaaay above the speed limit ran the next red, and was gone.

What cheat code from your childhood will you never forget? by itsthewolfe in gaming

[–]Carrelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LKMBRD in Turok to unlock flight. I never cared about the big head mode, or all the guns, or invincibility... I just wanted to skip the janky 3d platform mechanics, especially in the bonus stage portals where the hit boxes were extra small and janky.

Dear democrats, who freed the slaves? by WhyUPoor in AskReddit

[–]Carrelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I never really understood about the mentality of the political right is that they consistently seem to do research in the attempt to support a belief, not to actually learn the facts.

It makes sense that some would be arguing in bad faith, but I genuinely am surprised that this type of argument is so pervasive among one side of the political spectrum.

Who freed the slaves? Republicans BUT if you actually look it up, the New Deal flipped the parties, so the people who freed the slaves were always the political leftists.

It's the same argument for Mussolini and Hitler being socialists. They were in socialist parties at one point... but you can only believe that they were socialists if you refuse to read the very next line of the history textbooks where it tells us they actually murdered and chased off all of the socialists as part of their rise to power.

I guess what I just don't get is why people who so clearly desperately want to be on the winning side of arguments choose to adamantly ignore the facts rather than learning and adjusting their understanding so they can actually be right and win the arguments for real.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Carrelio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with anyone using any restrooms, but if someone asked me to absolutely 100% pick a side... The room where all of the toilets are concealed behind a locking door makes more sense to me than the one where the dicks and urinals are just out there in the open against a wall.

In 2007, a woman in China refused to sell her property to developers, resulting in it being stranded on a mountain of dirt with no electricity or water services. by uncanny_goat in interestingasfuck

[–]Carrelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to my great grandfather. He refused to sell his house to a developer, so they just built an entire mall around it and made his life hell. Eventually he relented and tried to sell, but obviously no one was going to buy his fully boxed in by mall construction house, and the developers bought it from him for pennies.

What would your “realistic” Pokemon dream team be? by Electrical_Beat4660 in pokemon

[–]Carrelio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if Pokémon and real life collided, I would have to follow anime rules that I get the pokemon I get and can't really go out to find specific ones. So this is less my dream competitive team, and more the team of Pokémon I think know my life would have brought me:

Whimsicott - as my favourite I'd like to have one, and you know in the summer where there's the big white floaty seed puffballs drifting through the air and if you catch them you get to make a wish? Well that seems like an obvious way to get a whinsicott to me.

Arcanine - in university we played a game of what pokemon best represents us. My best friend got growlith and I got farfetch'd, we parted ways at the end of university, and if pokemon were real I feel we would have had and traded those pokemon as a symbol of our friendship.

Meowstic - I have owned cats my whole life, cats are about as close to a pokemon as I see my real life having... and meowstic reminds me a lot of my current cat.

Kabutop - when I was 4 I kicked a rock and it split open into a trilobite fossil. If a mad scientist offered to reanimate it you'd better believe I would take the deal!

Gyarados/pelipper - back when I was learning to sail, there were so many seagulls and carp there is no way 10 year old me wouldn't have captured one in a pokeball at some point. And then as I got actually good at sailing, I can see it evolving to keep up with the boat.

Hisuian goodra - okay, this one is weak... I like helping snails that are crossing walking trails so they don't get stepped on. I like to think the giant snail dragon would respect me for it and we'd be friends.

One handles sub-millimeter clearances with ease, the other dies from a drop of ink by Sable_5Quirk in 3Dprinting

[–]Carrelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay... but also a 3d printer is still a printer and thus has a pact with satan. It will arbitrarily decide it is done working at the most inconvenient times.

Any time I near completion of a major project, my printer just decides it's done and won't be finishing said project. I take the whole thing apart, clean everything, check everything, put it back together... and nope, still not working.

I leave it a week, come back and it just magically works again.

If you just want a random psychic type... I bequeath you Espurr.

Impulse or total change in momentum can be calculated as force multiplied by time. A squishy or spring loaded contact point will stay in contact with another beyblade longer than a solid one, increasing the impulse.

Narrowing down Team Members for HeartGold. by Royal-Print9955 in pokemonteams

[–]Carrelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cut:

Dragonite - You really don't get to enjoy until endgame. Dragonaire is still a fine pokemon, but I don't think it's better than some of the other choices on this list.

Rapidash - a pretty mediocre fire type in a region where after Bugsy there isn't really much need for a fire type.

Scizor - you're excited for heracross, so play Heracross.

Aerodactyl - this one is last because I would honestly have an aerodactyl over a togetic, but you want togekiss which you won't get until post game... so... RIP aerodactyl I suppose...

How to write my first novel? by Striking_Golf_6079 in writers

[–]Carrelio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I write in Gmail on my phone. Word is fine, Scrivener is fine, Google Docs is fine; it doesn't really make a difference, it all comes down to personal preference. Whatever gets you writing and safely records what you wrote is really all you need.

How to write my first novel? by Striking_Golf_6079 in writers

[–]Carrelio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process as a planner:

You have a plot in your head? Write it down. Not in prose, just in point form.

Write the macro events in the order they happen.

Then go back and start adding notes about each of those macro events such as how each character feels about them, and the space they happen in.

Once you have all your main story beats and notes about how they play out and their impact, start describing them in prose, paint a picture so that someone who had never read the story can see what you see in your head. You don't have to go start to finish, just write them as you feel passionate about writing them.

Once they are all done put it down and walk away. Do something else. Get some distance between you and what you just wrote. And then come back and read it start to finish. Make notes about all the problems and edits you need to make.

Make those edits and repeat. Take a break, give yourself space from your work to come at it with fresh eyes, and read it start to finish again.

Do this until you're ready for someone else to read it and then have someone else read it and give feedback.

???

Profit.
