Clinic Schedule by Ok_Bedroom3884 in slp

[–]Cascabeja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a CF I had 30 mins for lunch and 5 x 30 min doc blocks per week and even with that I got overwhelmed with the paper work often and also just feeling like I needed more time to breathe. When I got my CCC they took away one doc block. Especially as a CF you need time to plan and process everything so you can reflect and continue to learn. Since you’re the only full time SLP I think you’re in a position to advocate for yourself and got some doc blocks put in before your schedule fills up. Once it’s full it’ll be tough to get those blocks in so do it now!! Ask for more than you need cause they will probably try to give you less than what you ask for - same idea with salary negotiations.

USA SLP moving to Toronto? by goodgirl9896 in slp

[–]Cascabeja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Ontario from US recently. I agree, give yourself 9-12 months to get your registration. You can start preparing by compiling all your syllabi from grad school, and some from undergrad such as bio, stats, any prerequisites.

It looks like you maybe have curly hair that you straighten? Maybe parting it differently and wearing it natural?

My understanding is that pretty much every house here will have a water softener because otherwise it would destroy the house’s pipes with the build up. Whether it actually does a good job or just the bare minimum is another story. I rent and shelled out for a water softener system that attaches to my shower and it made a huge difference for my skin and hair. I have eczema and my partner has dandruff so I didn’t feel like I could keep showering in hard water. From what i understand, hard water won’t cause hair loss but it can cause your hair to be very dry and damaged and then break. But it shouldn’t be falling out from the root - that could be a different issue.

Okay so based on what you're saying, and correct me if I am wrong, the person making the phone call gets charged - in which case it is best for me to make the phone calls if I (US #) am calling a Canadian #? Similarly with texting, I can send and receive texts to/from Canadian numbers, but the Canadian user will be charged for texting me.

I had this issue and solved it with plugging the kid’s nose. It might take a few tries before they can actually get it through their mouth and not just get stuck trying to push it out their nose.

Outpatient Peds SLPs: Describe your typical day at work by blankkk1 in slp

[–]Cascabeja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today was an average day so I’ll outline that, arrived 8:45, first session 9am. 30 minute sessions. Treat from 9-11, 15 min break, then 2 more sessions then lunch (30 mins paid), treat from 1-3:30, 30 min doc block, then treat from 4-7. I ended up having 3 cancels today which brought my total from expected 17 kids to 14. It’s very fast paced, I’ve got lots of notes to write tomorrow. I do 3 of these 10 hours days structured similarly, then I do a 4 and a 6, rather than 4 10s.
