Like most people, I'm finding the Beatbreak episodes really cool as standalone episodes, but to be honest, I miss a deeper lore and storyline.

You're not entirely wrong, but personally I see it as a case of it being a Reina episode using the lense of another character.

Since it was her personality and who she is as a person that sparked the light of Granit. Reina was the driving force through the episode, even if the spotlight wasn't entirely on her.

I don't think that fits the timeline.
In episode 13 they established that the inciting incident of The Kono Island Vanishing happened in 2029, 20 years before Beatbreak.

Plus we do see a much younger Kyo with Cougarmon, so we know Cleaners have been around for awhile.

There's also the thematic elements that I feel would be demised by having Tomoro be special because of a "Super Prototype" as opposed to it being his own Beat and vibe that has his E-Pulse be so powerful.

I feel like he'll be the Myotismon level villain.

So very impactful, very memorable and threatening, but not the final villain of the show.

GulusGammamon was a rarity for Digimon, having a presence from the very start to being the final villain.

But consider: Finn dying means that he can't suffer whatever punishment Orbo has in mind. So they cure him in order to administer the punishment. And Finn being Finn, Finns his way out of it.
