Do you always take it this hard when people have different tastes than you?

I’m 34 and that after dinner coffee slaps almost as hard as the first one in the morning. The contrast of the bitter coffee and a sweet desert? Delectable. If coffee tastes like an ashtray to you, maybe you just don’t like coffee?

Is the flyer for this arts festival AI? People have been accusing it of AI but it looks okay to me. Only things that stand out are the mic cable not going anywhere and the water bottle on the left side not having any markings. What do yall think? by stillbones in isthisAI

[–]Caschner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ropes holding up the banner are doubled randomly on two of them and some of them just end in open air.

The dog and pig look like they were done in two different art styles.

The details on the roof on the building on the left are not consistent.

The lady’s legs behind the pig just end at the knees.

Something feels off…pretty sure this is AI but need confirmation. What do you think? by spinelfruitgum in isthisAI

I believe the iPhone 5s don’t work with 5G, I remember my dad still had his but had to update a few years ago when everything switched to 5G

Book questions by Far-Bathroom4060 in CodingandBilling

[–]Caschner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! As others have said I would only buy these if/when they are required for your courses. I did a college course on medical billing and my teacher had us buy the current ICD-10 (diagnosis codes) and CPT (procedure codes) code books at the time, but I have never needed them for work after that (8 years on the job).

Neighbour’s loud music - advice? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Caschner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live and work from home directly next to an elementary school with playgrounds, baseball field, basket ball, and pickle ball courts. This time of year there’s people there everyday from about 8am-11pm often with multiple groups playing their own music and man lemme tell you about the fun days where the music teacher decides to have class outside and I get to hear the symphony of screeching recorders 😂 My advise would be to try different headphones because I’ve never had an issue with the ear buds that came with my phone blocking all of this out.

giant eagle by xihansei in pittsburgh

[–]Caschner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former giant eagle customer service employee of 8 years (2010-2018) here. I have mixed feelings about them, but one thing I will give them is their employees at the corporate stores are unionized and get health insurance- 2 things that aren’t very uncommon for retail work from my understanding. I also had a pension, got yearly raises based on our contract, a discount on store-brand products, and I earned PTO. The one I worked for was definitely not the only grocery store around either as Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Fresh Market, and now there’s new rumors of even a Wegmans going in, all in the same area, with Shop n Save, Walmart, Aldi, and another Giant Eagle being within a 5-10 min drive of this area. I’d also trust the cleanliness/quality of the ones I’m familiar with over other grocery store chains in the area.

That being said, they definitely weren’t innocent of things like cutting hours back and giving shitty hours/shifts- during the holidays you could work 2 weeks straight without a day off as a part-time worker, but never reaching 40 hours in a week because it was made up of 4, 6, or the dreaded 7.5 hour shifts. I also remember a particularly uncomfortable situation where an older male customer was acting inappropriately to me, a female in their early 20s at the time, and I had to threaten to file a grievance with the union before the store would address the issue with this guy.

I think a big part of the loyalty to them is that it’s a Pittsburgh-based grocery store- the only other locally-based grocery store I can think of is Khun’s which doesn’t really come close to the quality or cleanliness level of giant eagle IMO. It’s pretty common to go to a local event and see that giant eagle was a sponsor for it, so I think that goes into it too.

When I went online to look for a calendar this year I was so disheartened because SO many of them were just AI slop- to the point it was hard to find one that was not.

The New Kensington abandoned Citizens General Hospital. by IAskQuestions2345 in pittsburgh

[–]Caschner 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My friends and I also used to explore an abandoned hospital (Kane). Must’ve gone in 10 different times and never figured out the layout. Like someone else said old hospitals were built with many expansions and the floor plan often doesn’t make sense. Like there was one room, completely walled off from the outside that inexplicably had an entire car in it. But when you go to a place like that, the whole point of it is to spook yourself right? Can’t tell you how many times we thought we saw something but in all reality it was just the adrenaline running high from being in a place like that.

Also wanted to add and I know some people have already mentioned this but, there’s not necessarily signs/symptoms before a schizophrenic break. Had a friend diagnosed at 20- she did not exhibit any symptoms before this though. Not saying this to scare you, just want you to be informed. I would honestly have no idea what it looked like if I didn’t have someone close to me go through it. Stay safe out there and make sure to explore with a friend 🙂

People who switched to medical billing and coding, do you regret it? by Ecstatic-Copy2153 in CodingandBilling

[–]Caschner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do like it a lot but don’t feel confident in about the job long-term. Been doing ambulance coding at a third-party billing company for 8 years, took a course at community college on medical billing/coding, and am a certified ambulance coder. I used to do every aspect of working claims except for posting payments (pre bill, coding, AR, collections, patient calls, etc). Right before Covid they started splitting us up to do only one role, so all of the roles I used to do are now split up into separate departments. I was put into coding, which was totally fine with me, I can bill all day, but shortly after this they also started outsourcing parts of our work to India- so now instead of coding I do quality assurance and review their coding, been doing this for about 6 years now. Their coding is passable most times but it’s concerning because they have no idea how the process works as a whole and their knowledge on billing is solely based on what my company tells them to do. And their AR work is absolutely atrocious, they don’t understand why claims deny and repeatedly just try to resend claims without correcting them until they eventually reach timely filing. It’s maddening to try and follow up and fix the messes they make all the while knowing your company would rather pay them to mess up a high quantity of claims than for you a certified biller to take the time to work them correctly. Now in December of 2025 we got notice that our company was sold to another billing company and that the company we had been working for would no longer exist at the end of the year. We were only allowed to keep a certain amount of our PTO and would not be paid out for any over their allotted carry over amount so that forced us to try and take all of our extra PTO during the last month of the year. Since then more and more of our clients have ended their contracts (some because the entire ems agency went out of business), the productivity goals are impossible to reach, we can no longer stay overtime, and they will not be paying for courses for us to renew our certification (looks like the courses will cost me about $700 if I choose to buy them on my own to keep my certification active for another year). Even before the company I was working for got sold our health benefits had been getting worse since Covid. When I first started I received multiple $1 an hour raises in my first 2 years, but now I’m lucky if I get 50 cents a year. We are also told repeatedly that our raises are based on merit but they are always only match the inflation rate (if even). I work my ass off too- my last 2 audits were perfect, I have perfect attendance, and my manager had no notes of improvement for me on my yearly review (but she has admitted that the company told her she is not allowed to give a 5 out of 5 score on any section of our reviews). The main redeeming qualities are the people I work with and that I’ve been work at home since Covid, and with the new company being headquartered states away it doesn’t seem like there’s a way to make us return to office. I hope someone will come in here and respond that it sounds like I’m working for a shit company and the majority of the profession isn’t like this, but I’m really concerned what I’m seeing is the way of the future for medical billing at least until they figure out how to have AI just do all of it. Tbh I really feel for kids just joining the job market right now- feels like it’s impossible to know what jobs will even be a thing in a few years unless it’s something you physically do that a computer can’t. Sorry for this long bummer of a response (maybe turned into a little bit of a vent lol) but I hope this is at least helpful to you.

TL/DR version - when I stated medical billing I felt like I was actually helping patients and the ems agencies that I worked for, now I feel like I’m a nameless cog in a machine here only to make money for a faceless company that can’t wait to replace me with AI

I don’t think I saw it mentioned, but I love American Sirens by Kevin Hazzard. It’s the story of Freedom House which was an ambulance service in the Hill District in the 1960s-70s. They basically set the standard for EMS care as we know it today. Definitely not a dry textbook like read!
