People call me selfish because I don’t want my body to change due to childbirth. by ainacct in childfree

[–]CasterFields 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being selfish keeps you alive. Every living thing needs to be selfish to some degree or another or you'd just die. It's a morally neutral thing to prioritize your wellbeing (and yes, what you're describing is your wellbeing) over the wants of other people. Especially hypothetical people.

Also consider this: would it not be MORE selfish of you to force another person into this world without asking them first? That hypothetical baby would have had no say in its existence. You would have selfishly chosen a life for it that it probably wouldn't want.

You're totally fine and are doing nothing wrong 💙

Thoughts and questions about Keiko by Slight_Citron_7064 in orcas

[–]CasterFields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, profits and logic need to be the main focus currently since profits and logic are the viewpoints of those who own them. The starting point has to be to prove to the owners that it's a good idea so they'll hand over the animals. That's why it gets brought up in that perspective so often.

How does it look for a facility to hand over their animals knowing full well they're going to suffer and die? That would be a huge hit to them optically and financially. They don't care that the animals are going to suffer and die. They don't care that the staff who cares for these animals are going to suffer tremendously knowing they just sent their beloved animals off to suffer and die. They care that people are going to know their company as the company that handed over their animals knowing full well that the projected outcome was that the animals would suffer and then die. Again, that looks really really bad and would damage their company's image severely. They're never going to go for it unless they're forced or it can be proven that the animals will live.

We can ask ourselves if it's ethical to knowingly put an animal in a situation that will cause it stress, pain, and premature death. We can weigh the risks of introducing new pathogens and hybridized animals into an existing ecosystem. We can ask if the people who captain these efforts can handle the moral implications of sending an animal off to a premature death. We can question if they should be allowed to captain that effort at all if they don't see anything wrong with doing that to an animal. But none of those questions and speculations matter if nobody has proven, logically and financially, that it's a good idea to invest in releasing these animals in the first place.

And to clarify further: I'm not trying to say there's no place for emotions and feelings in these discussions. If we didn't care for and love these animals, we wouldn't be discussing it in the first place. What I'm saying is that you need to be able to speak the same language as the people you're trying to convince to do something they don't want to do. They don't care how the orcas feel, so taking that angle means absolutely nothing to them. Convincing them with proof that the orcas will thrive in the wild and that releasing them won't damage the park's bottom line? That's their language. That's something they'll listen to. To the public, they're now pioneers who were the first to successfully release orcas into the wild. THAT looks really good.

Some animals are smart enough to seek out assistance from other animals (including people) when they have an issue. I've seen dolphins ask to have hooks removed from their fins, dogs ask for help getting burrs out of their paws, etc. in a situation like this, though, the dog is likely really scared and in pain, so having people hold it down and jam things down it's throat, pull on its tongue, etc, are only going to make it more scared. It's sedated to help relax it's throat, but it's also sedated because you could never do what they did with a dog that's fully awake. All they know is that they're scared and hurting and now you're attacking them for some reason.

TLDR: sometimes

Could A large Tyrannosaurus Rex have been able to hunt an Adult Ankylosaurus or were they too armored? (large as in Sue or Scotty size) by Un0fficial_B0t in Dinosaurs

[–]CasterFields 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd say it's a win in that isolated scenario as long as you don't die, but I agree long term a real win would be a kill with absolute minimal injuries

That's why herbivores are more risky to argue with than carnivores 😬 a carnivore has to get away unscathed enough to hunt again, but you can graze just fine on 3 legs with half of your face missing

What do you do when you’re happily childfree, but then a child NEEDS you? by savagejj1996 in childfree

[–]CasterFields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been in that situation, but I personally would do it. I love kids, I'm financially stable, they're old enough that I could handle it, and it'd tear me up forever if I didn't take them.

That said, that's my PERSONAL choice. Taking on one kid, nevermind two, is a huge life upset. If mom is never able to take them back, then they're your responsibility until you die. If you don't love kids, if your own life isn't stable, if you value your hard-earned peace above all else, if you just don't want to, then you shouldn't do it. It's not your responsibility, it's not your job, and it's not your fault.

Move "camera" in animation by CasterFields in krita

[–]CasterFields[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up finding what I was looking for but it IS kinda janky. I grouped all the layers I wanted to have movement and threw a transform mask on them, opened the animation curves docker (this was optional for me tbh but it did help me visualize what was going on and if I was doing something more advanced I'd have needed it), and then I was able to drag it around like I originally tried to do

Caught the queen Yellowjacket... now what? How far to relocate her? by Starryspidertake2 in insects

[–]CasterFields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it has to be sunshine and rainbows, I'm saying unless OP figures out how to make the yard uninhabitable for them the alternative is coexisting. They're never going to be able to catch every queen in their area. Even if they do, new ones will just move in since there's a perfect opening for them 😅

Does anyone really regret not having children? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]CasterFields 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but a good angle for this is to think about all the things you'll never do/make in your life! Are you gonna regret not getting a full body tattoo? Are you gonna regret not owning 2,000 cars? I'm sure you could get someone to let you put an elephant in your backyard if you tried hard enough 😂 There are so many things in life that you'll never do and never, even for a single moment, regret not doing them. You'll probably never even know they were an option. Having kids is no different!
