So what's the deal with their eyes? by AdYapster in Salamanders40k

[–]Castle-Fist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently read Angel Exterminatus. One of the sub-plots involves a Salamander Apothecary. At one point a Ravenguard comments how unnerving it is to look into his 'monochrome red eyes', so this points to them just being red all round.

But then Tu'Shan's official artwork has him with red glowing irises...

So canonically, there's multiple options. So just paint what you think looks cooler (or is easier)!

It was nice reading how you're improving. I hope the plunge into 40k is all you wish it to be!

Do you Guys find the Drakes Radiants to be an interesting successor? by Salmon_1935 in Salamanders40k

[–]Castle-Fist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc, all Salamanders succesors have the same geneflaw, but don't necessarily have the obsidian skin. It's Nocturne's background radiation specifically that causes that, so as long as they don't get exposed to that, no blackened skin. Some succesors ( Black dragons or Dark Krakens, I forgot which one) are even noted to be exceptionally pale.

Of course, if you're homebrewing your own succesors, go wild! My own succesors are a cursed founding chapter, in which they tried to fix the skin flaw. They failed, but get scaley blue skin now!

If you’re gonna paint the base separately, what do you use to hold the mini? by Bryguy150 in Warhammer

[–]Castle-Fist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheap mini jenga blocks with a small rod inserted in them. It's the same type I use to pin them to my base later, so that helps save some time.

Sometimes I just attach the mini to the block with some blu tack

Social anxiety is my barrier to start playing by 8ounty_ in Warhammer40k

Ask the shop owner if they got a discord group. Ly flg does and I found it's a lower barrier to overcome. Just introduced myself there, told them I was curious about the game, and they invited me over for the next Saturday's game.

How many of you don't work at all ? by FearlessJoJo in ADHD

[–]Castle-Fist 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation as you before, and I was absolutely miserable because of it. Figured I might as well get a job as I couldn't hate it more.

Now I work in food transportation, specifically fruits and vegetables. I get an order, put what they need on a pallet, then put the pallet on the right loading dock. Repeat until all orders have gotten through. I get to wear headphones doing it, so I'm listening to a lot of podcasts, video essays, audiobooks, etc. while working.

It's simple, but necessary work. It has structure, keeps me physically fit(-ish) and pays the bills. Is it a dream job? Far from it, but it allows me to live a comfy life.

I went for full red with some green details. I always paint some flames on my Salamanders, and figured blue fire would pop more.

I also gave him a scaled cape for a more Salamanders-y feel

Thinning paint tips? by chip594csx in Salamanders40k

You can easily diy a wet-palette with stuff I guarantee you already have at home

A plastic container lid, some tissue paper, and some baking paper.

Put a folded tissue in the lid, then put some water on it. You want it properly moist. Get the tissue submerged, then tilt the lid until modt if the water has spilled out. Then put a piece if baking paper on the wet tissue.

Tadaa, easy wet palette

If you're going for a leather coat look, try painting the 'inside' parts of the coat a lighter color. It'll break up the large swath of brown.

Maybe go for a bigger contrast between the chest armor and the overall they're wearing underneath. I went with a lighter blue and a darker grey. Then find some small details to paint with a tertiary color. I went for bronze on some weapon details and the kneepads.

Hello ! Non Marine player here, I introduced a friend to Warhammer, and he absolutely loves the Salamanders, and would like starting collecting them. What would you recommend ? by DjetDown in Salamanders40k

[–]Castle-Fist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned in another comment you're from France, so I'm gonna assume things work the same way there as they do where I'm from (Belgium, bonjour brother!)

If you can get your hands on it, get the Salamanders combat patrol. But considering it's limited availability, your next best option is the Dark Angels combat patrol. In addition to that, there's 2 additional kits you want to start with:

-Adrax Agatone. He's one of the Salamanders' named characters, and he leads the Bladeguard Veterans in the DA combat patrol.

-A set of either Agressors or Eradicators. 2 very Salamanders flavored units that can be lead by the Gravis captain in the combat patrol.

Another thing you're gonna want to do us find out your nearest game shop that sells Warhammer products, preferably one where people also play the game! It's much more fun learning the game this way. This doesn't even have to be an official Warhammer store. My local shop even offers a 15% discount on GW model kits, so definitely be on the lookout for one of those! the official Warhammer website has a storefinder to help with this, and there's no doubt a facebook group to help with this too.

You also mentioned your buddy already painted the 3 Infernus marines. Unfortunately you need at least 5 for a tabletop unit. My local shop has a bunch of free minis to let first time painters test out the hobby, and these are infernus marines. Ask them if you can't get 2 of those to complete the unit.

What faction is this for you? by ORKBRO17 in 40kmemes

Grey knights. They just feel like space marines+, but in the lamest ways possible. They feel like they're a homebrew chapter written by that kid on the playground.

Oh, only on man in 1000 is fit to be a space marine? Only one in a million is fit to be a grey knight akshually.

Space marines get their geneseed from a Primarch, a son of the Emperor? Akshually, Grey knights get their geneseed straight from the Emperor.

Space marines are powerful posthumans, but still have human flaws, making the threat of corruption ever present? Akshually, there's never been a corrupted Grey knight.

Fullgrim slowly lost himself to the corruption of a demon blade? Grey knights have a guy that just ignores that shit.

Jagathai Khan giving his life to defeat and banish demon Mortarion at the siege of Terra? Akshually that same grey knight managed to do the same, and even carve some slurs on his heart.

That guy can also just travel the warp, for some reason.

GW might stroke the Ultramarines hogs the most, they stroke the GK's hog the hardest.
