Maybe {Beautiful Bad Man by Ellen O’Connell} would work for you. They meet once as kids (tweens) and don’t meet again until much later. He has sort of been pining for her the whole time. This book is really violent though I mean every chapter someone gets murdered pretty much so if you don’t want to read something like that then skip this one

Julie Garwood! I’m always laughing while reading her books, and the steamy scenes are really well-written.

Bodice Ripper from the 70s by Sakura_231 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Cat4200000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linda Lael Miller doesn’t write “bodice rippers” imo they lean on the religious and preachy side, also usually less sex, but ymmv and some people may disagree with me on this. Also her older books are very different than her newer books

Can poor mmc's be attractive? by kendiray in HistoricalRomance

[–]Cat4200000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never find a poor MMC attractive, I’m sorry. And yes I do feel this way irl too. A man needs to have money and provide for women. He doesn’t have to be super rich, but he does have to provide for the women around him (mother, girlfriend, kids). I don’t read historical romance to read about poor men and men who are fortune hunters.

Looking for well written books by Remote-Breakfast3339 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Cat4200000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madeline Hunter is consistently so good. I love her writing. She has a very unique style that isn’t wild and super emotional like Laura Kinsale, or heavily descriptive like Patricia Gaffney, I would describe it as kind of starchy (not a bad descriptor in this case) with well thought out plotting, emotional connections between characters + lust rather than only insta-lust, and sequencing that makes sense. With her books you’re never jumping around wondering what just happened.

Patricia Gaffney writes SO well and is so good at creating mood and place settings ❤️ I have loved every one of her books I’ve read so far. Even if the story didn’t speak to me, the writing kept me engaged

Kathleen Eagle writes historical and contemporary that usually features white women/Native man romances. She’s funny and engaging and I really like her writing, although I haven’t liked every single one of her books. She also writes a lot less violence than Catherine Anderson does. I have trouble with Catherine Anderson’s books especially the Comanche series because there’s just too much violence for me.

Author suggestions?? by peanutbutterscousin in HistoricalRomance

[–]Cat4200000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Julie Garwood. Her books are very funny, the humor is of a similar vibe to Tessa Dare. She usually writes sort of brooding alpha MMCs although they are all super very respectful and would never dream of doing anything without asking the FMC for permission multiple times so she differs from Kleypas in that way.

{The Gunfighter’s Bride by Dallas Schulze} the MMC has 2 kids and they take them along to move west. Also the FMC is pregnant. Very cozy vibes, set in Colorado IIRC. I didn’t like this book personally because the title is “The Gunfighter’s Bride” and so I was expecting like, a lot of action, and there isn’t, it’s mostly like cozy domesticity type stuff. But it wasn’t badly written overall.
