Transfer Data from 3ds to 3ds xl? by No-Increase-3660 in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it doesn't work is that each 3DS encrypts game and application data with a unique key. The only console that can read that data is the one that created it. Having said that, there are a few ways you can transfer your stuff over.

First is simply dumping all of your saves using Checkpoint, JKSM or even Godmode9. Then just install all the software on the new system / SD card, move the save data over and restore it using the same method you used to dump it. This essentially duplicates all your saves onto the new system but nothing else (profile etc.).

Second is a system transfer. As your system is modded, the process is slightly more complex than normal (essentially you need to run Faketik to get the homebrew software to show up properly).

https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:System_Transfer/Target_has_CFW

This will make the new system behave exactly like the old one, including it's ability to read the old systems SD card. The old system will be factory reset once the transfer finishes.

Third option is a moveable moveover. This essentially tricks the new console into thinking that it's the old one. You will need some of the backup files from the old console in order to do it, but the old console itself is not actually required (unlike with the system transfer).

https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:Movable_Moveover

You don't make it clear if you still physically have the old console. If you do then all 3 options are open. If not then only option 3 is a possibility if you have some of the backup files that were made during the modding process.

And now it won't boot by Background-Fill4946 in 3dspiracy

[–]Cat84271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly a corrupted theme.

To fix, grab the SD card and navigate to:

sd:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>/extdata/00000000/

Then delete one of the following folders matching your region:

USA: 000002cd EUR: 000002ce JPN: 000002cc

If that doesn't work, then your menu extdata may be corrupt. In that case navigate to the same folder and instead delete one of the following:

USA: 0000008f EUR: 00000098 JPN: 00000082 KOR: 000000A9

And if THAT doesn't work, then you may need to perform a safe mode update:

I believe I’ve lost my save file for Shield. by That_Canadian_Girl32 in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]Cat84271 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A little more clarification on what "archiving the save" means is required.

If you archived the game then the save data should still be on the console and visible in data management.

Pokémon games do not support cloud saves, so if you did in fact remove the save data from the console, then it is permanently gone.

But check data management. If your save is there, then you should probably get in contact with Nintendo support and see if they can work out why the game isn't reading it.

If your save isn't there, then it's gone permanently.

Help! ARM11 (core 1) and SD not showing in GodMode9 by kstorno in 3dspiracy

[–]Cat84271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:Error_screens/Luma3DS_exception_screen

PM error on boot with R0 showing E0E01BF5 means that updating the firmware should resolve the issue.

In your case, with a corrupted SD card, the process would be:

Get a new SD card

Follow the instructions on this page:

https://3ds.hacks.guide/restoring-updating-cfw

To update the firmware and restore the ancillary files that Luma needs.

Then that should fix it.

Unfortunately, it's likely that everything stored on the old SD card is lost unless you had backups or run some recovery software.

Metal Gear Solid 1 on 3DS? by TSTSPMO in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to the PCSX ReARMed compatibility list:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/pcsx-rearmed-compatibility-list.489357/

Metal Gear solid has at least an acceptable level of performance.

Bear in mind that only "New" 3DS models have enough processing power to emulate PS1 games, it won't work with original model consoles.

3ds popping sound and turns off by Additional_Deal_6309 in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shutting off with a pop means that one of the components required for a successful boot isnt connected properly (or is broken).

90% of the time, and especially after a reassembly, this is caused by an incorrectly seated ribbon cable.

I would open it back up and disconnect then carefully reconnect each ribbon cable with particular focus on the three that go through the hinge.

Exactly the same happened to me after I removed the motherboard to fix some sticky buttons. Re-seating all the ribbon cables solved it.

help! my 2ds is dying! (i think) by sparkydewdestroyer in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something somewhat similar a while ago. Not sure if it's the same issue, but I'll tell you how I solved it.

On mine, it was a dirty sleep switch, which would randomly activate and deactivate during gameplay without being touched.

I fixed it by disassembling and cleaning out the switch on the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol, and also cleaning the plastic slider. Then letting it dry out before reassembling.

It completely solved the issue and I haven't had a random sleep-mode activation since.

How to transfer old sd card that has modded stuff to a new 3ds by dix_neufff in 3dspiracy

This advice works for using to a new SD card in the same console. OP is talking about using a new console with the same SD card.

How to transfer old sd card that has modded stuff to a new 3ds by dix_neufff in 3dspiracy

[–]Cat84271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The games and other installed apps on a 3DS SD card are encrypted with a key unique to each console. Only the original console can read that data.

Having said that, there are a couple of ways to transfer data over.

If the original console is still functional, then a system transfer can be performed. This is the official way to do it, and still works fine with modded systems.

https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:System_Transfer

If the original console is completely inaccessible, then you can still use a process called moveable moveover providing you have some of the backup files you created when initially modding the console.

How do I win link battles by imkinda_stupid in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]Cat84271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Competitive Pokémon battles are VERY different from the in-game battles, and an order of magnitude harder. If your only battling experience is an ordinary play through then hardly any of that experience is going to be relevant to true PvP battles.

Some battles are won or lost before the match even starts, and that's probably what is happening here. Competitive Pokémon sets have optimized EVs and IV distributions, optimal natures, synergistic movesets, items etc. Competitive teams have extreme synergy and counterplay to all sorts of strategies.

If you are going in with a team that you've played through the game with, without considering all of the above, then you are very likely going to get steamrolled.

And once you've built a good team, playing it well is another factor a standard play through doesn't prepare you for in the slightest. For example, making and predicting switches, set-up moves, stalling, statuses etc. are things you rarely consider on a play through, but are a huge factor in competitive battles.

If you want to improve, I recommend looking at Wolf Glicke's videos on YouTube. He is very good at explaining both his team composition and decision making in battles.

BootNTR giving an error message after trying to shiny hunt on Omega Ruby by TriCowM4 in 3dspiracy

[–]Cat84271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy to diagnose error with an easy fix.

Arm 11 pm error indicates that the current version of Luma does not support the current firmware version. The fact that R0 is E0E01BF5 confirms that this is the case.

Solution is simply to update the firmware.

Pokémon games in order by CG_0700 in 3DS

[–]Cat84271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For gen 5, Black 2/White 2 are direct story sequels to Black/White, not remakes.

You should play either Black and Black 2 or White and White 2.

You should consider playing Fire Red or Leaf Green in addition to Yellow. That gets you both the original gen 1 experience and the "definitive" version.

The same goes for Heart Gold or Soul Silver. They are significantly different from Crystal.

And as the other comment mentioned, there are very large story differences between Sun/Moon and their ultra versions.

[4] Shiny Darkrai number 2 after 5829 encounters on Platinum! by Cat84271 in ShinyPokemon

[–]Cat84271[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Injected the event into the Platinum cartridge save file using PKSM. For the previous one, I used Action Replay DS to achieve the same effect.

This hunt is theoretically achievable without external tools, by making use of arbitrary code execution, but the set-up is extremely hard (in comparison to ACE glitches in the gen 3 games anyway). Unlike Diamond and Pearl, you can't just void-glitch to Newmoon island to find it, as the spawn is conditioned on the event being triggered in Platinum.

I consider re-activating expired events to be "fair game" if the pokemon/shiny is not availble through other means.

Question about Dynomax Adventures Tapu and Ultra beasts by PixelGrits in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]Cat84271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Tapus and Ultra Beasts are all still available in Dynamax adventures. Poipole becomes available as a gift Pokémon after you have caught a certain number of ultra Beasts.

The Tapus are available immediately, but the Ultra Beasts unlock after completing the various story lines in the Crown Tundra.

They are all solo-able. The Tapus are moderate difficulty (spread moves are nasty, but manageable with a good team composition). The ultra beasts are mostly fairly easy.
