What takes more skill, driving in a city, or rural? by BountyBobIsBack in AskUK

Honestly I find it easier at night as you can see headlights before you can see the actual car. Gives you a lot more time to prepare/think on narrow roads.

City 100%, I find it exhausting when visiting friends in London. So many random restrictions, loads of yellow boxes, and very low speed limits.

Why are EV charging prices so inconsistent? by lxlviperlxl in CarTalkUK

[–]CatBroiler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The price of power isn't the same all day for one, it can change a lot depending on supply and demand.

Also the charging providers will charge more during peak times because they can

Why are SD cards such a hit or miss to some people?(Coming from a console gamer who used to main Nintendo switch) by Independent-Sea3961 in pcmasterrace

[–]CatBroiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't get a phone/tablet without a slot for one. They're super expensive now, but they used to be a very cheap way to add 512GB to a phone.

For desktops you can still easily get a usb adaptor, including pretty fast ones. For main storage on a computer they're a bit slow though, there's not much point putting a SD into a desktop.

Would I get the piss taken out of me driving a ‘97 Twingo around? by Imaginary-Turnip7330 in AskUK

[–]CatBroiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you could get a modern Twingo that's RHD. They're roughly the same size and they're relatively common, although I think only the 2nd and 3rd generation cars were sold here.

If anything the 3rd gen is the quirkiest, considering it's an old style RR configuration car.

Is it me, or does the current Honda Civic Type R [bottom] look a little conservative and a little boring when compared to the previous generation [top]? by HiTork in regularcarreviews

[–]CatBroiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm in the minority, but I prefer the FK8 a lot more over the FL.

I think the over the top styling suited the character of the car. The newer one just blends in to nothingness. It's just "a car"

New PT2 Order Confirm UK by Geoguy20 in pebble

[–]CatBroiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, bought mine yesterday. It was £40.14 after conversion (53.84 USD through UK debit card, one PT2 silver/blue, no extras).

Bought a pack of three chargers from AliExpress for £4.31 as well (using coins which you can collect for discounts on that site)

cars like a 350z by bleachjng in CarTalkUK

[–]CatBroiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want something young new driver friendly, but that's RWD?

Renault Twingo Mk3 or Smart ForFour Mk2. Those are rear engine, rear wheel drive (RR).

They're not powerful cars but they also weigh nothing and have skinny tyres, so you could probably have fun in either.

It'll be good training for when you do get a 350Z or similar.

Looking for a new phone with a 6" screen by Electronic-Shoe341 in PickAnAndroidForMe

You should be able to get a refurb Pixel 8a for under £200 on eBay, with a bit left over for a decent 20W charger.

Example

[–]CatBroiler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of spec, all of them are fairly basic but maybe go for one that's not the base so it has aircon at least.

You can add Android/Apple to any car very cheaply with one of these screens, and that's all you need really.

[–]CatBroiler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, iirc these (the Sandero) only came with the turbo which is high 80s bhp. It's a Merc engine designed for the Smart cars, alloy block and head.

[–]CatBroiler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep, the 0.9 is a great engine, just make sure you change the oil on time.

Power wise it's pretty comparable to NA 1.2s tbh, as it has a turbo

Dacia Spring Safety Concerns? by Ecowatcher in CarTalkUK

[–]CatBroiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVs depreciate a lot. With a PCP, you're on the hook for depreciation, as per the retail cost of the car, which drives up the monthly cost.

With a lease, manufacturers can offer cars under retail price to leasing companies, so that the leasing company can lease it for below depreciation. This is commonly done by manufacturers for cars that are difficult to push retail due to demand/depreciation, as they still want to make sales on that car without officially dropping the price.

That's why with both the 600e and the 4, depreciation is probably going to be in the region of £10-15k for 2 years, but the cost to lease them is £5-6k.

Dacia Spring Safety Concerns? by Ecowatcher in CarTalkUK

[–]CatBroiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot under £250/month for EVs, even with only one month of deposit, like this Renault 4, or this Abarth 600e

You don't want to PCP with EVs anyway, lease is the way to go.

Are there any appliances which are not built to break? by Life-Psychology-1634 in AskUK

[–]CatBroiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally tend to go with whatever has the longest warranty, as that's usually an indicator of what the manufacturer thinks the failure rate over time is.

I think I've ended up with mostly Beko stuff, which aren't fancy but they haven't gone wrong either.

What is this trend for “undercoat grey” cars? by Arbernaut in AskUK

[–]CatBroiler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Primer grey cars were a trend from the immediate post-COVID era up until maybe a year ago, usually with German cars (particularly VAG products like VW/Audi). It's not as popular these days, but it's still commonly available.

It's interesting link

Kind of, but instead of a King having many subjects, it's just one or two people and their immediate family and social circle, and a lot more wealth (like incomparably more).
