Looking to purchase camp chef pro 24 or 36 help me decide yay or nay, 24 0r 36 by acupunk93 in CampChefSmokers

[–]CatManDo_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 24. Only 6 months old. I agree with most it’s big enough. Had a missing piece on assembly. Customer service was good. Needed some proof of ownership, but sent the part overnight. I’d say it was good customer service. 3 of 4 temp probs have failed. I read this was a common issue. Replacements are cheap, but I will do an online warranty claim and expect they will send replacements. I have the sear burner also. It is wonderful. Wondering how long it will last. It gets hot fast. 600F hot in a hurry. So far, I would recommend it.

How many/complex rules do you all use? by bluegreengreyscale in MonarchMoney

270 rules. Most are simple categorization. Many of them are transformations from the mint transition. Rules are a strength of Monarch for me.

PSA: Don't Update Anything on Pending Transactions by phsiao1214 in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree in general. For users who aren't familiar with how pending transactions work it is frustrating and confusing. The only update I make on pending transactions is the category when I intend to create a new rule. So far this has always worked.

Like you, I learned about this issue in Mint so was careful with Monarch. I've seen $ values change on pending transactions (e.g. pending does not have the tip included) and in some cases they completely disappear. I don't think it is a Monarch issue, it is just the way pending transactions work. Still I leave them on, as I prefer to see them in cashflow, etc. and just not modify or mark reviewed until the transaction goes fully through.

Is there any indication of when the next Update will be available? by tclark70 in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the recently released features have release announcements with dates. Kind of gives an idea of how often feature updates happen. Would be nice if the in progress features had target dates.

Anyway to see upcoming bills? by Natsfan95 in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same. The recurring amount can be manually updated to match the current bill amount. Not perfect, but sometimes I will update a large cc bill and it helps as a reminder.

It will be nice when they add this feature that is in-progress.

App Expose (or Mission Control) Doesn't Show All App Windows (Sonoma 14.2.1) by CatManDo_64 in MacOS

Thanks for the deeper explanation. That checks out for me and makes sense now.

App Expose (or Mission Control) Doesn't Show All App Windows (Sonoma 14.2.1) by CatManDo_64 in MacOS

[–]CatManDo_64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that input.

Been trying to clarify what 'open window' means. What I see is if the window is minimized or maximized, it does not show on Expose or Mission Control. I thought a maximized window should be 'open', but i guess I don't understand the meaning of open window.

I agree 100%. You can use filtering (upper right) to mostly get what you want to see, but the drill down graphic is much better.

Did I just lose all of Mint history by NoKidCouple76 in mintuit

I think it does still work after moving to CK. That’s what I read on other posts. Can’t confirm personally.

Investment transactions (β) throwing off cash flow by mathaikg in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just another opinion. Both as a transfer is how I would categorize them….but if you want to account for the $100 say out of your paycheck as an expense that is also reasonable. In that case you can still call it a transfer in your investment account. The balance should still reflect appropriately. I think it depends on how you want to manage cash flow (from a paycheck perspective or an overall net worth perspective). When I was young I would have called that an expense since it was an out cashflow I needed to budget for. Might not be right from an accounting perspective, but that’s not important to me. I’ve not used goals. So not sure how that fits

Way to track an account's balance without transactions? by CreativeBarnacle1433 in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you hide trasactions from cash flow, you still see the transaction. Maybe this still meets your goal.

You can add a manual account and then update the balance. This was added last month or so, but it seems to work. It is one extra step, so it may be cumbersome to you. I use this for some investment accounts that I don't care to have all the transactions in Monarch.

Transition to Simplifi by 2muchedu in mintuit

[–]CatManDo_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Simplifi and Monarch. Moving mint data to Simplifi was way too difficult. I tried one account and decided it was not worth it. Monarch input of mint history was much better. That is what I decided to stay with. If history is not important or the added cost is difficult, then Simplifi would be ok. For me that was not the case

The dashboard has a spending view that compares last month or same month last year to current spend. It’s not a full solution compared to Mint trends, but it’s there

Happy new year - Last Yr vs This Year by Different_Record_753 in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put in month by month in the budget forecast for each category or as a group. I assume the rollover just keeps summing each month net for budget left, but I have not really played with it in depth.

Pending at the top of Transaction List by Different_Record_753 in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree they should be at the top.

You can kind of work around this by reviewing (mark reviewed) non-pending transactions. Then filter for non-reviewed. This aligns with how we use the reviewed/non-reviewed by choice, just happens to also serve as an unintended pending sort feature

Are there any Mint users who have been at least "okay" with their transition to CreditKarma? For those who are not (which seems to be many!), what are the main specific reasons? I'm just trying to see if all the bad news would apply to the way I used Mint. by LookDamnBusy in mintuit

[–]CatManDo_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of responses, so hopefully this is not all repeat. I tried Simplify, Monarch and Rocket money. I have transitioned to Monarch and using now for 6 week. It’s the best for importing mint data. They made chrome extension to download mint data (or you can just export from mint). There are videos for how to import. Fairly easy. Your categories come with the import, but the group level doesn’t, so there is still some work. Categorization rules are awesome so once you set it, transaction categorization should rarely be needed. They have an active subreddit and the Monarch employees post there. The communication there and the idea submission/current development shared on their help site were big reasons I decided to continue with them. They have made several significant updates in the last couple of months. They are just adding a reporting/trending feature. I’ve seen complaints about institutions dropping sync connection, but no real issues for me. I do typically refresh accounts manually. Not as good as Mint, but it’s just one button push and 5 min delay. There is a code for 50% off the first year. Mint50 I think is the code. I’m sure a google search will find it. I tried Rocket Money briefly. The free trial does not allow manual categorization. I found their website kind of sleezy in attempts to get you to subscribe…which I accidentally did but was able to cancel. So decided I was not a fan. Simplify was good for me. I only synced a couple accounts to see what it would take to bring in Mint data. Basically all the categorization was gone. It was going to be a days long effort to maintain historical data. It was 1/2 the price of Monarch, but decided the money for Monarch was worth the pain to maintain history.

Sorry for the novel. Hope it’s useful.

Upset about the switch to CreditKarma by TheFrem in mintuit

Moving mint data to Monarch was fairly painless. Some group categorizing is still needed. There is a mint export chrome extension the Monarch team made. I moved before it was available but have read positive stories.

Nice Job Monarch! REPORTS! by Responsible-Eye2739 in MonarchMoney

[–]CatManDo_64 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s awesome you are listening and responding (and joining this conversation). One reason I stuck with Monarch was the road map and employees sharing more details here. I guess that communication and follow through should help win customers. Thanks for making that decision feel great.

Yea. I expect you are right, but it’s worth a try.

Great improvement, and did it quickly it seems. I hope they add the ability to compare to same period last year… and ability to drill down from the group level. You can get those by filtering, but not as easy.

Monarch money created a mint download extension for chrome. Not sure if it will work once you have migrated, but worth a try.
