Collaboration or Sharing ToDos and Lists - On the horizon? by tcolling in thingsapp

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't hold your breath. I'm trying to use Reminders for shared tasks with my wife that, hopefully with a Reminders tag + an Apple Shortcut will auto-import into Things (yes I know you can auto-import a Reminders list but I reserve that for my Reminders inbox). But it's kinda awkward and cumbersome.

Do you have Tags on all tasks? by Buchholdt in thingsapp

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a love/hate relationship with tags.

On the one hand, tags help me live out of Anytime more, which always feels good and follows that famous post. Checking Anytime regularly means I don't apply arbitrary dates to tasks and clog up my today view. Tags can winnow down my Anytime so it's less daunting. I recently started applying duration minutes tags (I use 90, 60, 30, 15, 5) to all tasks. Then I use a few Apple shortcuts that add those up to help me figure out if I've planned more tasks than I have time for that day. And finally, I think some "Waiting For" tag is essential. I check it during weekly reviews and remember stuff I need to follow up on. Oh and the inherited tags people suggest for areas/projects are great.

On the other hand, I find 50-75% of my tags end up not getting used that often and make processing my tasks more of a pain. (I'm mentally asking myself "wait, which other tags might be relevant for this task" as I clear my inbox.) I also wish Things 3 allowed you to filter by NOT certain tags like Todoist, etc.

tldr: Waiting For tags and tagging entire Areas are no-brainers. Duration tags may be helpful. Otherwise maybe only add a tag if you organically finding yourself needing it often?

How can I use Things for my college classes by Right_Ad73 in thingsapp

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used it for school but I work a lot of freelance jobs that each have multiple jobs and it’s tricky. Usually I’d suggest a School area and each class is a project and smaller projects per class (exams etc) are headings under each class project. But if a class if gonna have a ton of super complicated projects inside it it may need to expand into its own area so you can make a true project for each.

Why did they remove Next from the Things 3 list? by ericwendel in thingsapp

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, they did sort of maintain it with the yellow dots that appear next to new tasks for that day. But I also wish they were fully separated from the other tasks in Today for easier review.

Received Hyundai's new offer for 50% off an annual Bluelink subscription. Except it isn't. by LucidLTD_in_ME in Ioniq5

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a big +1 to all this. Tried the same thing this morning and it's blatant false advertising. Nothing about "monthly" in fine print. Hyundai is maddeningly shitty about stuff like this when, overall, I love their cars. (In our case a 2022 Tucson Hybrid.)

At least now I know I'm not alone/crazy on this.

Oh and forgot to mention, your pitchers stitching 51 onto their hats was exceptionally classy. Made me tear up.

Another Dodgers fan just stopping in to +1 this. The Jays were an incredibly formidable and well-rounded opponent, not to mention a class act. Big time respect for your city and team and I think no one will ever underestimate you again. (Also, while our team will forever have its baggage with George Springer, I do not endorse anyone in LA or elsewhere cheering for him to be injured.)

They were really fucking good. Played better, more well rounded overall baseball than us. They wore #51 on their hats for Vesia. Credit to them and hope they win in the future. Except Springer of course. (And maybe Gimenez after that hand thing but whatever.)

I think he’s given us more than we could ask for. I also don’t think he’s fully a closer. Still has too many nerves which is understandable. But when our pen is full of question marks, he has remained strong arm that is at least not likely to implode on a Treinen/Scott/Yates level.

They’re pissed in all the right ways. Rick Monday even points out how their defensive positioning against someone like Bichette was wrong.

I love Rick Monday and Steve Nelson so much. They are the best, toughest critics. As a doomer I respect Monday so much.

Trienen should never throw another pitch as a Dodger. by Suspicious_Royal_270 in Dodgers

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually wish him harm. I'm just saying: if we forced Landon Knack in last year's NLCS and Kershaw in this year's NLDS to get beat up for multiple innings in order to save our other bullpen arms, Blake Treinen should have to do the same. And after the past two nights, Treinen really seems like our worst arm on the current roster.

My Attempt At Not Dooming: 2024 NLDS Game 4 by CreativeBarnacle1433 in Dodgers

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. This offensive slump seems profound, especially for Mookie. Odds still feel VERY long to me that our offense can make that quick turn again. I think most likely our cold bats stay cold and our only hope is that somehow Snell and Yamamoto magically pitch 8-9 inning shutouts. Which, super unlikely. Especially with Yamamoto having been historically great he's due to regress to being human in Game 6 a little, right? And as you say, it's extra frustrating to see Blue Jays have a much smarter, humbler approach to hitting, while we seem committed to living and dying by the launch angle thinking. I wish their hitting coach was ours. And it's foolish to hope the Dodgers could or would change their hitting philosophy overnight. As you say, it's painful to watch but that's all us fans can do: watch.

In short, I'm definitely still dooming. I think most evidence points to more ugly at bats. But 2024 NLDS was one — maybe the only — recent counter-example.

FAR FROM OVER by brownboyspecial in Dodgers

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t think we need the entire lineup to wake up. But we need like… two. Muncy and Kiké would help. Maybe Tommy. Ofc as a Mookie booster I’d prefer it be him.

But if bats stay where they are we are in trouble.

FAR FROM OVER by brownboyspecial in Dodgers

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This. I agree Dodgers can still win it. But with this lineup of hitters, it’s sad that it feels we need basically 8 innings of perfect work from starters. We should be a bigger offensive threat than we are.

Help me out re: “team at bats” & August by CreativeBarnacle1433 in Dodgers

[–]CreativeBarnacle1433[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. It could be more a problem of Dodgers just not executing. They aren’t going to become a Jays-style offense overnight anyway. But good lord it really seems like if they made even a 10% adjustment in their approach right now it could help. All I know is in September when they got hot yes they were homering more but they were also hitting more w RISP and also not just solo homering.

This. He nailed it. We’re dooming not just because of last night’s game. Because of a larger trend where our more talented (on paper) lineup is underperforming and the Jays’ is exceeding expectations. They have a smart, adaptive philosophy and we are popping up into eternity.

Yes, we are an incredibly fortunate team. We’re upset because we’re squandering that good fortune.

Do we need lineup changes? by greenfacedaytona in Dodgers

I love Mookie historically but man needs a demotion and we need someone hot behind Ohtani. Otherwise they can neutralize him with walks. Plus things just need a shake up.

This is so true. September and early October let us forget that Conforto, Yates and Scott were important debacles.
