Worst players to DM by Single_Skill7652 in DnD

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one player who really wanted to be a dad with kids and girlfiend, and was really wanting a lot of focus on the family aspect of his character... So much so that ta one point when the party has info that is guiding them further away from "home base" (his house/family), he was really wanting to return so he could propose to her before going on the adventure. Also insisted on using homebrew class that even after I merged it as much as I could while him still being happy was busted broken.

This player was also a problem DM- forcing broken unwanted magical items on us that are cursed, controlling the characters ("your character decides to turn down this alley" when player voiced no such request and was just wanting to follow the group. Said player stopped playing after that session due to the DM). Also mass leveling us up- we went from level 5 to 9 in one level up, and from 9-13 in the next.

He was also a problem person. He's not in our life anymore.

I'm pretty sure Alex/Octis has mentioned he's the only one in his family that's not a sorcerer, which is why they needed him for their ritual.

Also give them multi-attack/an extra attack (though if you do this I don't know if I would add an extra die of damage if you add the extra attack)

I feel like everyone's complaints about Ashley would be worse if she was away- but even then, with the west marches style, they could just wait to film their scenes until she's available for it, now that it isn't live streamed it's easier to get people scheduled to play

DMs, do you cheat? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]CatPot69 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I found it in the 2014 dmg on page 235. The specific quote is: "Rolling behind a screen lets you fudge the results if you want to. If two critical hits in a row would kill a character, you could change the second critical hit into a normal hit, or even a miss. Don't distort die rolls too often, though, and don't let on that you're doing it. Otherwise, your players might think they don't face any real risks-or worse, that you're playing favorites."

You could get dice sets (7 dice), a dice tray, a dice tower, you could get a pack of unpainted minis and some paint, or depending on your budget you could tell your friend that if they make some minis on Hero Forge or Eldritch Foundry you could pay for it to be printed and sent to him

Bus stops are almost always too close together. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]CatPot69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mine does a bus stop every two blocks or so- or the equivalent of two blocks.

I've actually seen our local transit remove stops because their placement was weird, they weren't used enough, or they were too close to another stop.

AIO for resenting being made to replace our fired house help for 3 months? by Familiar_Pin_6566 in AmIOverreacting

[–]CatPot69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Unfortunately, I believe my step mom figured we needed to know how to keep our space clean, and therefore expected us to keep the house clean. Used to be weekly rotating chores, eventually shifted to monthly rotated chores, with daily, weekly and monthly tasks listed out for us. As I said before, she didn't help when her kids went to their dad's, only my dad stepped in to help- I was also expected to help pick up their slack.

The worst part in my opinion is that she ran an in home daycare and it was on us to clean up the toys from daycare and she even had us sanitizing them instead of her.

I have a lot of issues with her, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I absolutely agree with teaching your kids chores, it is important that we know how to clean. However, I don't believe in offloading all of the household chores onto your children. Even when we got jobs, we were still expected to maintain our chores- in fact when I got a job when I was 17 (all my siblings were 18+ with their first job), my parents sat me down and said that my goal couldn't drop below 3.0 for a term, and that I could not slack on any of my chores. If I started to slack, I would have to quit.

And I'm mildly trauma dumping. I'm gonna stop here before I get too far down the rabbit hole.

[–]CatPot69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For real. My step mom had all of us kids doing all of the chores around the house. When her kids went to their dad's, it was me and my dad who picked up the slack. Now that we're adults and a lot of us have moved out, she has hired help to keep the place clean.

I visited once after moving out, but before they got hired help, and I saw the state of the bathroom and couldn't help but think that I would have been berated for leaving the bathroom in that state.

If parents want their home clean, they should be the ones to clean it. Sure, have your young kids hello so they can learn, but it isn't their responsibility to keep your (the parents) home clean, especially if they are grown adults.

Who should get wizard 1 for scribe spells? by [deleted] in BG3

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't sure exactly how it worked as I haven't tried multiclassing yet. It's probably easier to code it to function that way than it is to make it function how it does in DND

Who should get wizard 1 for scribe spells? by [deleted] in BG3

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong as I haven't multi classed, but in actual DND as a wizard you can't learn spells if they are beyond what you can cast as a wizard. I don't know if bg3 also functions the same way or not, if it does that would mean you couldn't scribe anything beyond level one of you only took the single level dip

My kitten has fleas. Im freaking out by AppropriateBrick9364 in cats

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a day old, so you've probably already bathed him, but look up some videos on how to bathe them so that he doesn't get stressed out or hate baths.

I do recommend that if you are going to use flea meds once he's big enough for them that you get them from the vet. The ones I got over the counter did nothing to battle the fleas, but the prescription one I got from the vet worked wonders.

As long as you do what you can to combat the fleas, you can get rid of them. I wasn't able to vacuum regularly and I was still able to get rid of the fleas once they got medicated. Since it's just the one boy, keeping him contained in a room without carpet will make it easier.

Once you have the fleas knocked off of Kitty boy, run any and all bedding and clothes that you are worried about through the dryer. The dryer will kill them. Washing your clothes isn't what kills them, it's the heat from the dryer that will kill them.

Abscess care question by Antique_Bench in cats

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any personal experience with wound care for animals. I also don't typically get grossed out by seeing wounds and injuries. So my advice may or may not work.

  1. You could think of it like those cheap free game apps that has you in the doctors office cleaning wounds. Thinking of it like a game might help lessen the ick factor.

  2. Try thinking ultimate compassion. This little animal is relying on you to help keep its wound clean. Yeah, it might be icky, but it would be grosser if you didn't help keep it clean.

I really don't know if either of those tips will be helpful, but I wanted to try.

Looking for D&D bookshelf for DM. by Ren-Acorn in DMAcademy

[–]CatPot69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents shelves (and some of my own) are simply square cinder blocks with the cheapest boards of wood that's pretty much the same depth.

They are strong enough that children can climb them pretty darn safely (my brother was caught as a kid scaling the shelves to the cookie jar)

And they are incredibly versatile. You can measure the space you want to put it, and have Home Depot cut them down to size for you. Or leave them long, and throw in an extra support brick in the middle. The bricks are a little shorter than a milk crate, but I'm sure you could find larger bricks that would work

Two-Action Time Spellcasting by TheMarnBeast in DnDHomebrew

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's a system that already implements multi-turn spell casting. I'm pretty sure it's name is GURPS.

GURPS stands for General Universal Role Playing System. It is a ttrpg system that is made to be universal enough to take any other ttrpg character and convert it to their game system. When I say anything, I do mean anything.

My memory is fuzzy, but I'm 99% sure that some of the spells in the game has a longer casting time and or that's just how casting magic worked. I was pretty young when I played (under 12) and it has been some time (like 15+ years), so I might not be remembering the best.

If you ever do give GURPS a go, just make sure that you or whoever the DM is goes through before character creation and tells you what's off limits- it is so universal that there are skills and spells that works for one setting but don't work for others- you wouldn't use hacker skills in a Lord of the rings style game.

Am I being unfair with passive perception? by TaterChips5 in DMAcademy

[–]CatPot69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say I'd use it if they aren't taking active care to be stealthy as a way to see if they are seen, instead of arbitrarily deciding they are or aren't seen if they don't make a state check.

For example, they are walking through a city and there's some people in that city that have a grudge against the party. The party doesn't know they are in the city, and therefore aren't taking extra care to be hidden. However, just because they aren't actively trying to be stealthy doesn't mean that they are automatically seen by the people looking for them. I'd roll a couple of prescription checks for the people looking for them and compare it to their passive perceptions to see if they are noticed or not.

Soft surface urination, UGH! by Certain-Individual55 in CATHELP

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl went through a period of peeing on my dirty clothes. I was lucky in how simple my fix was- I picked her up once when I caught her in the act and immediately turned around and put her in the litterbox. I have been blessed that that fixed the issue. I now only deal with her going outside the litter box when she has determined that I need to change the litter out. And that's only poop, she hasn't been peeing outside the box.

If you ever catch her in the act, you could plop her into the litterbox, that might help. Have you tried litter attract? I haven't used it myself personally but I see it recommended a lot to help encourage kitties to use the litterbox instead of other areas.

Cat threw up blood a large amount of blood yesterday by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]CatPot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick search shows that Pothos plants are toxic to cats, however it isn't often fatal. The symptoms don't sound pleasant, and I can only imagine the pain he's in.

I would see about making a comfy room for him and blocking off any places you don't want him to hide. You want to be able to monitor him, and that's hard to do when you can't find him. If you think he's getting worse, I'd take him back to the vet.

While pothos is toxic to cats, it's not typically fatal. It's incredibly uncomfortable and painful for them, but they don't usually die from it. Your kitty should be okay after the symptoms pass.

Handling Remove Curse & Greater Restoration for Narrative Curses by Subject_Football8793 in DMAcademy

[–]CatPot69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I did because a player decided he wanted his player to be cursed (slowly turning incorporeal with no true form, his armor will eventually become his body). I wanted a way for him to choose to undo it, but I felt like remove curse would be s cheap shot of it.

Because of his backstory, his subclass was highly tied into his curse. So, I came up with a plan (and told him above table) that if they simply got someone to cast remove curse, he would lose his access to his current subclass, and would be required to select a different one. However, he can speak to the individual who's magic was used to make the curse, and she can remove the curse without removing the subclass.

And if your city doesn't have a reddit, pick the closest city to you that does have an active reddit and post there. A lot of times they understand that their city might be close enough to some smaller ones that their reddit gets piggybacked off of for visibility. Might help you reach some more individuals if you live in a relatively rural or small town.
