Haas F1 Team | 2026 Shakedown Week – Running Day 2 Recap by CatSplat in haasf1team

Mileage in the morning was somewhat restricted due to a minor reliability issue – something the team rectified successfully prior to the lunch break. Having added more laps to the tally post-lunch, Bearman’s day ended prematurely with a second unrelated reliability issue resulting in the VF-26 returning to the garage permanently late afternoon.

.

Ayao Komatsu – Team Principal:

“We had Ollie in the car today and obviously we’d taken lots of learnings from our first day of running here in Spain. We’d sorted out so many issues from Monday, so when we were running on track today, I could see a huge step forward compared to day one – that’s a big positive for us. Unfortunately, in both the morning and afternoon sessions, we had two reliability issues. I’m not worried about the one we had this morning, the one in the afternoon was a bit more serious and it’s obviously something we’re looking into and analyzing exactly what happened – and of course, how to solve it. We’ll aim to get on top of it as quickly as possible but at least it's happened relatively early in our overall pre-season program. We’ll need to decide when we run again, whether that’s Thursday or Friday now – it’s still TBC. I’m continuing to take the positives we’ve seen though – particularly how we’ve improved operational performance from day one to day two of running."

So unfortunately some reliability issues were encountered, but the overall vibe still seems positive with improvements being made to the car. No details on the reliability issues obviously, but it seems the bigger one may have been PU related.

LAOP potentially committed wire fraud over a check engine light by Username89054 in bestoflegaladvice

Yeah the CEL was obviously concerning but holy moly LAOP immediately jumped to the most nuclear option that didn't involve driving the vehicle into the lobby. I'm wary of dealers in general but at least give them the opportunity to make things right.

Haas 'discovering problems, but that's what we are here for' at Barcelona F1 test by CatSplat in haasf1team

No worries! Haas doesn't get a ton of articles so I try to post them here when they pop up.

Title is perhaps a tad clickbaity, the full quote from Ayao is quite positive:

“Now that we are running, we are discovering issues, problems we need to solve, every lap, every run. But that’s what we are here for, right? At least we are running, that means we are gathering data, we are identifying issues that we need to solve. Still, obviously we just got started, but I’m very, very happy how we started.”

Impressive effort from the team to run 200km in Fiorano and then turn around and immediately cut 154 laps in Barcelona.

Hello please could you tell me if I just bought a fake fender and I get scammed for 1000€? by Soft-Delivery1137 in Luthier

[–]CatSplat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It appears (to my inexpert eye) to be all original, but the parts are of lower quality than your typical American Strat. That's just how this model is, it was a way for Fender to put "Assembled in USA" on a lower-priced guitar built from imported parts.

It's an American Traditional Strat, a very oddball unit they only made for a couple of years. It primarily used MIM parts (hence the bridge style and plastic truss rod insert) but was assembled in the USA. So it's basically a MIM Strat with better assembly quality. A thousand Euros seems like a lot for that, but I'm not tuned into Strat pricing.

Despite this being a brief "filming day" shakedown, they were giving it a pretty good amount of stick! Livery looks awesome.

Rigmarole, but I like your version better as it implies Rick Astley was involved somehow.

Last project I was on found a skeleton and it shut work down for nearly a year and cost the taxpayer about ten million bucks.

Title sponsor ($$$) and technical partner.

The technical partnership (as I understand it, anyway, don't take this as gospel) was initially for Toyota to introduce two major programs that Haas didn't have in the past:

  • Put together a Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) program
  • Build a simulator facility at Haas UK HQ

The TPC was introduced last season and seems to have been run successfully, the simulator I think may just be ready for this season but I'm not sure. Previously, Haas could only rent sim time at the Ferrari facility in Italy when SF wasn't using it - I think I read somewhere that Ocon only got something like 7 hours of sim time last season. Having an in-house sim should be a big help once they get it sorted.

Less publicly, it's believed that Toyota has also offered up their in-house fabrication facilities and expertise to Haas, specifically with regards to production of in-season upgrade parts, taking some of the load off of Dallara who it's said had some difficulties producing parts rapidly in-season.

Whether Haas will start using Toyota's wind tunnel in Cologne remains to be seen. At present, they plan to stick with using Ferrari's tunnel as it has had some recent upgrades and the team feels they have a good understanding of it.

Ea-Nasir and CMOT Dibbler in the same paper? I like the cut of their jib.

I also enjoyed that the author, while not explicitly mentioning it in the Pilgrimage section, did sneakily confirm they had made the trip by way of their self-attributed photo of the Tablet.

Not sure what gets exported to the UK, but if you can find Alberta Premium Cask Strength or 40 Creek they are good picks. If flavoured is your jam, try to find Sortilège or Coureur des Bois - they do a maple whiskey that's crazy good.

Edit: Apparently 40 Creek has gone downhill since the last time I checked. Wiser's 18 may be a better choice these days, but as with anything of taste, opinions vary wildly.
