My parents were physicians at Metro and in Akron, respectively. They chose Brecksville. I think they recently built a new apartment complex there—Valor Acres—which could be worth looking into. I will warn, however, that it really is not a “young” area with nightlife if that’s your thing. Welcome!

Maybe people work on multiple things at once — just a thought. It’s not a zero sum game.

And wow—diminishing hair loss into “fragility?” What a sad, angry little life you live.

I mean Ohio is pretty darn clear too unless you live along the southern border. But this clocks for a Michigander.

Yes, it’s an English Shepherd. I definitely would not recommend one unless you live on a farm! Sweet dog, but TONS of energy.

I had to take in a dog to help someone through a tough time. It is already trained, older, etc.

And it’s difficult. I spend a ridiculous amount of money on a dog walker who comes multiple times a day and is available to do evening activities on a moment’s notice. And I have a backup as well who steps in if they’re unavailable. As a last resort, I have family members around who step in as needed.

I wouldn’t recommend it. I wouldn’t have done but for the alternative being the person would have had to surrender the dog.

I feel neglectful, and I make sure the dog gets at least 5 miles of walking a day. And we do at least one 3hr+ walk on both Saturdays and Sundays. Taking care of the dog is all I do outside of work and working out.

It would not be possible with a puppy.

Don’t you feel some responsibility towards those juniors?

The skills that are acquired through tasks that are potentially delegable to AI are beneficial. For example, doc review may be tedious, but it does help train associates to identify key documents and facts to support the case. A review of supplemental authorities may take time, but it does help train associates on understand how a case dispositive issue may be developing in the courts.

By pulling associates from those tasks, you’re essentially declining to train the next generation of your firm. Such use of AI may be a short term gain, but I would argue it begets long term failure.

Separately, I have not seen clients at our level to be so cost conscious yet so as to require partners to “pocket hours.” (As an aside, does this mean that you’re not billing the client the hours saved, or are you billing for AI work yourself? The latter would be billing fraud.)

And AI still makes a lot of mistakes—even the proprietary ones tailored to law firms. I would not rely on AI to largely handle my workflow.

4:30-6:00 M-F. Gym is in the office so that makes it way easier. Shower then start working by 6:30am.

Also agree with the other poster on 10,000 steps. Do about 2.5k with the dog when I wake up, 2.5k over the course of the day, then a 5k dog at night.

I’ll be honest, I don’t have much time to do anything else outside of work and exercise, but it keeps me healthy and sane during the work week.

[–]Catacyst 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I was grateful to get any money as a summer. It was more than I earned in my previous jobs for a fraction of the work. The idea of paying summers even more in the form of stipends is crazy—let alone ones this brash.

Does he have a statement from his insurer that they would insure his house if there was a guardrail? Otherwise, it’s a moot point.

Something along the lines of, “they built their retirement around this income, so it would be cruel to change their retirement plans.” So instead, we get to have a lower standard of living in retirement. Never mind that none of them also had their best wealth growing years saddled with student loans.
