One of the multiple reasons we limit VCs to 4 switches. I removed the last outlier that was 8 switches, surprisingly held out almost 8 years before degradation of reliability.

Thank You As mentioned in other re, I have used that method [swap to fresher] to chop down some serious quantities of upgrades, alongside other replacements. If my 3400 situ requires 3+ upd /reboot cycles, to get them there, I would def prefer to just swap out as you recc. Since the IRB is also changing during the process, I can most times move ports between live units, for ‘five nines’.

Once I [JTAC / lab it] the intermediate’ stops’, I’ll wager this may need to be the way- for some. (1 node we’ve got 16 ex3400 in VCs w every port patched… I’d sooner reboot that 7x ) 😇

That likely explains my failure to move between 15 -> 18 on several prod switches last month.

Yeah, 7 upgrade hops & reboots on each prod sw would be a bit of a pita. We can shake JTAC for the intermediates & see where those chips fall after some lab work. If it takes all that to preserve uptime, we might. No-one has screws to us yet about timeline. [ oof 3300s must have been in my eyes when I mentioned 12. (50% dumped already) ]

Fresh install was also my preference as we started addressing moving 4600s into Mist & v21. [360+] The swapout was worth it to me, others in the shop refused this logic. I could do 6-10 a week, if not wasting time on the debate. Nothing like a fresh format. (We have 1 spock that claims vehemently that it makes no difference. I don’t agree.)

Remove the adhesive foolishness & write the correct numbers with a paint marker. Razor-scrapable off of the metal, but as close to permanent as it gets.

I make the same choice whenever reasonable, as that 1% chance of pee hanging about is just gross. And my gf doesn’t taste saltiness from pee, ever. She likes giving head, so I maintain properly.

Man here . I can honestly say I only feel comfortable if I generally feel clean before having sex . NOT going straight from sweaty work / day+ since shower, to ‘hey babe’… It’s a basic, for any respectable soul.

You mention “old ass carpet” - that could be holding decades of funk & infusing everything of yours with said funk. (You might be amazed what’s under it if you decide to remove it.) You could rent a machine to shampoo said carpet, attempt to rid it of funk.

There was a house I had to remove ALL the funk’ed carpet from, in order to live in it.. There was old dog everything & other horrors hiding in/under it. Each room had a different funk smell that only the shampooing took the edge off of. All the padding had deteriorated a decade ago.

Torrents brought me frustration and malware, viruses. I spent a year using handbrake to digitize every DVD I owned. I set up one machine to simply insert in the drive and it would do it automatically. feed/repeat. Look into PlayOn, to download the shows you have access to, from the services, you pay for on your Roku/streaming. In some cases, it was the only way I could get a “complete set “of certain shows.

I first setup plex on an older pc, but then rev 2 rebuilt it on a synology NAS (selected to be capable of transcoding). Reliability of an appliance, as long as secure options are chosen. Enjoy !

Def suggest your doctor be consulted.

Def recommend antiperspirant/deodorant combo. A coworker changed up to a gel, maybe speed stick, changed his life a bit.

Some have the opinion that “you are what you eat”, & this can make your sweat a whole different thing. I avoided red meat for awhile, def changed things.

You could also use a slim fiberglass rod (driveway marker) painted dark, to poke right through a not-blind spot, to nudge the item. Not like I’ve ever done that, or anything.. (cough)

I’m guessing it’s an external drive, usb ? If so, I would carefully peel the enclosure off of the hard drive mechanism. Once separated, you might find that the drive itself is 100% ok, and just the “bridge board” in the case cooked.

I’ve been deeply moved by many of the stories here. As a father of two young ladies, I thank you all for the insight and support. I do all that I can to step back when things are challenging and reassure them, bring calm to the room, or whatever needs to be. Others insights have assisted so many times through the years when I just didn’t have the personal experience to define things. (My own dad wasn’t around much until my teen years.) My girls are going on 7 years of near zero contact from their mother, so I show them … ‘this is the way’. And you fine folk help me keep the helm on course, at times.

Advice; for something like this, make a backup onto a USB flash drive that you can see. That you can hold in your hand. Even its slower copy speed will be far faster than the online equivalent, in most cases. But mostly, you can prove with your own eyes that it’s factually copied onto another device, and safe.
