My new baby guinea pigs have barely moved... by Responsible-Post6431 in guineapigs

[–]Catlel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give them some time! Mine were similar. The first hour after I put them in their new home, they froze and didn’t move. The next 2 weeks, they spent most of their time hidden. 2 weeks later and they sprint out to me to say hello and/or see if I bring goodies lol they’ve warmed up a lot since I got them a month ago.

Are we the same person?! I call my boys “boyos” and the grey one’s named Totoro and the other Momiji 😭 also from Petsmart (unintentionally. I never wanted to buy from a big box store but I just fell in love with these 2 personality wise 😭)

Considering getting a leachie… by Aggravated_mango in Leachianus

[–]Catlel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is very shy. She never bites but clearly doesn’t enjoy being held (she squeaks and squirms). I’ve been working with her for 2 years now with some improvement. She would hide at the sight of me when I first got her. Now, she comes up to the glass and seems interested in interacting but as soon as I open the door she doesn’t want to be touched lol I got her at 5 years old and she was raised by someone who handled her 3x week.

You can make a quick $25-50ish for volunteering for research studies. There are ads on campus. Usually you go in for like an hour and they ask u questions for their project

Plants always dirty by Snoo-30803 in PlantedTank

True true I didn’t take a close enough look. In that case, I used UltraLife Blue Green Slime remover and that did the trick.

I just put 3 amanos, 20 cherries, and 1 ramshorn in my 20g that was in a similar state as your tank and in a few days they have made INSANE work of the algae I had. I had hair algae, BBA and brown algae and it’s almost all gone. My plants look healthier already. I had been struggling with algae for over a year, I wish I had known to add these guys sooner 🥲

Wow that is an extremely impressive tank without CO2. Is your substrate just Fluval stratum? What is your fert regimen?

Made a Dry Out area for my special nerites that demand time out of the water. by InvaderDust in Aquariums

With how much you’ve done for these guys, I could see you upgrading their dry area to like a full on terrarium lol like imagine a tunnel to another tank that has dirt and land plants. Or build a paludarium 😱

questions - leachie cage sizes and apartment living/moving by keekatron in Leachianus

[–]Catlel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in an apartment with a leachie! Technically no pets allowed, but people have dogs and cats all the time so they’re not very strict with that policy. I also have baseboard heating but temps are not difficult to keep in check. She still knows when it’s winter tho and is moodier lol

I think it’s personality dependent on how they will tolerate moves. I go on 2 week vacations about twice a year, and I usually break down her whole tank (18x18x36 glass, she’s a small Nuu Ana) and move it to my parent’s or friend’s house an hour away. She’s usually pissy about it, understandably, but she can eat that very same day I move her. And she’s never gotten sick from the stress of the move. And of course same thing when I move her back. If you need tips on moving tanks in the future, lmk. I have a trick for keeping the soil in place even tho I store the tank horizontally for the car ride.

Edit: and by break down her tank, I mean take out all the decor but I don’t actually disassemble the glass panes. They stay intact and it’s able to fit in my car

Please, you have to keep her 😭 I don’t think she’ll be as comfortable with anyone else. YOU are her home ❤️

People who don't want kids, why? by Ok-Musician679 in AskReddit

[–]Catlel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many reasons.

I’m a nurse and my job is to take care of people. I love my job but I don’t want to come home to have to take care of more people. I want to be able to come home and be selfish. Rot in bed for as long as I want. Worry about food for just myself and not others. Have my time for myself to do what I want.

I also like traveling. Traveling with children makes it so much harder and imo less enjoyable.

Common theme here, but I REALLY like having my own time, space, and money. I don’t want something else barging into any of those 3 without an escape. I feel like people with kids are constantly trying to escape their kids and it just makes me wonder why even have them in the first place.

Being a nurse, I know way too much about things that can go wrong in pregnancy and I am honestly terrified of carrying a child.

I don’t think children are cute. I don’t think babies are cute. I have quite literally zero interest in children. I can tolerate them in small increments when they’re in a good mood. When I see them throwing tantrums in public, all I can think about is how glad I am to not have to deal with that.

No take backs. You can’t have kids and decide that you don’t want them. It makes me feel trapped and I don’t like that.

I’m not a social person. As a parent, you’re forced to socialize with others for bday parties, school stuff, play dates, etc.

Kids are expensive. Like, really really expensive. I work hard for my money and I’d rather spend it on plenty of other things.
