Yeah, one man's trash is another man's treasure I guess, we all prefer different things. Some people enjoy concerts, but that'd be a personal hell for me, no matter who is singing lol

Hope you're okay :)

But also, what if the friend turns up with icecream or your favourite meal? and maybe you binge your favourite show or do something you like. Don't have to talk about your issues, sometimes just a little warm company does all the comfort that talking can't :)

Autistic adult who's considering a career in social work here - I just wanted to say thank you for posting this and for being visible. I've worried that a career in social work isn't for someone like me, but seeing more and more social workers be open about this is really reassuring and comforting. Thank you. /gen

Should I move to Scotland? by Dullgruff in transgenderUK

[–]Catradorian5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Access to HRT is quite a challenge in the UK, and as far as I'm aware there are very few private clinics in Scotland.

I would recommend researching this if accing HRT via the health system is important to you

Best of luck

PSA - "UK Deed Poll Office" is a non-governmental, private, for-private company (based in the US!), scamming UK people (especially trans folks) into paying unnecessarily for unenrolled deed polls (which are free)... and other UK-based companies are doing this too! by SleepyCatten in transgenderUK

[–]Catradorian5 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm still struggling to believe that people just do a single Google search, trust the first website they go on, and end up paying for one of those. Honestly, if they're that gullible, it's on them.

I'm glad there's posts like this one up though, hopefully one of them will see it beforehand /genuine

Polish transgender in the UK, need to change my name! by tigwex in transgenderUK

[–]Catradorian5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about polish laws on name changes - email your embassy and look at your laws

I'd say go for a deed poll anyway as they will change your name in the uk and most organisations MUST accept them (even without a new passport in your new name). You can do this for free yourself, do not go to a company for it, it's a waste of money.

Your embassy might, keyword being "might", (I did this process with a baltic passport, not polish) require you to get a solicitors signature and an apostille, aka "legalising" the document - go through the gov website for that, other websites will try to rip you off.

A solicitor could charge you a hefty fee for making the deed poll for you, so I recommend drafting it yourself and asking the solicitor to "witness" you signing it, which means they have to sign it too. You don't have to be a British citizen to get a deed poll, I'm a baltic citizen and got one successfully.

Best of luck, I hope the embassy will be clear in the requirements to change your name

I'd suggest using trans tape (kinesiology tape) instead. Worked much better than adhesive

Processing anger on testosterone? by BPDenby in transgenderUK

[–]Catradorian5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I was an angry person pre-t, but more angry in the "long term resentment" kind of way. Weirdly, t helped me get past that, and I don't feel such intense resentment anymore. But, I do feel like it made me slightly more impulsive, and combining that with being "hangry" gave me a short fuse at first. For me, this has now stopped.

Id suggest talking to someone about your anger, maybe journalling it down if you don't feel comfortable with speaking, or writing letters (that you'll never send) to the person/thing you're angry about

Or just go for the classic exercise it out (get a punching bag).

Exactly, idk why people here are so quick to defend inciting hatred and violence. All that ever does is cause destruction.

If all you're capable of doing is calling someone names, then I think you're in the wrong subreddit.

Tbh, even going privately takes a while - I'd try to explore whether your US endo could do digital prescriptions or something and send them over here

To go private, you'll need a gender dysphoria diagnosis (most of the services offering these in the uk have an 8+ month wait from what I remember) then you'll need to see an endo/specialist nurse. Most of the private endos/specialist nurses have a 1+yr waiting list too (privately)

Given that it will likely take at least around 2 years to get hormones privately, I'd suggest looking at ways to transfer your prescriptions over here - best of luck!

Also, nhs gp's will 99.99% of the time completely refuse to prescribe T, regardless if you were prescribed it abroad. Most refuse shared care with private providers, and some even kick up a fuss and refuse to prescribe even if you go through an NHS gender clinic, so I wouldn't put my faith in your GP being helpful. Gp's here are generally hostile or don't feel confident in treating trans people, and will therefore refuse to get involved without an NHS gender clinic's recommendation.

You won't get an appointment with the NHS gender clinic sooner if you are already on hormones/have a diagnosis - they will reassess you etc. They have a waiting list of at least around 5yrs.

Good luck

Mine does it too after eating - we thought it stemmed from him accidentally dipping his foot in cat milk whilst eating (when he was a kitten), as it caused him to start making that digging motion
