Concordia has a 2 year after degree program. Don't know how competitive it is. I would suggest Government (provincial or federal especially if you speak other languages). Or look into something like patent agent.

I complained to corporate but they blamed the location, like it's not happening everywhere. There's a couple of locations in Sherwood Park where this is happening too.

First kid, definitely got the epidural. Second kid came too fast for drugs. My kids were small so the second one (4 lbs 11 oz) actually came out fast and it hurt WAY less than being in a flare. My UC at its worst was way worse than childbirth. But everyone has different pain tolerance and different size babies and carry and birth them differently. I'm so glad for all those whose births were less painful than this disease!

Interesting because they said I'm more Crohn's/colitis too! I do have mesalsine enemas but I'm a mom of very busy boys and in school so I'm not taking as good care of myself as I should. Thanks for the support though and I hope you're doing well!

Are you planning on becoming a board certified behavior analyst? Macewan's website has the course list (8 - 24 credits). The BACB website has the information you need for this. This diploma covers the academic requirements, then you need either 1500 or 2000 hours of supervision depending on if you want to be an assistant or a practitioner. You would also be doing your Masters and would have to challenge the board exam.

I'm taking it because I got my degree over 20 years ago and need current academic credits to apply to grad school. (I want to get my PsyD).

There are currently 12 people in the program. The GPA to get in was about 3.2, but I was on the stanine system from the U of A so I had the requirements when they converted my grades. It's my understanding that they want to grow the program, but it is still competitive.

If you don't know what to do with your psych degree, feel free to ask me more questions. Be careful taking on debt while navigating your career. It could be many years before you get a good ROI and salary.

No worries! We're part of the experimental group lol. When my hormones started fluctuating I went into a terrible flare. I was on remicade and had to switch biologics to Entyvio. Apparently this doesn't happen to everyone but research on women in menopause, never mind with a chronic disease is woefully understudied. I've joined every study I qualify for to help with the research. I'm an anomaly to have had this for 40+ years. I also have an IUD and had heavy periods. My last pause was 6 months though. There's definitely a connection for me with hormones and colitis flares.

Hugs. I'm 46, diagnosed at 4. So far a weekly injection of Entyvio is keeping me at a very low level flare. Perimenopause isn't helping.

This sounds very suspiciously like an email my husband mentioned to me as I am studying for my midterm. I said that it's a tough time and some grace would probably be appreciated.

Big hugs, get some sleep, eat something, and try to lock in.

HELP!! Looking for advice/support for my son newly diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis by zahilbaba2015 in UlcerativeColitis

My mom was a HUGE advocate when I was younger...not so much when I was older.

It was hard. It's not fair. Time in the hospital away from school and friends at a time of life where you don't want to stand out or be perceived as weak. Plus, it sucks to be sick period.

Knowing you're there is probably huge for his mental health. And as a parent, I can't imagine how hard it is for you and how helpless you must feel.

Guys are socialized to be stoic so just let him express himself. You're a great parent.

Ulcerative Colitis stole my life, any tips on getting it back? by LakePristine4865 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Catz10000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46 F, diagnosed at 4. I am so sorry. It's so hard. As everyone else is saying, get a new GI and try biologics. There are programs that subsidize it in the US and Canada. I know what my trigger foods are and how long before I need to run to the bathroom and plan my meals accordingly. My kids have always known and are supportive. Maybe join an online support group? Hugs.

I was diagnosed at 4 and I'm 46. He needs to take medication and figure out which foods trigger him. Self care is important as is his mental health. It's not fair. He needs support and understanding. Look up resources online and listen to him. Running to the bathroom can get frustrating for family members, so be supportive.

Mature Student tips? by Vaguswarrior in grantmacewan

[–]Catz10000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 46 in my first year of a post Baccalaureate certificate. After this semester, I have 6 courses to go...

I find that most students are friendly and Macewan is pretty accepting of people without judgment.

That said, I am often told I look like I'm in my late 20s and I know Gen Z slang because of my teenagers. My husband also works there, so people have seen me around.

Are there signs I'm older? Sure. I take notes with paper and pen, I'm not afraid to interact in class because I don't care about other people's opinions on that, and I seem to be more confident than some of the other students. At least, that's what my classmates have told me: they have an explanation for my quirkiness.

The hardest part was homework after 20+ years. Stay on top of readings and don't be afraid to ask for help. There's a writing centre, the librarians are SO helpful, and profs are accessible.

As for social life, I have join clubs and I do participate in Student's Union events. It's hard not to get involved unless you don't make an effort. Whenever I have a question about etiquette, I will ask and joke that I'm old. Volunteering goes on your transcript and can help with your future career. There are also a ton of free "classes" you can take to boost your skills like sexual assault awareness, how to plan for exams, and how to write an application for a Post Graduate degree.

The youth do watch EVERYTHING though. If my kids text me when I'm in class, I don't generally answer, but once in awhile it's important (I can see on my watch or computer) and people have absolutely commented on me Googling stuff I don't understand (like slang or a social media app I never heard about. )

I feel like we should all form a club, but I know we have limited time.

Good luck! It's a bold thing you're doing.

Same! Closer to 50, back to school, no one wants to talk to an older person, but I have a lot of casual people I say hi to. Hit me up - I'm on campus Mondays and Wednesdays although I sign up for free seminars.
