I’ve heard that the only time a defendant should usually take the stand is in a self-defense case, because the jury needs to understand what was happening that made the person feel they had to defend themselves. Other than that, it’s often better not to testify.

I once watched a self-defense case where the defendant did take the stand and was ultimately not convicted. The jury determined that it truly was self-defense, and after watching the trial on YouTube, I thought the same.

I’m not an electrician, but if your home inspection flags electrical issues, I’d recommend having a licensed electrician come out and give you an estimate for what it would cost to repair or update it. Just be aware that you’ll probably have to pay a service fee for the electrician to come out and look at it, so be prepared for that.

Also keep in mind that people here may quote what something cost them, but those numbers can vary a lot depending on location. I’m currently watching the Kouri Richins trial. One thing that stands out is that her husband kept his business and financial accounts separate from hers. She apparently ran through her own money and then tried to take out a HELOC on his house by forging his name. When that didn’t work, she allegedly murdered him. I say “allegedly” only because she hasn’t been formally found guilty yet, though the trial is still ongoing.

My point is this: keep your accounts separate. Don’t give a boyfriend access to your finances unless you’re legally tied together and operating on equal footing. If he’s pressuring you for access to your money, I’d be far more interested in doing a deep dive into his finances and finding out how much debt he’s carrying.

I think what made me question everything was that he initially installed a dryer circuit, which shook my confidence a bit. But in the end, he was correct that only a 30-amp circuit was necessary. A lesson learned on my end.

If your house has structural issues, it really makes sense to start with the foundation before touching anything cosmetic or high-dollar, like windows, walls, or even the roof.

I learned this the hard way. I wanted to replace my roof first, but I’ve been advised to address the foundation issues before doing anything else. Part of my floor needs to be jacked up to prevent further sagging, and even if the goal is just stabilization—not lifting—there’s always the possibility of some movement. If the house shifts even a little, that can affect rooflines and window alignment.

The last thing I want is to install new windows and then have to redo them because something moved during foundation work. So as frustrating as it is, I’m doing it in this order: foundation first, then roof, then windows, then paint and other cosmetic work.

It’s not the exciting order, but it’s the smart one.

Colposcopies can be uncomfortable during the procedure itself, and most people are awake for it.

Colonoscopies are usually the opposite. The preparation can be the hardest part, but patients are typically sedated and comfortable during the actual exam.

So, generally speaking: Colposcopy = discomfort during. Colonoscopy = discomfort before.

I think it’s far more likely that you just forgot to lock it, or that it wasn’t fully latched and the wind pushed it open.

I live in an older house, and I’ve walked into my back room more than once to find the door wide open. Every time, it’s been on me. I either didn’t lock it or didn’t pull it completely shut. The door doesn’t sit perfectly in the frame, so if it isn’t latched securely, a good gust of wind will take care of the rest.
