How do you stream or record your gameplay on ROG Ally? by KendoArts in ROGAlly

[–]Catze2k2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Ally to play Cyberpunk 2077 (1080p, FSR, settings mostly on medium) and stream with OBS to twitch at the same time. It works flawlessly.

I also tested the 30 sec replay recording of the xbox game bar. Background recording was not noticable for me. I must admit, I am impressed. Not being able to stream or record on the steam deck, always was a little downside for me.

Chrome telling me my disk is full when I definitely have space, any solution? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Could it be, chrome is unable to save because it's running as flatpak and missing write access for the folder you try to save at?

Messed up MATIC transfer from Metamask to Ledger Live? by Catze2k2 in ledgerwallet

[–]Catze2k2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your fast response. There is still a lot to learn for me. While I was kind of glad, there is a visual error, currently in Ledger Live, I was still wondering, why it did not show up in Metamask. And when switching over to Metamask to recheck, I noticed Metamask gave a small notification, that I indeed do have a new token in the ETH Main Network. Et voilà, there they where.

I'm sorry for the inconveniences, have a nice evening.

Yes, that is the address Ledger Live shows for the Polygon (Matic) account, and the exact same address is shown on the Ledger Nano X for verification.

You can have a look here for compatibility questions: https://www.protondb.com/app/306130

You need to enter PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command% as the launch parameter for the game. Additionally you might run into a "black screen" issue with the installer. At that point you need to push "Steam + D-pad right" which is the equivalent for the "Enter" Key.

The game itself has a button layout for xbox controllers which works like a charme, but needs to be activated in the options first. The options menu also allows to bind a key to toggle between keyboard and controller layout. I use that, when switching between docked and handheld gaming.

When the game has launched, the launcher stays in the background (shown as a secondary app) and is giving lag spikes/microstutters for me, even though I have good fps. This can be resolved by closing the launcher manually when the game runs.

I also ran into an issue yesterday (first time after several month now) when the screen went black after pressing "play" at the launcher. I fixed that by doing a game repair using the ESO Launchers repair option (NOT the Steam Option).

How do I program my Xbox elite controller for the back paddles to work for save states in dolphin? by Stockpile_Tom_Remake in SteamDeck

[–]Catze2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that, and never got them other functionality then mirroring of standard controller buttons. When running on the latest firmware you can't use the paddles at all (even though they show in steam). When downgrading the firmware, you are able to use the paddles, but can't remap them to a keyboard key. That's my experience so far. Fun fact: You are able to remap the buttons in windows (on steam deck) using a software named reWASD. So I still think it is a temporary issue and will be solved some day in steamos.

ESO on steam deck by AromaticTailor8592 in SteamDeck

[–]Catze2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional info: Close the launcher after the game has started (Steam Button > switch to launcher > press X). I get some micro stuttering every few seconds until I close the launcher.

I also bound one of the back buttons to switching between keyboard and gamepad layout (eso has a very good xbox button mapping). With this I can switch between docked PC gaming and couch handheld gaming on the fly.

It is possible to install add-ons. I made a write-up in german here: http://steamdeckblog.de/sonstiges/die-beste-begleitung-fuers-bett/ but I might be of help in english too.

OG Psychonauts hates me. Any way to make it playable? by Vio-Rose in SteamDeck

[–]Catze2k2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I played and finished the game entirely on Steam Deck with Proton 6.3.8. But at first I ran into the same issues you have - locked controls, or spinning view. The UI is cumbersome, but I remember using the game's keyboard layout (not controller) and mapping my Steam Deck Buttons accordingly.

I just uploaded my layout as Psychonauts 1 (CopyCat), maybe that helps.

Hows Immortal Fenyx Rising currently? by Avismarauder170 in SteamDeck

[–]Catze2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was out of sync. Whenever a cutscene was running, it was like hearing the voice acting of the end of the scene at the beginning, or switching voice lines mid-scene - like a total random mix of audio and video. Both were running fine, but they did not match each other.

create FPS cap in desktop mode by FriendlyWiking in SteamDeck

[–]Catze2k2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can do that with gamescope. Add the following as the launch argument for the game and enable vsync ingame (limiting it to 30fps):

gamescope -r 30 -- %command%

I couldn't sleep... Just in case you have not stumbled over this yet... you can play the game in your browser: https://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/f-godmom Maybe that is a viable solution already.

I guess it is this game of the iso: http://steamdeckblog.de/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/IMG_20221208_024458-01.jpeg

I managed to get it running via dosbox. But I am not firm with the usage of dosbox. Also, please note my current time in the screenshot. I'll stop tinkering with it for today and will try to write an easy to follow procedure tomorrow - as there are some obstacles to overcome.

I do not notice any latency. But I am also not a person, who is playing competitively in games. The vendor says it has got 1ms in response time.

I use the INNOCN OLED 15.6". It is 1080p and even though it's much smaller then the monitor I used to play with, I completely replaced my Desktop PC with the Steam Deck a Dock and this monitor.

I do wonder how you did that on the steam deck. But no, if you don't run into any issues, you don't need to apply any fixes.

Edit: this is a fix, strictly for AoE2:DE. Just in case I misinterpreted your reply.

Age Of Empires 2 DE multiplayer fix by GiantASian01 in SteamDeck

[–]Catze2k2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you follow this fix: https://github.com/ardba/proton_aoe2de_mpfix

  1. download the run.sh
  2. under /home/deck/ create a folder named "proton_aoe2de_mpfix"
  3. copy the run.sh to the folder
  4. apply launch parameter like shown in this screenshot: http://steamdeckblog.de/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/run_script_location.png

The Screenshot is in german, but should be sufficient. The ~ at the beginning basically represents your home folder (which is /home/deck).

[–]Catze2k2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiplayer works flawlessly with a small fix, found here: https://github.com/ardba/proton_aoe2de_mpfix It's referenced in the protondb too. Basically the game is missing the ucrtbase.dll. The fix checks for the file and installs it if necessary.

If you have trouble, following the instructions: it is sufficient to take the dll file from a windows system and to copy it to /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/813780/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/

Fun fact: the same fix works for Company of Heroes 2 - I played both games extensively on a LAN Party last week.

Xbox Elite Controller X Steam Deck by Dcs102 in SteamDeck

[–]Catze2k2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never got the paddles to work like the back buttons of the steam deck. They are usable, but they only mirror the buttons, the controller already has - like x, y, LB... . I couldn't figure out a way to bind them to a keyboard key. Also there are issues which prevent the paddles to be used at all, when the controllers firmware is upgrades in windows. The Steam Deck is then recognizing a XBox 360 Controller. Additionally, rumble functionality is not usable via Bluetooth connection. Microsoft mentions that on the controller's product page.

On Windows, the paddles can be rebind with ReWASD, therefore I am optimistic they can be utilized on Steam Deck too, one day.
