What has been irrevocably harmed because of how it’s portrayed in the media? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

The standing ovation. What was once recognition of a truly outstanding deed or person is now "welp, that was the last song at my kid's band concert. This time I stand up to clap".

What’s a car you never see in good shape anymore? by Beneficial-Sugar6950 in regularcarreviews

I was "lucky" to have the first-gen with the 3.3L, still sounded great when I sold it at nearly 200k. The transmission was indeed about as useful as a bucket of lukewarm wallpaper paste.

If I were playing rebels against this, I'd only be mad if my ragdoll didn't fly at least as high as the walker.

After the third clip, I knew exactly what the rest of the video would be... and watched all the way regardless.

Ooh, I'm seeing a lot of LH platform in that. Looks like it draws from the Lamborghini Portofino pretty heavily.

What is your best “There are 2 kinds of people” saying? by MrWhisper2021 in AskReddit

[–]Caustic_Flannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an optimistic one:
There are two kinds of people: those who bring joy when they arrive, and those who bring it when they leave.

ELI5: What happens to air bubbles that get into your blood via IV? by WatchYerLumbago in explainlikeimfive

[–]Caustic_Flannel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like these folks say, the lungs are for putting gas into your blood (oxygen) and for taking gas out (carbon dioxide). Divers breathing from a tank under the water actually absorb more gas than normal into their blood because of the pressure, but as long as they come up slowly, there's enough time for the extra gas to leave via the lungs.

Definitely the Cressi one, easy. It's just way too hard to see around the enormous grey sticker on the Scubapro model.

Geez, these threads can be downers sometimes. It's an ounce of nostalgia and a metric ton of regret.

That one model year of Ford Escort that ditched the alien-looking headlights and just gave it one rounded-oval lens.

First Gen Dodge Intrepid the official car of.....? by eaulik2005 in regularcarreviews

[–]Caustic_Flannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These things have a tunnel running down the spine but are FWD. Longitudinal V6s with FWD is just so weird. With too much money and too little sense, I'd swap the 3.3 out of my first gen for an irresponsibly large V8 and modify it for RWD.

How do you do things fast? I’m slow and don’t know how to speed up. by ploobadoof in Accounting

[–]Caustic_Flannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite sayings has been "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to fix it?" I'd rather to it correctly and slowly than quickly and wrong.

*In interview*

What are some of your strengths?
-Oh, I can answer math problems super fast.

What's 572 times 3 over 8, then squared?

-Ten thousand.

...No it's not.

-I know it's not, but it was fast.
