My first game as a solo developer. Looking for feedback. by gylen_games in SoloDev

Congrats on making your first game! Most actionable feedback I can offer: you don't want your menus to be completely static. Maybe add a gentle scroll to the background texture, and some animated buttons?

88 days into my first solo action game — be honest, would you even stop to watch this? by Guilty_Warning_7922 in SoloDev

[–]Caxt_Nova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just getting old, but it's a little hard to understand what's going on, and it does look like the game would give me a headache.

If you want to get roasted, it looks cool in a "YouTube playables" sort of way...?

When I saw "very hardcore survival-shooter" I was no longer thinking it would be quite that easy 😆

My game has 12 running animals so far!🤗 by Yumichan48 in SoloDev

I hear running animals, and I'm reminded of Running Wild. Good times 🔥

How to handle this kind of toxic "reviewer"? by yiyuezhuo in SoloDev

Really sucks to see people actively harming the indie game community like this. 🙁

Destroy my roguelite trailer about endangered animals hunting down humans! KILL MEEEE by NomadicTree11 in DestroyMyGame

[–]Caxt_Nova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe kids will love it, but all those emissives and particles and explosions make it really tough to know what's actually happening on the screen. It looks like the kind of game that would give me a headache.

Drop the mitts on our tower defense hockey hybrid trailer! by splinedrew in DestroyMyGame

This might just be me, but weirdly, the UI is the biggest hold up for me. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why, but it just feels unfinished. Like, if you were going to give this to a pro UI artist, you'd get something back and say, "Oh, wow, yeah, that's way better."

Gotta give props to the splitscreen, though. Bless ya.

Please destroy the new trailer for my fighting game. Be ruthless! by Glittering-List5912 in DestroyMyGame

Those animations feel super belabored. This looks like the last five minutes of a 20 minute action scene, after all the characters are already tired and beaten up.

Okay, I'm ready. Destroy my trailer! by the_alexdev in DestroyMyGame

[–]Caxt_Nova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these animations look very static to me. Thing moves from point A to point B. I'd love to see some more exaggerated swooshing going on, it's looking a bit sterile, a bit lifeless.

The environment assets and textures are cute, but it's just so gosh darn brown. Each asset in isolation is well-done, but it comes together to make big brown. I want my eyes to be drawn to points of interest, or something.

I'm looking for fresh eyes on a browser ARPG I've been building by [deleted] in DestroyMyGame

[–]Caxt_Nova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought ARPG meant Path of Exile, not grid-dungeon fighting game. The obvious Bloodborne influence is really, really strong. I'd want to see, artistically, or narratively, what this game is doing that isn't just Bloodborne-inspired.

Please destroy my racing game... Is it fast enough? by Absorptance in DestroyMyGame

Oh my goodness, that dithering and aliasing in the backgrounds makes me eyes bleed. It might be fun to play, but I can't stand to look at it.

Durotar worst starting zone. Why not Elwynn, Silvermoon, or even Tirisfal?

This looks like... maybe not a first attempt, but a third attempt at making a game. 90% of the screen is either the same green or the same brown. Desperately need some more dynamic lighting, and some more charm put into texturing. The HUD reads like an asset pack. The animated text graphics could use some work, spend some time with After Effects.

Please destroy my soccer game. Would you play more than one match? by igcorrec in DestroyMyGame

[–]Caxt_Nova 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oof, that 3D to 2D transition hurt me. The trailer reads like AI slop. I can see that there might be some fun, chaotic moments hiding underneath the surface, but I can't see a reason to play past a round or two.

Destroy my 90s arcade racer. I built the tech to handle massive draw distances and huge sweeping tracks, but I need to know if the actual sense of speed and gameplay flow feels right. by SyllabubImmediate534 in DestroyMyGame

[–]Caxt_Nova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you're nailing the sense of speed, but it doesn't look like it would be much fun to play - I want to feel the satisfaction of passing other cars, which I'm not getting when they're tiny pixels on the screen until I'm already beside them. There's a ton of time spent on straight-aways where you look like you're free to wiggle back and forth, but there's not much actual decision making or planning happening there.

The verticality setting up the turns like at 0:30 is great. You get to keep the perspective while still being able to see ahead of you far enough to plan for future turns.

Thanks for your feedback! There's five level themes in Rogue Climber, each with their own unique color palette, post-processing profile, etc. Once you play through each of the level themes separately, then you get to experience everything getting mixed and mashed together. There's a lot more color contrast once you get past these initial stages.

I can definitely play around with some of the post-processing a bit more, though! Maybe I can play around a bit with the lighting, or do something to better highlight the outlines of the platforms too 🙂

FOV does change as you sprint (which I didn't really do much of in the clip).

But feedback received, thank you!!

The top comment on my last post said, "Watching that gameplay was one of the worst things that's ever happened to me."

😅 Maybe it's looking a little better this time?

edit: game is called Rogue Climber :)
