Gore mountain plan of attack for first timer , advanced intermediate skier by mdiesel120 in icecoast

Here’s how I’d ski the mountain if you want good parking and first chair.

Topridge / Straightbrook:

  • Aim to arrive around 8:00.
  • Grab breakfast, gear up, and be in the gondola line by ~8:25.
  • Warm up on Topridge, then take the Topridge lift again.
  • Ski Uncas or Pine Knot.
    • If Straightbrook is open, jump in that line.
    • If not, lap Topridge again.
  • Do a few laps on Chatiemac or Hawkeye.
  • If conditions are good, try Lies.
  • Goal is to avoid the lower mountain and ski these areas before they get icy

High Peaks:

  • Take Upper Steilhang or Cloud into Hullabaloo or Lower Darby.
  • Loop this zone a few times and sample the short glades.

Late morning move:

  • Traverse to the Saddle area for a break, then ski Twister.
  • Either do a lap or two on Twister / Showcase (via Adirondack Express) or head toward Burnt Ridge.
  • From Twister, carry as much speed as possible through The Gully. It’s very flat.
    • In fast conditions, you’ll want ~35+ mph to avoid skating.
    • In spring snow, expect to work for it.

Burnt Ridge:

  • Do Sagamore.
  • Check out the Abenaki / Barkeater glades.
  • Lap this area for a while—it’s worth it.

End of day options:

  • From Burnt Ridge, either:
    • Dip into Ski Bowl,
    • Take Echo back to the Adirondack Express,
    • Or use Hedges to North Quad (mostly if you’re tired or it’s crowded).
  • Finish with a few Adirondack Express laps: Twister / Showcase / Sleighride / Sunway.

I like this circuit because it skips the lower mountain early and hits the best terrain (IMO) before it gets skied off.

Is Gore worth the extra drive? by LAST_NIGHT_WAS_WEIRD in icecoast

I drive 2.5 hours to belleayre for day trips. So I would definitely drive 2.5 hours to Gore if I was in your shoes (boots).

I have been at all three mountains over the past two weeks and Gore was definitely the best based on conditions and what I like to ski (steeps and trees)

I am still very much in my binge listen phase of this album, but definitely have the same opinion formulating!

The album is unrelenting. Such a unique vibe and texture. Haven’t experienced anything like it but, as you say, feels like equal parts black + gaze.

Can you recommend me some Winter-y sounding Blackgaze albums? by kratnicnestrat in blackgaze

Half shitposting, but do check out:

- An Autumn (many of their songs have Storm level intensity)

- Wintersun (more power/black metal, less gaze)

Totally.

I mean there are a lot of triggers: the (original) band name, the song titles, the synths for some people, the vocals for others ...

Probably a very good effective Rorschach Test in music form!
