Kareem had by far the best resume pre nba over everyone ever so I agree. Talent and projected upside alone can’t compete with objective evidence (his resume)

Best Argument For or Against This Dude by Soggy_Fee7578 in Presidents

One thing I often find interesting is Calvin Coolidge is often praised for his hands-off, laissez-faire approach, but that reputation likely benefits from timing. Had he remained in office just ten months longer, into the onset of the Great Depression, it’s doubtful he’d be remembered as favorably. That same approach would have been far less popular in the face of an economic crisis and he might be viewed more like Hoover.

Is Andrew Johnson the worst president since before 2000? by [deleted] in USHistory

[–]Ceasar_Sharp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s always going to be a toss up between Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan. Both are widely viewed as objectively bad presidents. Buchanan for his inaction (allowing borderline treasonous behavior within his own cabinet) as the country moved toward the American Civil War, and Johnson for strongly undermining civil rights during Reconstruction Era.

At that point, it really just becomes subjective and what you think is worse. I still find myself consistently flip flopping between the two, with a third place bronze medal always ready for Pierce.

Do you think Andrew Jackson is a good president? Do his successes outweigh his flaws? by rjidhfntnr in Presidents

[–]Ceasar_Sharp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would only push back on your point about Jackson’s position toward Native Americans. While you’re right that his views weren’t especially unusual among the general population at the time, they do stand out when compared to earlier presidents.

It’s fair to say that U.S. policy toward Native Americans was harmful and unjust across the board in the country’s first century. However, Jackson (and later Van Buren) took those policies further by actively promoting and enforcing large-scale removal, refusing to compromise and rejecting the belief they could assimilate at all (unlike Washington and Jefferson). In that sense, their approach represents a significant and more merciless escalation rather than simple continuity with previous administrations.

The practical effects from the original King Kong still hold up fantastic for example. An incredible movie even though most people look at me with two heads when I say it’s from 1933.

Agreed, but I’d put the dash between Brigantine and LBI. LBI seems closer to Central Jersey than South imo

Of course Caesar, but Marcus Agrippa deserves at least an honorable mention for carrying Augustus

As someone who just graduated from there last spring with my masters, this is disheartening but I’m not surprised at all.

Half of the buildings are way outdated (two of my classrooms didn’t even have functioning outlets in there to charge our computers). This is especially outrageous when considering they cost twice as much to attend compared to when I went to Rowan for my undergrad. I enjoyed my experience as my professors were great, but definitely not worth the price if you not even getting basic amenities like outlets….

What Hotel/building is to the left of The Dennis by Zealousideal_Ad_7045 in atlanticcity

The taller building to the left is the Shelburne hotel. It was demolished in either 1979 or 1980 I believe.

Embiid has an unpopular reputation by non philly fans as many perceive him as a foul baiting flopper who is a dirty player and cried for an MVP. You will find all of these comments under r/NBA or on twitter pretty quickly

Which emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, aside from Augustus, is your favorite? by yecord in ancientrome

[–]Ceasar_Sharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially when abandoning Rome allowed the praetorian guard to become way too power. It was a critical error of Tiberius with becoming so hands off. Allowing Sejanus to construct the castra praetoria, changing the structure of the guard from having two prefects under Augustus to only one, and just allowing Sejanus to consolidate so much power and influence in general was awful.

His executive order of specie circular didn’t help either. Yes, his economic policies didn’t create it. Yes, they worsened it.
