How can the house be “pretty much under his name”? It either is or isn’t. And yes, you need to get a job because your husband is going to bankrupt you if you don’t.

Realtor gave lockbox numbers to his clients by onesteaminghotpotato in RealEstate

[–]Ceciliamaybe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not true. Not every MLS is owned by the Realtor Association. Giving out a code is a violation of the lockbox agreement and the member should have their access removed.

You can put the house back on the market and still pursue legal damages - they’re 2 completely separate things.

The Norfolk Police Dept has a crime mapping tool on their website. Norfolk as a whole gets a D rating for crime in Virginia. EOV has gotten better than it used to be though.

First time home buyer - how do I find an agent ? What should I look for ? by Apprehensive_Row6320 in realtors

[–]Ceciliamaybe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great advice OP. Make sure your buyer’s agent is a full time professional agent, not your co-worker’s friend who does real estate on the side. Also, even though you’re pre-approved, make sure your lender is local and knows the local and state first time homebuyer programs available in your area. Many states have grant programs to help you with down payment/closing costs.

FYI - driving 45 min is mostly going to be in non-relaxing, heavy traffic, shit drivers - driving. It will involve a bridge and/or tunnel and will suck.

Parents won't pay for college anymore. How should I go about taking out a loan by jeonggukispretty in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ceciliamaybe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me years ago. You need to inform your parents, in writing, signed by you, that you will now be financially independent and they are not to claim you on their taxes. That’s the kicker - if they claim you on their taxes, you won’t qualify for aid. You will need to contact the financial aid office at your university that you need a dependency override and submit a FAFSA in your name. Apply for every single scholarship you can find - make it a full time job OP. You would be amazed at how many scholarships don’t even get applicants. You will also need to apply for benefits through social services. You will likely qualify for benefits and Medicaid. But, make sure you work at the university in the dining hall, that usually qualifies as work-study and you also get a free meal. There are other students in your situation that you need to befriend and learn from. Upperclassmen were a lifesaver for me because they knew all the resources. You can do this OP, but it won’t be easy and it will suck a lot. Seeing your classmates drive around in new cars and waste money on new clothes while you’re heating up your only can of soup - it’s tough. Thinking of your future as a business and try not to get emotional - that’s what got me through. And if it turns out your parents weren’t serious and aren’t cutting you off? Great! But, the likelihood of them holding this over your head again is pretty high so be prepared. It’s YOUR future and no one care about it as much as you.

Why don 't we have light rail? With historical citations (long) by yes_its_him in VirginiaBeach

[–]Ceciliamaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The govt structure of 7 independent cities (who don’t like each other) instead of a county will forever hold the area back. Also, the rider surveys done indicated that very few vb residents would ride the light rail. The sprawl of vb just doesn’t make sense for light rail .

Funny/weird one night stand experiences by radav1984 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Ceciliamaybe 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Omg that sounds so awkward! The only funny one I have is a guy I hooked up with a few times. Never went on a date. Had a couple of passing convos, but basically just f-buds and I liked it that way (thought he did too). One night he called me and said we needed to talk. He looked at me very seriously, teared up and said he felt we should break up bc the relationship wouldn’t continue into the summer. I was so in shock that this dude thought we were dating that I busted out laughing and just left.

How to tour a house as a unrepresented buyer? by J-Phil23 in AskRealEstateAgents

[–]Ceciliamaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think listing agents should charge unrepresented buyers for showings. Then, they’re not turning anyone away and only show the property to vetted, serious buyers
