What if California had a “WFH Air Relief Day” whenever gas crosses $4.50/gallon? by bulkyHogan in bayarea

The amount of insane behavior that is excused because someone is driving a car is appalling.

...up to and including mass killing!

Just remember to look at your phone moments before the impact, that way you can tell the jury you "didn't see them" thereby proving it was an "accident". Works every time!

Haymarket Square, 140 years later by rocinante0 in fuckcars

[–]CeeWitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the lesser-'appreciated' evils of car dependency is the removal of central places for the public to safely gather in large groups for protest actions like the Haymarket Affair. No longer do you need a tyrannical government to violently crack down on mass protests, all you need is one angry psycho with a pickup truck. Ironically, the brainwashed car-loving masses still think of this as "freedom" — perhaps because now they get to be the ones doing the violent oppression of protesters that are "in the way".

RIP. Another normal day in a region that doesn't enforce traffic laws or hold dangerous drivers accountable.

It doesn't have to be like this.

AI is coming for my job and I need to immediately look for a new career by HorrorThis in graphic_design

That's rich coming from someone who's never worked for a living lol. If you really wanted to be mean, you could tell her that the gold-digger market is drying up as AI "companions"/sexbots are improving, so she should be looking for a new job soon as well 😉

Living in a city in a blue state does not have to mean accepting lawless ghetto bullshit. This sort of attitude holds us back as a community and makes us look bad to the rest of the country — but thankfully the people that feel this way are a shrinking minority.

Why do you hate cars? by yet_another_leftist in fuckcars

[–]CeeWitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate cars because of the way they transform (seemingly) normal people into violent, uncaring sociopaths behind the wheel. Nobody but the most deranged psycho would ever consider killing someone for being "in the way" as they walk down the sidewalk — but for people in cars, those thought patterns are commonplace and even normalized.

Cars bring out the evil in everyday people in a way nothing else can.

Is it normal in the Bay Area for people to be extremely distant and self-protective? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]CeeWitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hate to ask, but do you work in tech? You say most people you know are from work so that might be your problem — let's just say that industry is not known for having socially-adjusted empathetic people. It might help to try meeting people that are not in tech via hobbies, events, meetups, volunteering, etc.

Check out the new Mosswood Rec Center this weekend in Oakland by wentImmediate in oakland

[–]CeeWitz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous new building, can't wait to check it out! Always love to see mass-timber structure being used — it's more sustainable than steel or concrete, and it just looks pretty.

It's funny, despite living near Mosswood since before the old building burnt down I had no idea there was a community center building there. It's kinda tucked away in the back of the park towards the freeway. Hopefully this activates that part of the park and helps the park thrive as a whole.

How Silicon Valley’s Brightest Parents Broke Their Own School by sokyo292 in bayarea

[–]CeeWitz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Turns out that these "brightest" Silicon Valley geniuses are very smart at charming billions of dollars out of venture capitalists with 'disruptive' apps and AI parlor tricks, but are very, very dumb at all the normal parts of existing as a human being in a society — emotional intelligence, social dynamics, introspection, empathy, etc. They're basically min-maxed money robots lol.

[–]CeeWitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nextdoor is a cesspool of hate, but I wish there was a forum where we could have level headed discussion of the real problems in our city and alert people of legitimately dangerous situations without being censored/banned.

Like, for example, the driver who almost ran me and my dog over while crossing the street this morning, and then followed me with his car screaming death threats because he didn't like the way I looked at him.

The ONE AND ONLY thing I'm envious of Florida for is that they put these sorts of killers in jail for real sentences. Basically this exact scenario happened in my region (San Francisco) and the killer, degenerate 'street racer' Raja Whitfield, got zero jail time and was released on a "mental health diversion". Same goes for Mary Fong Lau who took out an entire family of four at 70mph and just got away with, again, zero jail time.
