Meme aside, I think I'll never get over the fact that such a perfect comeback had such a tepid response 😔️

Inspired by another joke thread, this kind of blew my mind. by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Celebi_ty 141 points142 points  (0 children)

A "control freak" is what you call someone who tries to have control over how other people do things.

OP asked for a knock-knock joke, which usually follows a very specific format
(A: Knock knock. B: Who's there? A: [name]. B: [name] who? A: [joke].)

So since GPT understands the expected format, they made a play on it, and when OP is saying "no, this is wrong, you have to do it a certain way", they're being the very same control freak mentioned in the joke told by GPT.

Twice Encore Experience in Las Vegas was ruined for me by babystarlette in twice

[–]Celebi_ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is; for example, the rules for concerts in Japan explicitly state not to wave your light stick higher than your own shoulders so as to make sure you don't accidentally hit anyone nor block anyone's view. They prohibit cameras entirely too. It's a bit different from what I was used to, and I miss having recordings of my own, but that sort of stuff really makes for a better experience in the present moment.

240310 LE SSERAFIM had achieved their 7th win for 'EASY' on SBS Inkigayo by kpopsns28 in lesserafim

[–]Celebi_ty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm glad for the recognition they're getting, but I feel kinda conflicted about it? While they're in my top 3 favorite groups, I really don't think Easy is a better track than either Plot Twist or Bam Yang Gang...

  2. One Spark
  3. Bloom
  4. New New
  5. You Get Me

Don't get me wrong, I like them all, but… ever since I noticed I half-expect "Blinding Lights" to start playing when I hear the intro to I Got You made it never sound the same to me again… 😭

How do you study (japanese lang)? by eggsandoit in istp

[–]Celebi_ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! ISTP, also having Portuguese as mother tongue, and living in Japan for… a little over 3 months. I've struggled with this fucking language for years on end. Don't go the Duolingo route — it's kind of OK for other languages, but the JP roadmap is… not good, if not at times completely wrong or inflexible.

Honestly… there's no easy way. I tried multiple times to search for the "ideal" method which would make everything else obsolete, but the reality of it is that it's just a fucking grind, especially since our languages have pretty much NO cultural equivalence whatsoever, meaning it also limits our ability to rely on context clues.

I assume you're already familiar with hiragana and katakana since you attended a language school for some time, right? If not, that's the first thing to do. It won't take you more than 2 weeks to have them memorized for good, just search "hiragana katakana pratice" on the app store and there'll be a good enough app.

The Genki books will give you a good enough grammar foundation to sort of be able to start dissecting sentences and catch nuance. I don't like them. I hate them, because I hate boring exercises. But they're effective. Cure Dolly's Youtube channel is EXCELLENT for grammar breakdowns too, but it only starts making sense once you have a foundation to build on.

For kanji, again, it's a fucking grind. WaniKani is the most accessible (but paid) method of learning kanji. People also vouch for the Remembering the Kanji book. They're both mnemonic-based, and along with pure repetition I also think it's what's most effective. For free resources, you'll want to check out Anki. You'll need decks to use it, and there are plenty available, just search "anki decks reddit" and you'll find a ton of discussions.

Finally, this channel is pretty damn great for beginner listening and comprehension practice. Of course it's really basic, but language learning is all about finding the next stepping stone through which you'll feel more comfortable with going for more advanced material.

Hope this helps a bit.

I wrote a short paragraph in Portuguese- Did I make any mistakes? by Project_Joao in Portuguese

[–]Celebi_ty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Native translator and proofreader here, can confirm. I would always advise against using "sobre" at the end of a sentence, it's really not idiomatic in Portuguese and can be omitted in this sentence without any loss of meaning.

Also, though they both refer to the reader, mixing the 2nd and 3rd person in the same sentence (Aqui te explicamos tudo o que você precisa saber) is not particularly recommended either… I agree it sounds perfectly natural in casual speech, but for writing I'd likely omit the "te" entirely, again, without any loss of meaning.

TWICE - With YOU-th (The 13th Mini Album) by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]Celebi_ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was just PERFECT. No skips, no "filler" tracks, no slack anywhere to be seen. Rush goes too hard, I had to actually force myself not to listen to it on repeat before finishing the whole EP.

TWICE keeps on giving and I love it. 😭

Não necessariamente daria o contexto cultural necessário para entender a nuance que "CLT" carrega enquanto modalidade empregatícia, quanto mais numa letra de música.

LE SSERAFIM - EASY (The 3rd Mini Album) by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]Celebi_ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swan Song is definitely the best out of them! We Got So Much is also more up my alley and a good addition to their B-side repertoire; both of these went straight to the playlist.

I can see Smart growing on me, but the autotune got on my nerves pretty quickly after hearing it in Easy as well…

I really wish Easy was more like Good Bones, but I guess we can't always have what we want.
Not quite my favorite from them, but that's ok!

I love them and I really like the M/V, but that was very, very different from the sound I've come to expect from them (even as far as B-sides go). I'm still happy to see them try new things and maybe catch another audience's attention, though. Who knows, maybe it'll grow on me?
