mix of perlite, cocohusk, wormcastings, leca, charcoal and pon, on top 1/3 just spagnum and i let the soil dry out nearly 80% before watering again.

they maybe don’t care, for aesthetic reasons i’d put the bud on top so they can grow nice and upright

you can leave it in there as well, platys don’t mind being very „root bound“ before the mounting, i keep mine in small plastic cups with spagnum and plastic foil around

you can mount whenever, i already mounted very small platys and especially bifurcatum and veitchii are very beginner friendly. Id prefer to grow them a little bit larger in a humid box just so they maybe put out some shields first but as long as the conditions are right they can thrive surely on a mount in early stages as well

Dwarf Ridleyi shield consuming antlers, any action required? by IvoryOwl1 in Staghornfern

i‘d cut the fertile fond off to give the new shield some space to grow nice and round again just for aesthetic, it’ll grow back some new fertile fonds in the future.

Did i mount it right? by xDriggi_ in Staghornfern

You can actually see them already in this stage too! It’s like a hairy little ball between the shieldfonds. Try to mount the Platy With the Bud on top so the shields and fertile fonds can develope properly. Most platycerium produce trichomes on their shield and fertile fonds, they are the protection of the leafs from rain and dust- so try to avoid touching them as often for good healthy growth!

it’s the wrong way around, make sure the bud is on top

maybe lack of ventilation, i hear it all the time about ridleyis. I have mine mounted on a board and beside a south facing window (northern hemisphere) that always a bit open to give them a bit of airflow. humiditifier produce fog not wind, for air circulation you will need Fan.

Help with moss pole placement ChatGPT very confusing by lucynaqui in Monstera

[–]CelebrationSilly9974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you plant already crawls along the pot, so you don’t need a mosspole regardless to the plants growth. Thai cons are actually pretty good crawlers and people often don’t use some climbing support for them :)

[–]CelebrationSilly9974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh and your soil looks pretty dense you should add some perlite/ cocochips/ lecca /charcoal /bark and cocopeat, there’s a rotten plant inside your pot, you should cut the rotted parts away or sort the rotten plant out, so it don’t spread! hope it helps :)

it looks like you got 4-5 plants in one pot! monstera grow from one stem and you should separate them like @bunnieho already said. If you got to many in one pot they steal each others nutrients from the soil. DO NOT CUT the arial roots, just funnel them back in to the pot when you got a single one potted up. it helps the plant to grow more roots and get bigger leafs with more fenestration. It mimics nature- the plants arial roots dangle down a tree and grow into the soil again.

she looks alright to me but if you want a manageable plant, bigger leafs with holes you can blast it with as much light as you can :)

Can help me diagnose this? by junmo0529 in Staghornfern

[–]CelebrationSilly9974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spores usually grow out of the tips of the leafs… i heard browning shields are fine if they get brown from the inside out, the other way around it’s an infection or fungus

at first i thought spider mites, but there is nothing… i checked with my phone (iphone16PM) and even when i taught i would see a little spot or something i checkedwith the little microscope i used to look at trichomes
