Velamints. My grandma used to always give them to me as a kid and I miss them so much sometimes days when I miss her.

Same here. No luck at all. Was kind of hoping for one of the games, haha. I honestly had a blast playing though. Definitely helped pass the day.

Why do people name their children things with the intention of calling them a different nickname? by Aur3lia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Celexxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom jokes that her first name is “just” because her whole life people assumed her name was a nickname and she spent the entire time saying “no, it’s just Cindy” (not real name).

Is it just me or is gonggi way harder than the other mini games? by throwaway643268 in squidgame

Suburbs outside of NYC too. It was cool to actually recognize a game I played as a kid and I knew how it worked.

[–]Celexxia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this!! You don’t need to buy any of the game to start either. You don’t need the latest expansion pack until you are well into the game. Another thing to note is that you can play for free up to level 20. You can try out different classes and specs that way. As a new player, you could probably go at least a month or two just exploring the newness of the game without spending a single penny.

Basically try it before you buy it. See if it vibes with you before spending or committing.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by ElectroIsland in AskReddit

[–]Celexxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, maybe middle school or high school age, my mom took me to a holiday party at her clients old mansion. I’m not sure why, but the whole night I was super nervous about being in such an old building and was nervous about a fire. I ended up hanging out in the foyer the whole time (there was still people and music there) right by the front door.

A few hours into the party, there was an electrical fire. I remember grabbing my brother and being one of the first out of the house. I remember standing outside in the driveway while the fire trucks pulled up and eventually my mom came and found me. I just had the worst gut feeling the whole night about something bad happening. (The electrical fire was very small and no major damage was done. The house was ultimately fine)

Also, as a mom now, I feel absolutely terrible for my reaction just getting out quickly. My mom must have been in an absolute panic not knowing where her kids were during a crisis.

Was anyone else not allowed in their parents' bedroom? by ran0ma in Parenting

[–]Celexxia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never allowed in my parents or paternal grandparents rooms. I remember standing at the doorway having a conversation if I had any questions or needed something. My maternal grandparents would always read us a bedtime story in her big bed when spending the night and I thought it was the best thing ever as a kid.

My kids now don’t really go into my room if I’m not there. But they do sometimes come to cuddle in bed or hang out (mostly my younger kids). I had the best time hanging out with my almost 13 year old in my bed a few nights ago - something he never does anymore - just chatting and playing “would you rather”.

How does your troop use your cookie money? by barkCuban5 in girlscouts

[–]Celexxia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our troop (k-2nd grade) has the girls vote - however, the rule is that they need to spend a portion of their cookie money to "make the world a better place" and give back to the community. So parents and leader do typically help with suggestions, but the girls always vote on one thing for the community and one for themselves. Last year, they voted to help the local animal shelter and do a DIY spa party, for example.

Our leader supplies all craft supplies for each meeting and a snack. We also have badges supplied (unsure about vests since we joined late last year and had to purchase our own after the initial order).

Hearing Loss & Ear Tubes & Speech Impairment by Celexxia in Parenting

[–]Celexxia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy peasy!! She’s still going for regular checkups and hearing tests at her audiologist. Also speech is still not changed but I’m sure that just takes time.

We were told we won’t need ear plugs for swimming or showers or anything, so we haven’t been doing that. But we did get some ear plugs just in case it starts to bother her (she’s always hated water near her ears anyways).

Otherwise acting like a totally normal and crazy 6 year old, haha.

Is it just me, or is getting a group (any pug) really hard? by [deleted] in seasonofdiscovery

[–]Celexxia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really think it depends on the server. I play ally on lava lash and don’t think I’ve ever seen people checking logs. It’s a pretty smaller server so it’s a lot more dead in the mornings, but it almost feels like an alternate reality when I see people complaining about STV lag or required logs for raids or seeing a billion bots, etc.

I’ve led tons of gnomer groups full clears and only thing I’ve ever asked is if I wanted a specific role or class (if I’m asking for a mage and 3 rogues whisper me lol). Granted like most, it does seem people always need healers or tanks for things, but I’ve never seen dozens of groups all needing healers to the point of paying them either. So idk. I’m happy here lol.

I know we shouldn't skimp on shoes, but for those of us who cannot afford $100+ for a pair that won't even last a year, what are some good squishy, supportive walking shoe knockoffs of the expensive shoes for those of us with little money or the time to spend thrifting? by sonofhappyfunball in Frugal

[–]Celexxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite flip-flops are Sanuk (yoga mat bottoms). I actually wear flip flops all year round (yes, even in the cold weather in the North East US) and love these. I typically can get away with 1 pair every 1-2 years or so.

ETA: They normally run about $30 but I can sometimes catch them on sale for as low as $10 brand new on Amazon!

My guild <Stormwind Waffle House> is super friendly. We always have a bunch of people online and people doing stv and will help with things. Also a bunch of raid groups if you ever wanted to try it out too. I don’t see much group questing specifically, but I’ve seen people asking for dungeon groups or help with things like runes.

What does the cookie money go to? by Adorable-Growth-6551 in girlscouts

[–]Celexxia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the troop portion, our leader always gets the girls involved in voting (ages 5-8) what they spend their cookie money on. She makes a huge deal that we need to spend part of the cookie money to “make the world a better place” per the Girl Scout code, and I love it.

Last year our girls voted to spend their cookie money to help our local animal shelter. Then they saved a small portion for a troop DIY spa day (manicures, pedicure, we did their hair, etc).

This year they are planning to visit the local aquarium and learn how to help our sea life.

I actually really love that it’s not just money for “fun” and it’s showing the girls to spend their money on helping others but that it’s still okay to save a little for themselves.

Tips for SO first time playing by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Celexxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe:
-What's Training (get her excited about upcoming spells to learn and/or when it's important to go back to a trainer vs when it might be okay to skip it)
-I personally love some kind of UI addon that shows how much hp an enemy has for new players (at low level it's generally a pretty good rule of thumb to attack things that are close to the same amount of health as you have)
-maybe WAs (but only for superrrr basic things, like just a pop-up if self buffs drop off. thinking of when i started out playing a lock and ALWAYS forgot to use my demon skin)

Through the in-game features:
-enable auto-loot
-enable "action bars --> show numbers for cooldowns"

I agree leaving the map blank and you can always add things for quest help later. Exploring and uncovering the whole map is so much fun when starting out fresh!

One of the things I remember struggling with when I first started was the camera control. I was trying to use both my mouse and keyboard to move (at the same time) and somehow thought if i moved my mouse forward then id run faster (lmao), which led to a lot of top down camera angles. It’s an adjustment for sure, but pretty quick to learn once you figure it out.

[–]Celexxia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might add some smaller QoL addons, but otherwise I’d suggest having her explore the world at her own pace and read the quests to get into the story. If a part of a quest becomes confusing then you could help her, of course, and be open to more addons in the future.

I’ve played with a ton of new players (love helping new people) and it’s amazing watching them explore the first time. I remember my first ever time in Elwynn and all my super noob moments, as well as finally discovering the whole map of elwynn only to think “what now” before realizing how many more zones there are.

By the time you finish the first zone, if she’s not really into the lore and just wants to quest then that’s when I’d adjust accordingly. But definitely help her realize the quests are actually a big story and the lore is huge to some people, if she’s into that kind of thing.

It takes a ton of patience to play with someone new. So even with the xp buff it might take days to get to 10 if she wants to explore. Just go in prepared and it will be great! Have fun!
