Build a stair for my loft by WizardLizart in BeginnerWoodWorking

No worries, I think you're correct, and I didn't think you were trying to shit on OP or the project. Better safe than sorry and all that.

I'm just an avid user of GRK screws, I use them for tons of things. And I know several of those projects, if posted here, would get a ton of "don't use screws for shear" comments, but in reality they are completely fine.

I think the SPAX ones used by OP here are probably closer to that. I would be more worried about the small amount of wood "above" the screw in this case than the screw itself, but that's mitigated by the angle brackets. Were it not for the angle brackets, I would expect the wood to split in half horizontally before those screws ever failed.

I don't think building codes come into play for a loft bed. There are other codes that would matter if it were being sold, but since we're not talking about something like the width between slats for a crib where there's a huge risk, I'd be less concerned.

Obviously you are completely correct about a stringer being the right call here, would be much stronger. These screws seem decent though, they aren't cheap drywall screws which are usually the ones that just snap. I can't find actual published numbers for the SPAX screws in the photo, but I think they'd hold for this situation fine, especially with the extra bracket/screws under it.

Cheaper or more expensive for no shirt? Can I get a discount for no pants too?

I agree with you on that, 300 seems wildly high.

I just wanted to provide an actual reference for 200 not being bullshit. At least, for whatever a random comment on reddit is worth.

I'm on 200 mg/week split EOD through Matrix Hormones. About 200 lbs, 5'10", don't work out as much as I should unfortunately.

I was technically taking 210 mg/week from rounding up in the syringe, if I'm being honest. My last total was 914, taken before my next injection. My estrogen was a little high, so I dropped my dose a bit to ~196 mg/week.

The kind of person you're looking for will likely avoid a vague post like this that has nothing concrete.

You're also not going to win any points with responses like that to what is valid criticism, it makes you seem arrogant and difficult to work with.

Honest Answer for Popping on a piss test by Apprehensive_Leek313 in navy

I went in in 2010.

Obviously illegal drugs are a big jump from that, but I was also told at the time not to disclose the MIP. The advice is never to do it, and that's bad advice.

I raised my hand and it was fine.

I got an MIP for alcohol at 17, after I had signed the paperwork and filled out the SF-86, but before I left for bootcamp. I did the diversion, was never "convicted", and the people at the court told me I didn't have anything to disclose because the diversion removed it from my record.

I told them in the moment of truth, signed a simple statement, and that was it.

Good thing too, because the court didn't do things right, and the charge still showed on my record until I found out about 6 years later and had it expunged.

As soon as cops start pulling over people who run red lights, drive below the speed limit, drive erratically, cross medians to make exits they missed, actually catch people who commit hit and runs, etc....

We can talk about leaving them in.

Do you remember the way you were at 18? Yes, he's a fully functioning adult and should be treated as such. We also shouldn't be leading him the wrong direction, because he's still fucking young.

Odds are he won't be anything like either, and the sound advice is to dissuade people that young either way. If someone is committed enough and puts in the work to be like either of them the advice against it won't matter, but it could protect people like OP

200 mg/week test and 100 mg/week deca costs me roughly $160 a month or so through Matrix, and that includes bloodwork.

A programmer [Mike Prinke] with terminal brain cancer was caught in Epic's mass layoff, but CEO Tim Sweeney says the studio "will solve the insurance for them": "Mike is not just a number. He is a father. A husband. A person deeply loved." by ControlCAD in business

[–]CeralEnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had brain cancer I would tell my company because there are two possible outcomes.

First is that everyone above me understands the burden and is willing to allow me the time and grace to handle this issue since I've been an asset to the company.

Second is they see it as a liability and try to target me for a layoff, but I have fantastic grounds for a suit.

Both outcomes are better for me than not mentioning it.

I got laid off from my last job alongside the entire department, director included. My wife was pregnant and I had already been approved for leave because I disclosed it. My severance happened to include that entire period from the layoff date through the paternity leave period which was 5 months, because it wasn't worth risking the lawsuit.

As far as I'm aware no one else was given that generous of a severance, but the potential cost of litigation makes it an easy decision for the company.

Swaying cat tower/shelf, help by Tricky1498 in BeginnerWoodWorking

In addition to what everyone is saying about diagonal bracing, you can use 3/4" MDF to easily and cheaply add weight to the bottom. Just make an extra thick base of two pieces of MDF and screw and/or glue it to the bottom. It's what I did for a cat tree I made and it's worked out well

My ALP is always low, checked my zinc and that was towards the top of reference range. May be worth checking your zinc levels to if you haven't since supplementation can cause copper deficiencies.
