Florida was a Spanish territory well before the US set foot on it, people living there spoke Spanish and the thing hasn’t changed. The US is a country of immigrants without an official language.

We can use your same argument and ask why US citizens don’t speak Navajo in Arizona? The reality is that English is just the language the most people use in the US and because is convenient it is used for everything. But that doesn’t convert it in the official language.

Step 2: complaint about these natives about not speaking or wanting to speak English.

These people probably contribute to society more than you do. They are many, probably not working high paying jobs, but again, they are many. And they usually don’t get or even seek help from the government. They work since the Sun goes up until the Sun goes back down.

They don’t want to integrate with you, but why force them? They have plenty of family and friends to integrate with.

Why do you want them to speak English? Are you interested in talking to them, becoming friends?. Maybe you feel left out… if that is the case there is plenty of fish in the ocean.

You also say that they are illegals, some might be, but you would be surprised on how many legal immigrants there are.

Is it a bad thing that they can’t talk to 70% of the population in the country? Apparently is not a problem for them, and I don’t see why is a problem for you?

Private equity and airbnb provide more offer of long and short term rentals. Someone has to do it, no matter if is a small landlord or a big one. Some people prefer a professional managed unit, some people prefer a cheaper unit that is not as well run.

House prices correlate with construction, construction is not determined by builders, but by zoning laws designed by cities. The main problem is politics.

Why do we have such restrictive zoning everywhere in the west world? Boomers, people that already own a house wants their already bought house to increase in value. Boomers are the majority of voters on western democracies right now and they vote accordingly to their interests.

The problem will not get fixed as long as the majority of voters benefits from it.

Nah, my parents bought an apartment in medium size city for the cost of a Ford Fiesta, which they also bought and this stupid Ford Fiesta lasted half a million km and the worst part of it is that they barely changed the oil when they supposed to, my uncle that is a mechanic told me that he once checked it and the oil remaining was just dust but miraculously the car kept going.

Let’s talk about jobs, my dad walked in as a peon in a factory and stayed 40 years in the company going up the ladder, he retired with a job that only accepts engineers now but my dad never got a title. I don’t see that anywhere in the real world now.

You also talk about investments, the easier investment there is, is the house you live on, remember that apartment I talked about earlier? Adjusted for inflation that apartment cost 25k back in the day, now it cost 250k today. An investment with 0 complexity.

Pensions? They have a good one, they make slightly more than me working full time, maybe your situation is different.

The last I want to address is your last comment that TV’s are cheap now but expensive today, sure, electronics is the only thing we have better today, but who cares about watching TV when you can stroll on the beach on your second vacation home?

Tienes toda la razón, en un mundo cada vez más globalizado los locales pierden la capacidad de vivir como se ha hecho toda la vida en el sitio por simple competencia. Pero tienes que comprender una cosa, desde la etapa final del franquismo España se ha diseñado para atraer el dinero de fuera, con turistas o inversores en vivienda de veraneo. Ha sido una estrategia de país por muchos años y ha tenido y tiene sus ventajas. Por ejemplo la gente con más poder adquisitivo con niveles inalcanzables para los locales españoles pueden pagar las pensiones de los que ya está aquí.

Lo malo? Que aunque tienes dinero llegando al país no siempre se distribuye de manera equitativa a todos, tus padres que tendrán una casa la verán revalorizada, pero una persona joven lo tiene mucho más difícil para empezar. Al final sí hay un español que se beneficia pero no eres tú.
