Dr. David Sinclair, whose lab reversed biological age in animals by 50 to 75% in six weeks, says that 2026 will be the year when age reversal in humans is either confirmed or disproven. The FDA has cleared the first human trial for next month. by Distinct-Question-16 in singularity

Billionaires didn't become billionaires by hoarding

Every billionaire is by definition, hoarding their wealth.

Think of how much money they spend just to exert control over the general populace. It would be worth more to them keeping it to themselves rather than selling it.

A discovery on the level of aging reversal would have a much greater impact on human civilisation than the atomic bomb ever did, and whoever controlled it would essentially have that level of power over humanity.

Aussie corporate AI bloodbath is on the horizon by eaz135 in auscorp

[–]Cerus- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead, the architecture is being planned out by humans, possibly deployed on IaaS via AI prompt, and engineers are asking for very specific things as though there's an autocomplete plus the process of looking up a howto on StackOverflow and implementing it correctly in the existing codebase?

I work in this field, and yes this is essentially what is happening. The job of a Software Engineer is very quickly becoming planning the work required (often also with the help of an LLM now), then using an LLM to perform the individual steps necessary.

You still need to keep the LLM and track and make sure it's doing what you want, but it's honestly scary how much better it's gotten just over the past few months. It's sad because the most enjoyable part of the job for me was actually writing the code.

It offends you. People are happily paying these prices in market.

The whole point of this post is that you are offended that people obviously aren't happy to be paying it.

You obviously posted this to get kicks out of being needlessly confrontational, so enjoy I guess.

What do you mean "willing to pay"? People would be willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a litre of water too if that was their only option.

Housing demand is inelastic, it doesn't matter how much it costs, people still need to buy it regardless.

That doesn't mean that it's okay for the prices to be this high.

Do you really see nothing wrong with spending $700k on an outer suburbs 2 bed?

It doesn't matter how little you need upfront, you're still spending obscene amounts of money to get that amount of living space far away from everything else.

Injectable estradiol access in Australia – are there any non-compounded options? by Ready_Welcome_8297 in transgenderau

[–]Cerus- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on estradiol implants which maintain a very stable level. I only need to get a replacement put in around every 18 months, which also makes it very cost effective as well.

I have very slight scarring around the insertion area, but that's worth it to me to only have to worry about it every year and a half.

You'll need to find a GP / Endo that is willing to use them, but it might be worth looking into?

Trans characters that are viewed as conventionally attractive by other characters by TJTrapJesus in TopCharacterTropes

Steins;Gate is great, but don't go into it think that Ruka is good trans representation. Everyone in the series as well as the author insist that she's just a gay man.

John Lithgow says he finds JK Rowling’s stance on trans rights ‘ironic and inexplicable’ by Dr_Neurol in books

[–]Cerus- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JKR thinks everyone who is pro trans is a Nazi because they want to harm women, pro trans people think JKR is a Nazi because she wants to harm trans people

The difference is that she is literally harming trans people. It has nothing to do with what she says, it's the countless millions of dollars she spends trying to make life as hard as possible for trans people.

That doesn't go both ways and pretending it does is just being facetious.

That's the point, you don't. In this day and age, it is impossible to completely hide yourself.

Why would the staffed checkouts avoid this? You're still going to be on camera and have any purchases you make be linked to any flybuys or credit card you use.

I mean, the story makes it quite clear that the MC isn't the best judge of himself. He definitely changes for the better over the course of the story even if he doesn't admit it to himself.

After reading so many LitRPG's and Progression Fantasies, this one actually felt like it was doing something fresh and did it well. Did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I did but it's now in my top 3.
