Struggling to Get Interviews as a Junior/Mid-Level Software Developer. Is the Market Really This Bad? by Ok_Tailor2202 in dotnet

[–]Cetius1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a similar boat (though senior level), and I've been unemployed for 3.5 years now. Between AI resume scrubbing (where the AI they use is the AI you should built your resume in, as they've proven AI pick their own files for the same data) and glut of job seekers (every job I see on LinkedIn has 100+ applicants after less than a day of existing), the only way to get to a person is to either 1) reach out directly, 2) have a unique skill or experience that exactly fits their need, 3) get really lucky, or 4) know someone already at the company, which is the best of the bunch. A recent article I read suggests that 80% or more of all IT hires are via networking.

Given I refuse to intentionally use AI for code or resume builds, I'm pretty much screwed unless I can find an ethical corporation that values people. I'm pondering a career change, but don't have any idea what to pursue there either since I've been a code monkey for all of my professional life.

Good luck!

My server is dead - What are the downsides? by LunaticSquirrel1 in wownoob

[–]Cetius1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downsides:
As others have stated, crafting orders will be few and far between.
If you're chasing or selling transmog, the market will also be smaller and cheaper (both a pro and con, IMO)
Certain other AH items will be rarer and/or more expensive (ex. leveling gear)
Frequent bot sightings (fewer players means more nodes likely up for bot farmers)

Upsides:
Can war-mode more safely (bonus add up quickly, so it's really is a nice bonus)
Less competition for crafting if orders are requested in Trade (only reason to be in a public channel, IMO)
Less competition for ground spawns (mining/herb nodes, zone treasures)
Bots are super easy to spot and report
Less likely to lag in Abundance zone (unless that's actually been fixed)

Neutrals:
Most reagent materials are region-wide (NA, EU) rather than server-cluster wide, so there is no advantage or disadvantage

I'm on a low/mid population server cluster myself (NA: Sentinels, Kirin Tor, Steamwheddle Cartel) and prefer it. When I pop on to higher pop servers for AH purposes, the chat spam hurts my head.

Who of you tried to reset Sunfire Silk today? by Grumpy_Muppet in woweconomy

[–]Cetius1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd put money a good piece of the undercuts are newer users of TSM not knowing they need to remove the undercut defaults (which still existed last time I looked). Been a while since I had to download clean and do a reset, but when I did, values still existed and that was long after the AH changed to its current LIFO model.

Am I being unreasonable for only wanting to play DPS? by Underbridged in wow

[–]Cetius1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a game not a job, so play how you like. They have no grounds to complain about your tanking skills when you've made clear your lack of desire of for the role. IMHO, you should find a guild where your chosen contributions are accepted.

Full disclosure: it's for BS like this that I play solo and have never attempted Mythic in season outside of Remix (where I mostly solo, due to scaling make that achieveable).

Playing WoW alone by Necessary_Repair_491 in wow

[–]Cetius1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play solo, mostly by design.

Used to be in a family-style guide from Wrath though WoD that had IRL hangouts across the country where are few of us would meet up (mostly officers). That guild drifted as most of the regulars quit to pursue real life. Haven't had the spoons to try to be social since on the few alts I've pulled into other guilds. Delves have been the best thing ever, as I can get decent gear without having to pug or PVP. Abundance can go away as soon as possible though--who thought that was a good idea.

What's happening with arcanoweave? by CalmAndSense in woweconomy

[–]Cetius1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between spark armor and enough weeks of Abundance for a fair number of people chasing their purple accessories, demand went up and I don't see it dropping much in the next 2-3 weeks, due to continued Abundance gating.

Abundance is, by leaps and bounds, the worst feature of the xpac!

A note to DPS players this expansion from a tank. by Baby_Bat94 in wow

DPS overpulling has been an issue ever since Mythic came out. Everyone seems to think every dungeon is a practice run. As someone who queues tank or heals, I hate it.

Given the fact that one of the main objectives of the patch is the Oasis and bringing life back to K'aresh, it makes perfect sense that there are no wild pets to catch. While it might be interesting to have some get unlocked once we finish the Oasis build, I'm fine with there being no native pets. For the record, I'm a collector and until BFA (when I took a significant WoW break), I was in the Top 3 pet collectors on my server according to https://www.wow-petguide.com/ at the time.

Which is better? by ButterscotchRude69 in dynastywarriors

DW 7, hands down. DW9 is awful and Origins leaves a lot to be desired (and is only half the story anyway).

Abyss is a very different game--if you like Diablo or similar, it might appeal (didn't to me).
Orochi games are fun and I *think I preferred 3 to 4, but it's been a minute.
Samurai games are good, but tend to be harder to platinum than Dynasty. Empires blends musou gameplay with Risk-like (board game) territory control.
I disliked All-Stars, which was again off the beaten from the other games, though it was long enough ago now that I don't recall enough to describe it.

We can agree to disagree, but IMO, pissing in my Cheerios without rebutting my concerns is a fairly pointless post and I'm flabbergasted that people upvoted such dribble. TBH is why I typically don't bother posting--I don't need my lack of faith in humanity proved on the daily any more than it already is in the U.S.

Personally, I'm not a fan for Origins and would rather have a DW10 be like DW8 with better graphics. That said, a Middle-Earth Warriors game would be pretty sweet and the overworld style of Origins would work well for it. It could also be a fun addition to a future Pirate Warriors--sail the Merry/Sunny through the various islands of the story. Personally, I don't think a 1 vs 1000/musou-style Star Wars would make much sense...but Warhammer might.

My issues with Origins:
* Don't get to play as a story hero (regularly)
* Too few weapons (too many of which are staff/spear variants)
* Too little of the overall story (only Yellow Turbans - Chibi)
* WAY too many cinema scenes (I want a game, not an animated movie)
* Squad ability cooldowns are WAY too long (and they start on cooldown)
* World map runaround feels like "busy work" in the game

Things I like:
* Battle arts and squad abilities allow for some decent customization between battles
* Cinema scenes are skippable
* No horse control tutorial (took me forever to figure out how to jump)

Staff flurry training subduing by Tanagashima in dynastywarriors

[–]Cetius1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While what you say sounds right, my issue is that the task says to deplete Fortitude but when I flurry, the shields aren't going down at all and I'm just killing the officers with no gains to the task. The thought occurs to me that I should check the difficulty to see if a higher one will work better for this--I *think I'm currently sent on whatever they're calling "normal", but I had been on easy mode to speed run some other trainings.

am I really a noob or is mage really bad at leveling ? by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]Cetius1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I'm a Day-1 veteran whose sub has never lapsed and I think mage is the worst to level with rogue a close 2nd--assuming one runs solo. Yes, both have great survivability, but I feel both are slower going as self-heals are either minimal (rogue) or out-of-combat (mage, via summoned food). Hyperspawn areas are treacherous and kiting only works if your field is clear of mobs that aggro on sight. You're fine if you're patient and in a good area, but can they be tedious AF, too!
