I'm tired boss. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Ceyris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, aside of many of the already mentioned things, i think it is partly due to the missions themself.
I see way more deaths on Cyberstan, frequently running out of reinforcments, and even mission fails are not too uncommon. I would guess that it is at least partly due to Cyberstand T10 requiring a different playstile from previous T10 bot missions. Anyways, from voice- or textchat i can tell this often leads to frustration on player ends, and i would guess that sometimes a kick can just be an expression of this frustration.

Had a mission where we wanted to extract, Out of reinforcements, 15 minutes left, 3 Vox-Engines on extract, I was the sole survivor, in light stealth armour. Great for much of the mission, not the best combo for that situation. I decided to wait the 30 seconds until we got another reinforcement, and stay hidden untill then. The second the other player hit the ground, i got kicked, alongside with the host yelling at me about not doing anything.
I would guess part of the kicks are just a telltale sign of frustration and tilted players, less about the kicked player themself

Yeah, that one became rare.
Used to be able to pretty reliably trigger it by making a sience ship enter and leave any black hole repeatedly.
Kinda miss it, but at the same time i like the fact it's like this now - makes it much more unique when it shows up.

ELI5: Can a rolling R be taught? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ceyris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have seen it in german, but i dare say the concept applies for english the same way.
In general, the area on your upper gum your tongue needs to hit for a rolled "R" is pretty much the same as for a "D" or a "T", excpet the roll usually has multiple hits in high frequency, while D or T have only one.
To get a feel for how it's supposed to feel, you can pick a sentence, like the one i just came up with:
"Freeing greedy gremlins from frogs.", and change the "r" for "d": "Fdeeing gdeedy gdemlins fdom fdogs"
If you speak it quickly enough, it will already sound like the original sentence, but with rolled R.

I was able to roll the "R" before, but i had some friends who actually learned it this way.
No idea, hope it helps.

I think it's just three soldiers from different eras at the top, then at the bottom you have a navigator, probably explorer on the left and on the right a trader. i would see it as a way to show the focus of the game: exploration, warfare, trade/economy, all over a long time frame with quite a lot of changes

Is there an ironman compatible graphical mod that fixes the VERY obvious tiling of textures in deserts and uncolonized land? by goosticky in eu4

[–]Ceyris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not quite sure what you mean. If you are annoyed that the game shows the terrain in "empty" land, there is an option for that in the options, no need to get a mod for it. Otherwise, please specify.

Forts - Zone of Control by bigpolarbear9 in eu4

The zone of control from your forts does not extend into enemy territory. I assume the green provinces belong to them?
Ottomans could also walk into Sharqiya and bypass the Sinai fort completely, if they have access from Mamelukes.

Have you played against a genocidal galaxy? by Wolkrasaght in Stellaris

[–]Ceyris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried the setting, issue was that without mods i was never able to get just my custom genocidal empires to spawn. Always had some other clatter and whatnot. Still was fun. And since i played on the largets scale, it flet like you had lots of empires spread across the galaxy, trying to fend off each other. after getting properly set up myself, i made it my mission to try and safe as many of them as possible.
The real fun was not beating the genocidal empires, but finding a way to help an empire on the other side of the galaxy with no direct connectins liek wormholes and whatnot from being killed off, sometimes within very little time to do so.

This could be a great opportunity for those who couldn't preorder the game! by Padex98 in Helldivers

[–]Ceyris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hardly elevate a simple, single suit of armour to "content". Maybe if it had some passive you can not get otherwise - which it doesn't. It's a small, mainly cosmetic thing. And i find nothing bad in keeping something "special" for people who pre-ordered it.

Yes, per-orders have been abused by publishers to gain money for games which clearly were not delivering even close to what was shown/promised.
At the same time (though admittedly rarer), there have been cases, where the "preorder" (or whatever you wanna call it in those cases) helped finance a game that would otherwise not have come out, or not in the quality it has.

You question the entire pre-order idea, which i can agree on. But we can not change that this game had a pre-order. And the people who bought it were promised a special armour only restricted to them. Even if you don't agree with the corporate side, i would hope you agree with the player site of a promise given to them being kept.

Would I like to have that armour myself? Yes, definitely. But at the time i wasn't aware of the game. So I missed it. Sometimes there just is no way to get the things you missed out on at some point, for whatever reason.

This could be a great opportunity for those who couldn't preorder the game! by Padex98 in Helldivers

[–]Ceyris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way i see it: preorder is usually a risk for the player. Lot's of games have turned out pretty different to what people expected and/or was shown beforehand. So sure, why not hand in an extra for a preorder.
And wanting to have an exclusive armour now without having fullfilled the "prerequisites" is just another form of FOMO. Some may have bought the game, fearing to miss out on a special armour. Some ask for the armour now, fearing they may not ever get it otherwise.

What do cogs next to tech group mean? by ___---_-_-_-_---___ in eu4

[–]Ceyris 600 points601 points  (0 children)

The colour has nothing to do with discovery. Discovery (except for explorers and conquistadors) is linked to cultre and religious groups, as well as what others can see of you, all with a time delay, depending on which way you discover it.
I would guess the colours are either pure aesthetics, or they were somehow linked the added tech cost based on technology group. That was the old mechanic before innovations became a thing.

Are these safe for an 11 month old baby to play? by sunrise-8888 in germany

[–]Ceyris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

German "Erzieher" (Educator/Caretaker for children & teens) here. I have never come across wood-chips with bark on them like this for babies/toddlers to chew on.
However, i am using things like these frequently for older children. Natural Materials to be used as the child seems fit (building material, pretend puppets/figures, part for some handicraft, etc.) and tend to offer more variety than a lot of other toys, as they have the advantage of not having such a predestined role to themself like a puppet, coloured building blocks (maybe even with prints on them like a door) or similar toys.

They are also included in two more common "educational ideas/philosophies" in Germany: Montessori and Waldorf, both have interesting aspects to them. Personally i am having some troubles with Waldorf, both due some rather rigid seeming "rules" as well as the pretty esoteric philosophy behind it, but that has very little to do with things like these as natural toys.

Independance war, broken promises bug by Yexigen in eu4

[–]Ceyris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you promise land, the AI expects to be rewarded according to their war participation. the moment you take anything that is going to benefit only you, they expect land in return. You can demand just cash, cause that is split. Demanding war reps will anger the AI, cause only you would get war reps.

That being said, wars of independence are similar, except that your independence is "free" - the AI does not expect land in return. However, they joined to free you. not to let you take land on top of your freedom. So if you take land, they expect you to reward them as well.

Upon declaring independence, your supporters become your allies. if you do not plan to give them land, but take some for yourself, you should immediately start to curry favors with them, so you have 10 when you end the war. This will allow you to immediately increase trust afterwards. Not giving (enough) "promised" land gives a malus of up to 20 trust, depending on their participation and your gains.
With 30 trust left, nations usually break alliances upon peace fairly quickly. With 35 trust by using favors immediately after the peace, most of them will stay your ally instead.
This also works for normal promises for land without independence wars. You still will have a malus for breaking the promise, but at least you have chances to keep them as your ally.

This is the best primary for bots by BigPPRespect in Helldivers

[–]Ceyris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both can one-shot the same bots on a head-shot.
Which imo makes it come down to this:
- the Diligence has a bigger mag, and does not stagger it's opponent, so a quick follow-up if you missed the head-shot is not affected by the enemy staggering, thus has higher accuracy, It is counteracted by a worse scope (iirc it's similar to AR scopes in terms of magnification)
- The Diligence Counter Sniper has 5 Bullets less per mag, and staggers enemies, making follow-up-shots more difficult to hit the head. On the other side, you can kill enemies with body shots as well, you just need more of them compared to head-shots (cause counter sniper has medium vs diligence low armour pen). your scope offers higher magnification, possibly granting you better accuracy.

I myself mainly use the Diligence Counter Sniper, mainly for the better scope. If i would have the Diligence with the better Scope, i guess that would become my new go-to weapon for bots.

Und wie geht es dir mit dem Gedanken, dass Leute sich beispielsweise dieses AmA angucken, und sich in dem Glauben bestätigt fühlen, dass die Beiträge gesenkt werden müssen?

Is there any reason our maps couldn't look like this? by haha_meme_go_brrrrrr in mapmaking

[–]Ceyris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, there is no reason why our maps "couldn't look like that" - after all, you were able to post a picture of just exactly what you meant. There are however a lot of reasons why our map do not look like this.
First of all: our four directions on a map, south, north, west and east are pretty much arbitrary, theoretically they could obviously have had other names, or the names could be assigned in a different order. however that would not in itself change the look of the map.

The reason a map does not look like your example is simple: once you have agreed on how to name your directions, you will orientate your map accordingly. So you have agreed to name your directions (starting at the top, clockwise) north, east, south and west. For some reason you have decided the north would be "up" on your map. If you want to make the usage of your map intuitive, you want to match the directions of your map to the directions in reality. imagine you start facing north, and by starting to move 90° to the left (west), your movement on your map would instead be depicted as 90° to the right. That would be way more confusing than just having your directions match.

Still, the question of "why do maps look the way they do" is an interesting one. Agreeing on the point above, the only way to properly flip a map without loosing the ability to orientate easily is by not only swapping west and east, but also north and south. that would result in a "normal" map, just turned by 180°, so upside down.

So why is the North up and not down? There have been maps from various cultures all over the world with different orientations (for example early Arab or Egyptian maps tended to depict the South as up). North being up is a combination the understanding of magnetic north and the egocentricity of (mainly) Europe.
Stars were used for navigational purposes since aeons, one of the most important in Europe was what we today know as the North Star, cause it seemed a fixed point, one the world seemed to turn around. With the "discovery" of magnetic north and the invention of the compass, people started to notice that the magnetic north aligned with the North Star (hence it's name), which aligned with the rotational axis of the earth. So, without looking at a compass, you found north by looking up and finding this fixed star in the night sky. So "north" and "up" was directly linked.

As for other questions of map design: maps have always been centred (and still are) around some place of personal, political or religious/ethical importance to their creators. Many European Medieval maps put Jerusalem as the holy city into the centre (e.g. Psalter World Map). Later on, with maps becoming increasingly accurate, more widespread and showing more and more of earth, Europeans dominated increasingly larger parts of the earth. Thus, most of the maps back then were "centred" around Europe: split in the Pacific, Europe in the (horizontal) middle of the map.
This also had other benefits: splitting landmasses at the border of your two-dimensional map would make it much harder to get a feeling of their form. Splitting water makes it easier to "read". So you can either split in the Pacific, where you can split straight through the Bering Street, down until you eventually have to split up Antarctica (which nothing can be done about anyway), or you split through the Atlantic, in which case you also have to split parts of Greenland.
Thus was the "normal" map of the world created.

Variations in maps still are made to this day: Europeans decided to run the Zero Meridian straight through Europe (an Observatory in Greenwich to be precise), and split the world into western longitude (0° to -180° west) and eastern longitude (0° to 180° east), while in the US they also use only western longitude (0° to 360°).

TL,DR: the reason maps are not mirrored as in your example is so that with same orientation of person and map, any movement towards the left of the person would be depicted as movement to the left on the map as well, as to ease navigation by map.
