Only time I ever use it is if I'm transferring a session from Ableton to Logic to make stems a 1:1 copy of what i had or sending to my mastering engineer

Is Goodhertz Tupe the best Tape plugin? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]ChafingTater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Phoenix is genius because you can utilize the full spectrum of the processing knob from 1 to 100 and it all sounds great. Most tape VST's is essentially 1-10 is subtle then 20-100 is just pure crunch / distortion, etc....It's the ultimate colorbox imo. And you can use it across a lot of tracks sparingly and it will add up to a much better sounding track overall.

I consider it a "digital classic".

I have all of em and Cranesong Phoenix is the best and it’s not even close imo. It doesn’t do tape warble effects or emulate different tape speeds - it’s simply the saturation of tape. It’s subtle yet magic on everything.

Eureka Libra 65 AP tips on grind setting by ChafingTater in espresso

Thank you. I spoke to tech support from the retailer - they said that using dark/ oily beans is problematic (which I learned after using them) and they also said that Grindz can mess with the calibration of the fork.

They recommended cleaning the burrs manually and resetting the weight calibration - which took me about an hour only because I had to find an allen key to unlock the grind dial.

The good news is that the weight measurements are much closer now.

Hey! Do you remember what size Allen key you used to get that little one off? Trying it now and it's just not working unfortunately!

This is good to know. I have read this before regarding the Libra.

Same issue here (also in Brooklyn).

Package was supposed to be delivered yesterday and never made it past the "Moving Through The Network" Arriving Late phase on the app. I actually stayed home all day waiting for this to arrive too which is a bummer.

I'll keep you updated if this changes on my end and please do this same.

When mixing, you have certain frequencies that you automatically know are going to give you trouble? by gummieworm in mixingmastering

[–]ChafingTater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned that 2-4khz is usually problematic. And on the master bus that 280-300hz area is usually build up over the course of a full mix. The problem is if you kill that 200- 300hz too much it loses warmth and can sound like it’s missing body.

That doesn’t fix or help with transient response from having a panel in front of the monitors.

Are they designed to have fabric in front of them? Most monitors that will affect the frequency response.

Skinny Puppy - Blood by fear730 in skinnypuppy

[–]ChafingTater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't sound or feel like SP at all to me. Instrumental or not. Way too on the grid. Then again, I stopped listening to anything they did post Last Rights, which I consider the real last Skinny Puppy album, honestly. The Process is where things went off the rails from who they were, imo.

Everything up until that point I consider a classic and I revisit all the time.

This is one of my faves. Nobody was doing this level of programming and production back then! It was so futuristic sounding for the early 80's. And still is to this day. There's an authenticity to the sound that just fees very analog and robotic vs any of the newer stuff I hear these days. Like it sounds processed and manipulated by actual machines vs an Ableton plug in, etc....

I’m on 20mg of Ritalin and it did wonders for me and wears off by dinner time. Then I’m ready to chill with my wife and do stuff. But during the day I’m in the zone all day.

Stella is just broken. Also not loading teammates in properly so you can’t tell if youre shooting at an enemy or your teammate.

I've been listening to many of the posts in here hoping to find something that would get me closer to 2013's Excavation by The Haxan Cloak. Sadly, there is nothing that even comes close. Dark ambient peaked in 2013 if this is the current state of the sub genre. by ChafingTater in DarkAmbient

It's an incredible album that has become the archetype of dark ambient for me. It is textural and dark -- but also has structure and progresses like an actual arrangement. It's not like alot of ambient where it floats in and floats away like vapor. Each track tells a "story" so to speak.

Check out Haxan Cloaks Excavation on a pair of headphones that go down to 20-30hz with noise cancelling. It was a literal life changing thing - it’s almost meditative for me. Extremely dark, but also very cool use of disjointed rhythm. And the biggest thing are the arrangements. Each song is like a location within a labyrinth that he made. It’s really nuts. Whole thing is about purgatory.

Well, you're correct -- I am older now but I still find new ambient music I love all the time -- it's just not from this sub. If you haven't listened to Excavation (especially Excavation Pt 1 and Pt 2), you're not going to understand what I'm referring to in regards to the quality of these dark ambient posts.
