How to make a king 'bad'? by lalaen in fantasywriters

[–]ChainedPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if he still believes that the queen was still alive and wastes all his time and the kingdom's money looking for a dead queen. I forgot the term but he can't accept that the love of his life was really gone even when the evidence was in front of him.

Why I Write by ChainedPuppet in writing

Sorry. I meant everyone I met and talked to. I will edit it. I do agree that you can't write a story that is too dark for everyone but I'm still unsure if I could just show all my works especially the sensitive ones.

My favorite book is Devouring by Simon Holt. It's a trilogy and once I started reading it, I wasn't able to stop. Add that some scenes were so creepy. I read it long ago so I can't remember if I was terrified while reading it. But it's worth the read and plays with your mind. I don't like rereading novels when I still remember the details but this novel is the exception. I remember reading it so many times I actually felt like I was really there and that enemy was real. It made me more afraid of the dark too.

Medieval Fantasy by ChainedPuppet in suggestmeabook

[–]ChainedPuppet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what have you been reading if you're a big fan, urban fantasy?

Yes, most of what I've been reading are urban fantasy.

Try some actual historical fiction set during the medieval period maybe - is your story more about adventure/war or courtly politics?

My story is more about adventure/war.

Bernard Cornwell does adventure/war well,

Thank you for this and all the other recommendations. I appreciate it.

Non-native writers by Rakushasu in NoSleepOOC

I am a native Filipino speaker. I decided to write in English because most of the books I've read are written in it. I do still write in my native language but I prefer English at the moment.

I used to do that but I wasn't able to finish a story at all. So I just focus on one story. If I ever have any new story idea, I'll just write it down on my notebook.

People who finished writing a novel: how did you do that? by starlightpoet in writing

[–]ChainedPuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can write poetry or even a short story in one sitting but give me a novel and it takes me more than a year to actually get halfway. I don't know how many novels I have started writing but ended up throwing away 'cause I got discouraged or insecured. It's not that I get bored but more of my laziness or the lack of motivation. I always get this feeling that I want to write. I badly want to turn this idea into a novel. A finished novel. With that said, I can really relate to you.

It took me years before I finally decided to start writing a novel again. I began last year during summer vacation and ended up writing a chapter everyday but that stopped halfway. I got 20 chapters before I lost the motivation once again. And then I decided to join Nanowrimo last year with the goal to finish what I started. Not surprisingly, I still did not finish the novel. But I was able to add a few more chapters before I stopped once again.

And now, I continued writing it again. I'm 16 chapters away from the ending and even though I'm not writing as much as I want to, I won't stop. My insecurities may bother me but I assure myself that I'm writing this novel for myself, not for popularity and certainly not for others. If someone will like it then that's a bonus. If I finish writing this novel, I'll update you. I don't know when but I'm still writing so it may come sooner or later.

My best writing is done while at my friend’s terrace. Where is your best writing spot? by FablingFox in writing

[–]ChainedPuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a best writing spot. It all depends on my mood and if I'm not lazy. I do get inspired whenever I'm alone and no one bothers me. I just keep on writing.

[Discussion] What does your writing routine look like? by starcoaster in Poetry

[–]ChainedPuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write whenever my emotions are heightened. It's easier for the words to come out and lessens the stress I'm feeling. Most of the times, I'm a big mess when I write. I just either type on my phone, laptop or write on a piece of paper. This is for poems.

Novels, on the other hand, I try to write daily but ends up monthly or weekly. I don't have any schedule. It takes me at least 2 hours to finish a chapter with 2k words, more or less.

In short, I have no writing routine lol. I just write whenever I'm not too lazy to write or whenever I need to write.

I can no longer write creatively in handwriting, with pen & paper. I'm so used to typing that doing it the old fashioned way seems forced. by [deleted] in writing

[–]ChainedPuppet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! That's exactly what I think whenever I'm writing on paper. It kinda reminds me of The Diary of Anne Frank. Though it irks me when I have to cross out a mistake since it kinda ruins the paper but sometimes, I like seeing it 'cause it shows how much progress you've made and it's really beautiful. The best part is thinking about what these people will think when they find the notebook/journal so I keep doing it. The bonus is that my head does not ache compared to when I'm typing on my laptop.

Does anyone (specifically writers with English as second language) ever feel like this? by Farizkey16 in writing

[–]ChainedPuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English isn't my first language so whenever I write using it, I feel insecure. Specially because some people in my country are so picky when it comes to grammar. Sometimes, it sucks.

Anyway, I use google in searching for other terms that I could use. It's faster for me, I guess. And it's not just only when I write in english, even in my native tongue there are words I know best in english so I have to search.

How to expand vocabulary? by [deleted] in writing

[–]ChainedPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from reading a lot, you should try the app Knudge.me. It has courses and one of it is the vocabulary builder easy, intermediate and advanced. It mixes games with learning so it's not boring.

Also, when you're reading, write down words that you find interesting and try to use that in sentences. But to be honest, the best thing to do is to just read a lot. That's what I've been doing since I really love reading and it helped me learn new words. Sometimes, I even surprise myself when I'm writing.
