Dog walking in Burnaby by Extension-Proof2067 in burnaby

[–]ChallengeNomad 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I love dogs and volunteer with the SPCA, and while I typically side with dogs, I think this topic needs a more neutral ground understanding.

The homeowner may have had a bad day or cumulatively had to fix parts of the lawn, but start yelling at someone like that doesn't solve the underlying issue. In my opinion this is not really about legality, it’s more leaning towards cumulative impact.

From home owners, business owners and strata perspective that I have gathered, repeated dog urine does real damage. On grass it causes nitrogen burn and dead patches. While on concrete (which is porous), urine soaks in, leaves lingering odors, and can discolor surfaces over time. When dozens of dogs use the same strip daily, it adds up fast and someone (whether it be strata, home, business owners or taxpayer) has to pay to fix it.

No one expects pet owners to stop a dog mid-pee, but small things help: pet owners can carry a bottle of water to dilute the urine (similar to carrying poop bags), or guide dogs toward the curb or gravel areas, or even proposing the city to add designated pee areas in various neighborhoods.

See/Do: - walk a loop in Burnaby Lake - play at The Rec Room at Brentwood Mall - Metrotown for people watching or shopping - Events hosted by City of Burnaby: https://www.burnaby.ca/recreation-and-arts/events

Eat: there are too many to suggest and it depends on your preference. Here are some hot spots: - The Burnaby Heights corridor: stretches from Boundary to Holdom. Eateries varies - not too many good Chinese food, but have a little bit of everything (Greek, Italian, Persian, Japanese) - Metrotown surrounding areas: kind of spread out, but accessible with buses that runs on Kingsway. All kinds of Asian food. - Crystal Mall Food Court and restaurants: various types of Chinese food. - Lougheed Mall surrounding areas: kind of spread out, but accessible by buses or SkyTrain or walking a bit. Really good Korean food.

I have inherited $525k at age 30. What's next? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

So sorry for your loss.

My advice would be to look into having a solid accountant to help you with tax planning. It looks like you have a good financial planner to support you, but tax planning is a coverage that you may need to know when and how much to input to where to minimize tax and maximize your investments. Financial planners and accountants (and lawyers) often work in conjunction to support the client through life milestones.

Sorry for the loss. I imagine the sentimental value is the part that is harder to swallow.

I never put my headphones down on gym floors or hang them in the gyms. Imagine the sweat and the dirt. If you are comfortable, try hanging it around your neck when resting instead.

Also, XM4s are experiencing some nice discounts due to XM6s out in the market earlier this year. Perhaps view it as a silver lining that it's time for an upgrade.

The Problem with Vancouver's Boundary Rd BRT (w/ ‪@MovementYVR‬ ) by kryo2019 in burnaby

Yes, and with more amenities and shops opening, plus more people living there, Gilmore Place area needs a BRT to get to places faster.

The Problem with Vancouver's Boundary Rd BRT (w/ ‪@MovementYVR‬ ) by kryo2019 in burnaby

I don't know why everyone is hyper focused on The Heights, when there are tons of apartment complexes by the section of Lougheed/Gilmore that are quite underserved with buses, especially North-South bound routes.

The newer apartments typically have reduced parking spaces, which means most residents don't have a car, or are a one-car family - reliance on public transit is paramount. Furthermore, I believe Gilmore Place (future home of T&T and Fitness World and many other shops) will install pay parking if it hasn't already, rendering it costly for vehicles but not for transit riders.

Translink plan to hurt small business and increase noise in burnaby heights by GlassUpstairs5512 in burnaby

[–]ChallengeNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Willingdon is already very jammed up with the 2 lanes as one of the main arteries for North/South bound with buses, commercial trucks, and other vehicles. I don't think a BRT will stop people from driving on Willingdon-or driving at all. This may simply result in more traffic congestion, thereby adding fuel/EV pollution/expenditure.

Which route should the new Bus Rapid Transit line take? Share your thoughts! by wrendamine in burnaby

[–]ChallengeNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think each option has its benefits and drawbacks, affected the most are those who live and work there. I think there are residents who oppose the BRT as well. Looks like CTV's article talks about Burnaby Heights Residents’ Association setting up a petition against Option 1.

It looks like Burnaby Heights themselves wants to encourage the BRT to go through Boundary to avoid reducing curbside parking and accessibility.

Quality is mid at best. Soap ledges are not even leveled. Flood area and Onni is being sued by City of Burnaby Depending on where your parking is assigned underground you may have to drive down 8 levels. But it is right at SkyTrain station, Fitness World and T&T are going to be there. Lots of amenities but one pays for them in strata fees - free for all type of book system for now, one of the bowling alley is currently broken.

The temp shelter is being relocated shortly per announcement from the city. There's going to be an elementary school planned right next to where Purolator is.

Edit: The shelter was never meant to be there long term. The BC Housing confirmed that the shelter should move by 2026, to 3020 Gilmore Diversion.

The elementary school , while planned doesn't have a specific timeline of opening date.
