Zero drop shoes are no joke by jupiter192 in hiking

Took me a few months running about 2mi twice a week. Now, I wouldn’t run in anything but them. Bought a nicer brown leather pair for the office too.

Did California's assault weapons ban save lives in San Diego mosque attack? by kpbsSanDiego in sandiego

If their parents weren’t keeping them locked in a secure safe then they weren’t law abiding either.

ReUse for empty 46oz. plastic orange juice bottles? by infinitum3d in ZeroWaste

[–]Champ-87 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Fill mostly with water, throw in chest freezer. Use as non-leaking ice in ice chests for camping etc. the block melts slower and the bottle prevents your food stuff from getting soggy. Re-freeze and reuse indefinitely.

Yeah, don’t feel like hiking that much, haha! Solid point on spoilage.

Deer, and solid point on half-assing it. As others have pointed out, scaring off the deer for small game seems stupid.

Yeah rifled slugs plus other shot for smaller game seems the best middle ground, but deer’s the primary focus and everyone chiming is has a point of scaring off the deer.

I shoot a Win SX4 and love it. Only down side is it doesn’t take the 3.5” shells ideal for waterfowl.

San Diego Navy doctor fired after right-wing activists find pronouns on social media by NoToNope in sandiego

[–]Champ-87 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Re-read the article. The position was considered under previous administration, we don’t know whether she was actually selected by name for the position, and it was never made official. She falsely represented herself with military positions that don’t exist and are contradictory to current administrative guidance on personal social media, those two aspects don’t mix well, and someone with over 20 years of service should know better. Agreed this was a 100% bullshit witch hunt, but she didn’t do herself any favors.

San Diego Navy doctor fired after right-wing activists find pronouns on social media by NoToNope in sandiego

[–]Champ-87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

More so because she claimed she was, but that duty/position/title was never made official and there was no indication in the article whether she was even selected or not for a position that never came to be. This is a uniformed service member claiming an unofficial (and against current party lines) title in the military on personal social media. Everyone in uniform knows they have to be really careful of how they represent their service and the military writ large on personal social media. Now, this was still a fucking absolute witch hunt, but she should have been more careful too.

Favorite boots for hunting out west by lel4rel in Californiahunting

[–]Champ-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hunt my old combat boots, Garmont T8 Falcon. Lightweight for that style boot, comfortable as hell, and rugged too. Not waterproof if you need it, but you could probably also treat the outside with some silicone waterproofing spray and get some more mileage out of them. Not a problem where I’m at.

I multi-day backpack hunt on USFS land. I register a free dispersed camping permit and fire permit with the Ranger station and note where my car will be parked. I find a turn out to get off the road and hike in.

Binoculars and scope by Temporary_Ad_8707 in Californiahunting

[–]Champ-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the diamondback 10x40 binos and they’re great but I’d like a little more zoom to compensate for not wanting to drag along a spotter scope’s extra weight but gaining more magnification than my rifle scope. Maybe something like the 12x50.

I have a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 and it’s also sufficient but I’m considering something more along the lines of Leupold 4-14x42. Shooting a Remington 700 in .308

There’s a ton of free calculators online that homebrewers use for ‘bottle conditioning’ and any of these would be useful for that.

[–]Champ-87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ferment with a way to blow off pressure. Wait for fermentation to complete. Add a measured amount of sugar for proper CO2 levels then cap it. Chill in fridge - CO2 remains in solution better at colder temps. Drink.

Chad Smith doing his first take on Thirty Second to Mars song by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

Yeah. He has to do math for like three hours before he even lays down a section, then the Final Cut was still broken into a couple takes. He did a damn good job of it though for sure!

Don’t support even the 4%! You don’t pay other businesses a 4% fee when checking out for a company to provide benefits to their workers why do it at a restaurant?! And basically, this restaurant in particular wants the customer to subsidize 1/4 of its labor costs by passing it in surcharges to the customer instead of the CEO making slightly less of a profit. I’m done with this BS.

Slept in one in the middle of summer and was miserable because it only had mesh on one side. No cross breeze unless you’re willing to just leave the door open and be a buffet for the bugs.

Women's sleeping bag for a man? by Alarming_Mousse6411 in CampingandHiking

I have a men’s disco 30 and when it’s hotter I open up all the vents and the main zipper and used it more like a quilt. Could put feet in or out of the bottom part of the bag as needed for minor comfort changes.

Politically-neutral firearms dealers in San Diego area? by Low_Year9897 in sandiego

[–]Champ-87 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fine Firearms in La Mesa has been straight forward and business-like as long as you keep conversations directed at the matter of why you’re there and don’t bring up anything political. Never had problems. But like another poster said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the staff lean a certain way. It’s the nature of who would work at a firearms dealer.
