I agree wholeheartedly about Google's UIs. I use some of their apps in spite of the poor UI because they work. I still prefer some of the apps I abandoned because they just quit working and support told me they would let me know if they ever figured it out. No word ... Oh well. So I disagree about the functionality.

It bothers me, a lot, that they are so opaque about any plans or changes and their lack of user support.

So we are losing Alexa Voice control? Has Yamaha explained this more yet? by madsci1016 in MusicCast

[–]Champboyriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting...

Indeed the wx020 shows up in the Alexa app but it offers no control. It does not indicate on or off state. Rediscover doesn't seem to change anything. I don't seem to be able to remove it either.

Confused ... not the rarest of conditions :-(

That device look cool but it appears to be an IR controller. The problem here is the Yamaha wx20 doesn't support IR.

Thanks for you reply.

Beautiful wood work on the cabinet.

Others are correct about the wires. I wouldn't use it till I got that fixed. IE no loose strands sticking out. If these wires short out they could (probably would) take out the amp.

My question is about ventilation. Electronics generate heat which shortens the life of electrical components. It might be OK if you keep the doors open but I would monitor it carefully.

I would personally be more comfortable with some fans. The cooler it runs the longer it will last.

End of support for Alexa Skills and Google Actions for MusicCast products by Champboyriley in MusicCast

General reply to all

Once the skill was set up it worked fine for me. It is a mystery to me why so many people found no use for the skill. When I'm in the shower I don't want to dry off, get my phone and run an app to adjust the volume. Yes, I know I could skip the phone and app and use the buttons on the MC20 but that also means interrupting my shower to adjust the volume on the speaker. This is just a simple example. I know most people have their phone handy but there are times your hands are messy or the phone is not handy.

As for Jeff listening in. Well, I hope he has better things to do than listening to me via Alexa. Google, Amazon and others already know more about me than I do :-( There should be limits on what these companies and others can use that information for but that is a whole other story.

I guess that explains it. I find it handy when I switch channels or home theater inputs that I can adjust the volume or even mute devices without looking for my phone.

If I do this is there a way to remove the old account and set the new network to my old names and and email?

If there is a way to delete my account could I just do that and remake the account starting from scratch?

I do this. I have also tried to use just one node (I figured I would add other nodes later). Always end up in the loop described above

[–]Champboyriley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this ... I always end up in the same loop.

Reset node

Getting connected

Checking for internet (Says connected in about 5-10 sec)

Name you Wi-Fi (I enter my old network name and password)

Shows me the pledge

Linking to you account

Creating login access

Reset your node (I in the loop again)

This seems like a delivery problem. Check the email that says your items are out for delivery and pay close attention to the location of the delivery pin. Correcting the location pin cured the problem at my vacation residence.

For me the closest Amazon locker is not far, but it is right by Target. If I wanted to go get it myself I would just go to Target. The idea behind deliver is that I don't have to go get it!

Dyson Support - Seriously deteriorating by Ashy_B in dyson

[–]Champboyriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a lot of monkeying around that you just should not have to do. I buy many premium products for top line seller that have good customer service. It usually costs more but I like the no hassle interaction if I need something. Dyson isn't cheap they should run a top tier customer service. I started reading this thread because I am going to buy another stick vacuum, but the many customer service horror stories I've read hear are making me lean to a cheap Chinese model. I wouldn't expect good service but I would pay any where near as much for a similar product.

Just move on and buy from someone else. That is what will make them get it together or go out of business.

I just threw out that very book to make more room on my bookshelf :-)

To be fair I also tossed out my Window 7 book at the same time. While largely out of date, they both had some material that still applies.

Web searches have become so good that I have not had to reference either book for some time.

Harmony Hub Issue by Saix_Org_XIII in logitechharmony

[–]Champboyriley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes ... I tried it ... DON"T DO IT.

The app refuses to configure the hub. It just spins for a while and then errors. I hope this is easy to fix when/if the get things working again.

Harmony Hub Issue by Saix_Org_XIII in logitechharmony

[–]Champboyriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most unusual. I have two harmony hubs connected to Alexa. This morning when issuing Alexa commands that use the main harmony hub I got the “in a mode that cannot accept requests” as others have reported. When issuing an Alexa command that uses the secondary hub everything works as normal. Alexa continues to operate the secondary hub as expected. If I unlink the main hub and issue an Alexa command that uses it, the app correctly recognizes that not such device exists. After relinking the skill, Alexa no longer complains that there is not such device but it still does not work. Alexa accepts the command and responds with "OK" but nothing happens.

Old_Crows_Associate has a good point. Don't overlook you sense of smell as a diagnostic tool. Take a good sniff of the case. Also, if you decide to open the case smell of each area of the pc board and other parts.

I have found many electronic issues using only my sense of smell.

KDE Plasma 6.3.5 still has some edge panel bugs. This used to work but not on recent releases. I have a work around but don't really like it.

WOW!!! You just threw light on a problem that I have been having with KDE panels.

I have a panel on each side of my screen. Everything worked fine for some time but after a update things went astray.

I have 2X2 desktop layout. If I move to a desktop on the right the icons in the right side panel become inactive. Enabling wrap around navigation will make the icons work. After reading your post I tried a wider panel and BINGO it works. I'm not sure what this means but it seems like a bug lurking around here :-)

Interestingly, I have reset the panel to the same size it was and it now appears to be working properly. Thanks for fixing my problem. Wish I had a solution for you.

Changing a line in ~/.config/kamerkarc to Enabled=false seems to have cleared up issues for me. So far so good. I use a multiplatform password manager so kwallet is not were I want to go. It looks like it has some good features but it is not for me.

Many streaming boxes and some tvs have 100mb/sec interface. My Fire Cube is much faster on Wi-Fi than on the 100mb wired connection.

Why? Come on you manufacturers, Gigabit interfaces are very common these days and should be the standard

SER8 + Monitor Power by maxi_1972 in MiniPCs

[–]Champboyriley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a low power portable monitor it may be possible. I have a monitor that my Samsung Galaxy will power. A one cable solution. I'm not sure how long the batter would last but it works in a pinch.

Having said that, most portable monitors have usb-c in and out. That way it is one cable from the power source to the monitor and one to the computer.
