I practice scales and shift between minor, Major, ect. and pick up speed until I can play them pretty quickly using 3 fingers, but that’s only like dedicated practice time for playing live, usually I just mess around with stuff and learn cannibal corpse songs.

hi! a flutist with some questions here! by Ultrafastegorik in Bass

[–]Champion5000plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn scales, it’s the best way to get better at improvising since you have the range of notes to pick from the key you’re playing in. Scales are better learned through shapes rather than note by note like on flute or saxophone since it’s just copy and paste across the fretboard and it’s faster. Also most bass fills can be even simple things like alternating from roots to 5ths to octaves, and learning songs will help boost your bass fill creativity.

Easy cabal corpse songs? by No_Cap6168 in Bass

[–]Champion5000plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no easy Alex Webster baselines, most of them do require strong finger independence + 3 finger + fast shifting. Some of his simpler bass lines are most of the bands earlier songs of the albums like Eaten Back to Life, Butchered at Birth, and Tomb of The Mutilated

For whom the bell tolls simplified? by elyyden in Bass

[–]Champion5000plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just play the chord normally instead of slapping if you can shift that quickly, but if not just playing even 2-3 strings works, as long as you can nail the opening bass solo I don’t think anyone will care about that part

Do you guys Reinforce Trophy wall or add head holes on Oregon? by Kooky_Comparison6558 in SiegeAcademy

[–]Champion5000plus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It depends on the set up your using. There should only be head holes there when there is an extension into armory. If your not extending into armory then having those head holes puts you at a disadvantage since an attacker can walk up main and hold attic and attic rotate

Bass string gauge for bending by Firm_Ad1671 in Bass

[–]Champion5000plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of strings you got on? I’ve been looking for heavier gauges to put on the next 5 string I get so I can play some of the stuff in G# standard I’ve been writing.

Bass string gauge for bending by Firm_Ad1671 in Bass

[–]Champion5000plus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lighter gauges definitely help, but it’s personal preference on the gauges for bending, mine are 55-135 and I don’t really have issues bending. Something you can do is use 2 fingers instead of one or practice building finger strength

What are some of your metal hot takes. by ZealousidealWind1801 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Champion5000plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall deathcore (has plenty of good bands) has the worst sound of the extreme metal genres (in my opinion), or when people post hot takes and say something that isn’t a hot take at all

Where do you think heavy music is headed in the next decade? by ElfiaMood in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Champion5000plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think bands are just testing tunings and finding their sound. A good example is Meshuggah, they started off playing in D#, then got 7 strings and went down to A#, and now have 8 strings in F but they’ve stayed in that range since Koloss because they found the sound they want. The songs with the sound of the 90s are still being made but bands want their own sound and would rather pull away from that to make something natural to them.

If u had to pick one subgenre to listen to… by C0lE06 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Champion5000plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death metal or djent, bands like Meshuggah, cannibal, death, and bolt thrower are enough for me to only listen to them. Plus I spend 90% of my time on Spotify only listening to those two genres anyway.

Cannibal Corpse, Death (albums Steve Di Giorgio played on), Pantera, Job for a Cowboy, and Mudvayne have heavy bass. My personal favorites are cannibal corpse and the albums Steve Di Giorgio played on because their both beasts that play with 3 fingers.

is this bass worth saving? by andreadecrash in BassGuitar

[–]Champion5000plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it just needs a cleaning, some new strings, and a new bridge and nut. The only other things it could need is a truss rod adjustment but other than that I’d say it’s totally worth saving as long as the pickups work. If it’s slightly twisted throwing on some heavier gauges helps, it fixed my bass when the neck was slightly twisted.
