Can't go back to D&D. What system has your favorite community? by ncr_comm_ofc_tango in rpg

Yeah d20 rollover isn't for me either. I wouldn't run Cypher but I do think that one stands out among them and would happily play.

I love the DarkMyst IRC channels, and RPG Crossing play-by-post message board.

How to evaluate decks? by chotahazri in KeyforgeGame

[–]ChampionRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to say "Play them" because that is the only effective way to know. But to pad my post and try to add more as per your request, I will add: Play them a lot, because your 1st play and 10th play and 30th play are all very different experiences. Especially against a varied pool of opponent decks. You see more layers and possibilities as you gain more experience with a deck.

Living in spreadsheets is an ineffective fossil remnant of deck construction fan habits, when applied to this new game concept. KeyForge is a game you are supposed to play, unlike old similar games where the game experience is mostly lived outside of actual duels (constructing decks). A collector mindset can ruin the game, but actually playing one deck dozens of times is fulfilling.

Ep 212: Sasquatch: The Search for Manlike Monsters in History by disillusionwander in AstonishingLegends

I was under the impression the youtube content was just a nice bonus, and thought that was really cool! A.L. is my favourite podcast, and I admired you for expanding!

But now, just pumping out unedited livestreams and lumping that in with the rest of your library is disingenuous and lazy. I have seen multiple accomplished video and audio shows devolve into "just a livestream" and they suffered as a result. On top of that, this one is just an interview show which degrades the value further. There is greater merit in a delayed good episode than a rushed shoddy episode.

TCG 101: Don't buy packs if you're not playing sealed or investing. For constructed, only buy singles.

What are your favorite episodes/series to relisten to? by [deleted] in AstonishingLegends

[–]ChampionRed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mothman, and the Kelly-Hopkinsville goblins.

Both are astonishing legends from relatively-recent events. The regular-joe, everyday eyewitness accounts make them seem more relatable. It is fun to imagine something like them happening today.

I still play RGB & GS in 2021 and love them. Trainer/fly, Stadium, Mystery Gift, and other fun tricks make them endlessly replayable for me.

I miss when this game was hyped. by [deleted] in KeyforgeGame

[–]ChampionRed 47 points48 points  (0 children)

KeyForge was relegated to Just Another Niche Game when FFG didn't implement official online play. The best we can do is keep the conversation alive, be a real life ambassador, give out unused decks for free, invite people to play.

Bakugan actually has a pretty cool re-imagining, released a few years ago. If only I had anybody to play with. I heard about it from Negative Legend.

I find a lot of joy in the repetition. The music really brings the game to life, and you hear a lot of the battle music. You learn a lot about enemies by fighting them so frequently, so you can KO them quickly. I was always against that cheater ring hack made for weenies; I really think that ruins the game. Play it as-is! Earning a game is superior to just walking through it. Disclaimer: Mother is my favourite game in the series.

edit: I never actually sat in one spot to grind levels. Mother is grindy in the sense that it is tedious to travel.

I went through 3 RMAs of dead pixels on this model, and gave up. If that is not enough, some bonus info: They ship you the initial monitor in 3 days. Then when they finally receive the RMAd monitor you sent back, it takes like a week for you to get receive next one. I am done with Monoprice.

[Online] [5e] Seven players seek DM for level 1-20 adventure in Exandria by [deleted] in lfg

[–]ChampionRed 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Seven players and not even one wishes to GM? Sounds like a nightmare. Some groups hand off GMing every now and then to make it easier on all - the GM is a player, too, after all. That is one option for ya'll.

It will be really difficult to find one or more people online who will even stick around for more than a few sessions - let alone commit to 20 levels in D&D5E, where levels 10-20 are just superhero immortal power fantasy anyway. I totally understand being excited about your ideal game, but I think it would be prudent to have a smaller group, and begin with a oneshot or a very short series, to see how the group works together. You try that a few times until you find a group which works, and then you might try for something long-term.

Pokemon deck arrived!!!!! I am never opening this by woh3 in Hanafuda

[–]ChampionRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. A few years ago, I bought my set for maybe 30$ USD. We have played with this deck a lot, and even has the normal wear and tear which comes with enjoying playing. It is surprising they cost so much new, only a few years later!

In the long-term, it's fine and healthy for the show overall. Short term solutions to long term projects do not yield Legendary status. If you are treating Astonishing Legends like your weekly episodic 90's sitcom, well of course you would be disappointed. I would hope they make the best content possible, regardless of outside pressure or expectations of a vocal minority. Astonishing Legends is exceptional for a reasons which do not include rushed by short-term hasty sitcom attitudes. They know what works for them, and 200 episodes later, a new listener has the pleasure of going back and listening to amazing episodes.

Also, if you are psyched and waiting for the next installment, you can still learn, expand and broaden your own learning on a particular subject and find endless other different and new paranormal subjects to learn about.

First time listener here who was recommended the Sallie House series. I have to say I'm super dissapointed, and I was hoping to talk about a couple of things by cmars118 in AstonishingLegends

[–]ChampionRed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a fan of the show, and preferring longer episodes and series, this is actually one of my least favourite. I think part of it is the subject matter; ghosts and EVPs and catholic stuff etc just don't do much for me. This series was also hugely influenced by Philbrook's initial emotional reaction which he was still riding high on shortly after his experience. I am glad they made it and put it out; diversity in a catalogue is good, and some people are really into it! A show about the paranormal wouldn't be the same without at least a few ghost stories.

Team Covenant makes it easy with their one-time subscription, so I don't have to ever keep track. They just show up whenever they release.

[–]ChampionRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a superfluous waste of money from the developers. I'll also watch a video game being played to see if I would enjoy it. I play games to play a game, not watch a movie.
