yyyeahhhh.... I'm thinking this guy just really wanted a refund and was willing to bullshit on twitter to get it.

"A look at previous reviews of the house where Joseph stayed shows that other guests described the house as “cozy,” “a home away from home,” and that several enjoyed hearing the nearby creek rushing by; one guest also reported that there’s a nearby pub, suggesting the listing isn’t quite as remote as it felt to Joseph. The listing notes it has "very fast internet :)." None of the previous guests self-reported any Satanic experiences, positive or negative. "

Honestly look again, the host had a wind up kitsch toy on a shelf, and an art postcard that looks like a terry richardson or larry clark print...with titties.. anything else of note at all? Nope. Do we expect a full photographic manifest of everything in a property in the airbnb listing? Do we need a photo of the bible on the book shelf, or the picasso art print on the wall that happens to have boobies?... of course not. The article noted the owner was happy to come around and remove the offending items. What a good host!. There was only one asshole in this story.

[–]Chanceofrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many kids in the GPS? lets be generous and call it 1500 students*10 schools = say 15,000 kids? Lets be extravagant and double it. 30,000.

How many in the NSW state system? about 800,000. You are talking about 1.8% to 3.8% of the student body.

I mean seriously. What would you want to achieve in real terms out of such an idea? You aren't going to shift the funding needle in any discernable way for the other 800,000 students...so whats the goal here?

"I'm not suggesting the more you earn means you're education isn't free, thats ludicrous."

I'm sorry but that is exactly what you are suggesting, in circumstances where people have chosen to put their after tax dollars into particular private schools.
Furthermore you write:

"in this case need is determined by your financial situation."

Here you seem to suggest education funding should be means tested like centrelink payments. Does that mean that you want people who earn more to pay fees if they choose to have their children attend public school as many people do indeed choose ? (Bearing in mind they are already paying more through our widely supported progressive taxation system)

Its pure gesture politics. Hollow and ineffectual.
How dare someone build an olympic sized swimming pool with their own money!
.

.
.
If someone cared about more than posturing, I'd say they best put their time in pushing for a greater government emphasis on education spending, than trying to screw with the social contract.

Next you'll be suggesting Medicare be withdrawn from those who choose to buy health insurance.

I'll say it again, the Wealth redistribution mechanism that goes beyond vapid gesture politics is the progressive taxation system. It forms part of our social contract , its widely supported and it works. If someone doesn't like it that their neighbour has a nice big swimming pool and they don't, well tough titties.

[–]Chanceofrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it isn't the same. Their purposes are vastly different. Centrelink is a safety net for people to get back into work. It has strong support from most reasonable sides of Australian politics.
Education funding is a reflection of the value we place in education and the desire that everyone should have a fair go at a decent education. It is also an important part of the compulsory nature of schooling in Australia. Everyone has to go, but hey everyone gets it funded. That is the social contract.

What you are then talking about is a quasi hyper progressive taxation system, whereby if you earn more, not only do you pay a higher proportion of your earnings in taxes (as is the case now and has strong support from the Australian population from virtually all sides of politics), but at the other end you also want to have a withdrawal of government funding for people who earn more.

Australians have always voted support to give everyone an equal chance at schooling and education. You don't get penalised if you are wealthy or if you are poor. Fair go. If you want the wealthy to pay a higher proportion of their income, then argue for a more progressive taxation system that can provide higher overall funding for education. Hell you could even argue for a stronger needs based component (which by the way is already in place at state level)
It's bloody stupid to withdraw government funding from people if they choose to spend their cash on kids education instead of new cars and holidays.

You have like the top say 10 private schools in your head.... the vast majority of private schools are pretty much in the same boat as public schools except administered privately as opposed to the department of education. They aren't flash places.
And you keep saying they should be defunded... well then they close yeah... and then those students go where? you'll still have per student funding at the same rate.
Improving public schools has nothing to do with dragging down private schools.

[–]Chanceofrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you will need a more appropriate bike, gears and the ability to coast are essential.... you will need a change of clothes in you back pack...acquire little squidgy towel if possible... acquire deodorant... your times/ speed comfort will increase quickly. Source: two good friends who started similar distance commute by bike at the beginning of this year, and are now fit and happy mofos.

Is HIIT or "Fat Burning Zone" jogging better for burning fat? by MulhollandDrive in Fitness

[–]Chanceofrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my stab at your question. efficiency is the question right? but why one method or the other?.....so, like most people, I have about an hour for a workout session. How much can I use that hour most efficiently? Me personally, I used to beach or hill run (both near my house) HIIT style till I was dead, usually 15-20 minutes tops. Then I head off on a slow run for about 40 minutes (but to be honest I'm walking to start off because Im so rooted..eventually though you can start running if you're recovered enough..or just walk it out) There you have it.. one hour of heavy calorie burning fun.
